  • Compressive sensing (CS) has to face with two challenges of computational complexity reconstruction and low coding efficiency. As a solution, this paper presents a novel spatially scalable Kronecker two layer compressive sensing framework which facilitates reconstruction up to three spatial resolutions as well as much improved CS coding performance. We propose a dual-resolution sensing matrix based on the quincunx sampling grid which is applied to the base layer. This sensing matrix can provide a fast-preview of low resolution image at encoder side which is utilized for predictive coding. The enhancement layer is encoded as the residual measurement between the acquired measurement and predicted measurement data. The low resolution reconstruction is obtained from the base layer only while the high resolution image is jointly reconstructed using both two layers. Experimental results validate that the proposed scheme outperforms both conventional single layer and previous multi-resolution schemes especially at high bitrate like 2.0 bpp by 5.75dB and 5.05dB PSNR gain on average, respectively.

  • The image-based 3D modeling is the technique of generating a 3D graphic model from images acquired using cameras. It is being researched as an alternative technique for the expensive 3D scanner. In this paper, we propose the image-based, 3D modeling system using calibrated stereo cameras. The proposed algorithm for rendering, 3D model consists of three steps, camera calibration, 3D reconstruction, and 3D registration step. In the camera calibration step, we estimate the camera matrix for the image aquisition camera. In the 3D reconstruction step, we calculate 3D coordinates using triangulation from corresponding points of the stereo image. In the 3D registration step, we estimate the transformation matrix that transforms individually reconstructed 3D coordinates to the reference coordinate to render the single 3D model. As shown the result, we generated relatively accurate 3D model.

  • Background Acellular dermal matrices (ADMs) have recently become widely used in breast reconstruction, but the correlation between the final expander volume and the surface area of the ADM is not well understood. In this study, the expansion of the surface area of ADM and the expander volume was studied retrospectively in cases of acellular dermis-assisted tissue expander breast reconstruction. Methods Twenty cases of immediate breast reconstruction using an ADM-assisted tissue expander from January 2015 to December 2015 were evaluated. In all 20 cases, CGCryoDerm was used as the matrix, with a thickness of 1-3 mm. No slit incisions were made. Finally, the proportional increase in the area of the fully expanded ADM was compared to that of the tissue expander volume. Results The proportional increase in the ADM surface area was calculated to be from 1.1 to 2.46, with a mean value of 1.7. Additionally, under the assumption that the expander had a spherical shape, the increase in its radius (the cube root of its volume) was assessed. The range of the proportional increase in the expander radius was 1.1 to 2.24, with a mean value of 1.66. The proportional increase in the radius of the expanded ADM surface area ranged from 1.04 to 1.34, with a mean ratio of 1.28. Conclusions The results of this study confirmed that the ADM expanded when the tissue expander was inflated. However, the ADM expanded to a lesser extent than the tissue expander, indicating that the muscle and other tissues expanded more than the ADM when the tissue expander was inflated.

  • In this paper, we consider three inverse eigenvalue problems for a special type of acyclic matrices. The acyclic matrices considered in this paper are described by a graph called a broom on n + m vertices, which is obtained by joining m pendant edges to one of the terminal vertices of a path on n vertices. The problems require the reconstruction of such a matrix from given partial eigen data. The eigen data for the first problem consists of the largest eigenvalue of each of the leading principal submatrices of the required matrix, while for the second problem it consists of an eigenvalue of each of its trailing principal submatrices. The third problem has an eigenvalue and a corresponding eigenvector of the required matrix as the eigen data. The method of solution involves the use of recurrence relations among the leading/trailing principal minors of ${\lambda}I-A$, where A is the required matrix. We derive the necessary and sufficient conditions for the solutions of these problems. The constructive nature of the proofs also provides the algorithms for computing the required entries of the matrix. We also provide some numerical examples to show the applicability of our results.

  • The filtration barrier of kidney consists of endothelial cell, glomerular capillary, glomerular basement membrane, mesangial matrix, and podocyte. In aged rats, the morphological changes were shown in various parts, including the glomerulus. These changes were thickening of basement membrane and mesangial matrix, crescent formation of glomerular capillary, deformity of foot processes, glomerular sclerosis and obsolescence. But these glomerular morphologies are partial images or few serial images analysis. In this study, we examined the morphological alteration of glomerulus in the young and aged rats by light microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and three dimensional reconstruction. We were found in aged rat glomerulus, expansion of urinary space and mesangial matrix, thickening and degrading of glomerular basement membrane, decreasing in podocyte foot processes, fragmentation of podocytic nucleus membrane. These observations indicate that may provide useful data for investigating the pathogenesis of age-related dysfunction of kidney.

  • Many researchers expect the compressive sensing and sparse recovery problem can overcome the limitation of conventional digital techniques. However, these new approaches require to solve the l1 norm optimization problems when it comes to signal reconstruction. In the signal reconstruction process, the transform computation by multiplication of a random matrix and a vector consumes considerable computing power. To address this issue, parallel processing is applied to the optimization problems. In particular, due to huge size of original signal, it is hard to store the random matrix directly in memory, which makes one need to design a procedural approach in handling the random matrix. This paper presents a new parallel algorithm to calculate random partial Haar wavelet transform based on Single Instruction Multiple Threads (SIMT) platform.

  • Background: A job-exposure matrix (JEM) is an important surrogate indicator to evaluate past exposure levels. Although a Korean asbestos JEM has been constructed previously, this JEM includes only a few industrial and occupational groups. This study aimed to reconstruct the JEM by integrating the latest organized data to improve its utility. Methods: We used recent Korean standard industry and occupation codes and extracted 36 articles from a systematic literature review to initiate the reconstruction of the previous Korean asbestos JEM. The resulting data consisted of 141 combinations of industrial and occupational groups. Data from the Netherlands's JEM were also reviewed and categorized into 70 industrial and 117 occupational groups by matching with the Korean data. We also utilized Germany's data, which consisted of 10 industrial and 14 occupational groups. Results: The reconstructed Korean asbestos JEM had 141 combinations of industries and occupations. The time periods are from the 1980s to the 2000s in 10-year intervals. Most of the data were distributed between the 1990s and the 2000s. Occupations with high exposure to asbestos included knitting and weaving machine operators, automobile mechanics or assemblers, ship mechanics or assemblers, mineral ore and stone products processing mechanics, and metal casting machine operators or mold makers. Conclusions: The reconstructed Korean asbestos JEM has expanded the type and duration of the occupational groups of the previous JEM and can serve as an important reference tool for evaluating asbestos exposure and designing compensation and prevention policies in Korea.

  • Electrical capacitance tomography (ECT) is a non-invasive imaging reconstruction technique that aims at visualization of cross sectional permittivity distribution of dielectric object based on the measured capacitance. There are lots of iterative image reconstruction methods to accelerate convergence rate and enhance quality of reconstructed image, Among them iterative Landweber method is one of the widely used reconstruction algorithm in En. In this paper, modified generalized Landweber method is proposed to accelerate convergence rate. In doing so, acceleration term is considered to the generalized Landweber method with shaping matrix and an optimal step length is determined analytically. Extensive computer simulations are provided to illustrate the reconstruction performance of the proposed algorithm.

  • Background Direct-to-implant (DTI) breast reconstruction after nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM) with the use of acellular dermal matrix (ADM) provides reliable outcomes; however, the use of ADM is associated with a higher risk of complications. We analyzed our experiences of post-NSM DTI without ADM and identified the predictive factors of adverse surgical outcomes. Methods Patients who underwent NSM and immediate DTI or two-stage tissue expander (TE) breast reconstruction from 2009 to 2020 were enrolled. Predictors of adverse endpoints were analyzed. Results There were 100 DTI and 29 TE reconstructions. The TE group had a higher rate of postmastectomy radiotherapy (31% vs. 11%; P=0.009), larger specimens (317.37±176.42 g vs. 272.08±126.33 g; P=0.047), larger implants (360.84±85.19 g vs. 298.83±81.13 g; P=0.004) and a higher implant/TE exposure ratio (10.3% vs. 1%; P=0.035). In DTI reconstruction, age over 50 years (odds ratio [OR], 5.43; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.50-19.74; P=0.010) and a larger mastectomy weight (OR, 1.65; 95% CI, 1.08-2.51; P=0.021) were associated with a higher risk of acute complications. Intraoperative radiotherapy for the nipple-areolar complex increased the risk of acute complications (OR, 4.05; 95% CI, 1.07-15.27; P=0.039) and the likelihood of revision surgery (OR, 5.57; 95% CI, 1.25-24.93; P=0.025). Conclusions Immediate DTI breast reconstruction following NSM is feasible in Asian patients with smaller breasts.

  • In this paper, we presents a new cone beam computerized tomography (CBCT) system for the reconstruction of 3 dimensional dynamic images. The system using cone beam has less the exposure of radioactivity than fan beam, relatively. In the system, the reconstruction 3-D image is reconstructed with the radiation angle of X-ray in the image processing unit and transmitted to the monitor. And in the image processing unit, the Three Pass Shear Matrices, a kind of Rotation-based method, is applied to reconstruct 3D image because it has less transcendental functions than the one-pass shear matrix to decrease a time of calculations for the reconstruction 3-D image in the processor. The new system is able to get 3~5 3-D images a second, reconstruct the 3-D dynamic images in real time. And we showed the Rotation-based method was good rather than existing reconstruction technique for 3D images, also found weakness and a solution for it.
