Book recommendations in libraries can be used as a tool to help users with vague needs browse and select books. Therefore, libraries spend a lot of time and effort to introduce various materials to their users and recommend suitable books. Meanwhile, various organizations other than libraries also publish recommended reading lists, and these lists reflect the intentions of the entity that selects the recommended books. The purpose of this study is finding out how the recommended book lists of libraries differ from the recommended reading lists of non-library organizations. To achieve this, the study limited the scope to 'teenagers', who are the main target audience for book recommendations in many organizations, and compared the recommended book lists of libraries and non-library organizations in terms of (1) the selection criteria for recommended books, (2) the characteristics of recommended books, and (3) the way of providing recommended book lists. Through this analysis, the study identified the characteristics and limitations of library recommended book lists and discussed areas for improvement.

Recommended book lists make 'a good book' known and help choose the books. Currently, the recommended book lists published by various institutions are primarily used as the selection tool for choosing children's and young adults' book in many libraries and schools. Considering this reality, I examined the present production condition of the recommended book lists and evaluated whether they were suitable as a selection tool. Afterwards, I suggested the development methods about how the recommended book lists will be developed for them to function as a selection tool.

The purpose of this study is to understand student's reading motivation by laying out self-selected reading program and running it at school libraries. The self-selected reading program based on self-determination theory ensures the autonomy of book selection. The self-selected reading program in this study provided a number of scope and recommended book lists in order to ensure the autonomy of book selection and developed integrated reading and writing. After finishing this program, the author measured 6 domains of reading motivation with participated students who completed this course. As a result, it turned out that autonomous motive domains excessively surpassed heteronomous motive domains. Such autonomy of book selection, one of the key features from self-selected reading programs, is expected to help making the best use of school library collections by recommended book lists and stimulating stable and sustainable reading habits driven by self-motivation.

The purpose of this study is to analyze high school students' understanding and use of the recommended books lists. The survey distributed to high school students in seven high schools located in Seoul, and 311 students responded. Using SPSS 24, the data was analyzed by frequency, binary logistic model, and one-way ANOVA. Results show the followings. First, the meaningful factors affecting students' use of recommended books lists are gender, grade levels, and the degree to which students think recommended books lists include the books that are suitable and interesting. Particularly, the degree to which students think recommended books lists include the suitable books for them is the strong factor affecting students' use of the recommended books lists. Second, male students are less likely to use recommended books lists than female students. Male students consistently are less likely to use the recommended books lists made by school librarians, subject teachers, and reading experts and/or organizations. Third, teacher-librarians believed that the recommended books lists would help students who do not enjoy reading and have difficulties in reading. However, the study finds that students who enjoy reading and read well are more willing to use the recommended books lists made by school librarians, subjects teachers, and reading experts and/or organizations than those who do not. Fourth, students are most willing to use the recommended books lists for college preparation. The findings suggest the further research topics in designing the recommended books lists suitable for high school students and in scaffolding the high school students' use of book information reflected in recommended books lists.

This study analyzes the spectrum of recommended books for adults included in the bibliotherapy book lists commonly used in libraries and organizations in the UK, US, and Korea. While the recommended book lists in the UK and US retain a diverse range of books relevant to the practitioners' needs, the Korean bibliotherapy book lists are mostly made up of non-fiction self-help books regardless of where the bibliotherapy service is provided. In the subcategory of the bibliotherapy book lists in the UK and US, aside from fictions, books on "health, fitness, dieting" including medical books rank higher than any other kind, which shows that bibliotherapy claims to have therapeutic effects in those organizations. In Korean bibliotherapy book lists, on the other hand, so-called "psychology books impregnated with self-help ideology" take up more than 60%. With the prospect of bibliotherapy as an interdisciplinary practice in mind, I suggest that bibliotherapy should draw upon the insights from humanities in order to help participants have time for deep introspection and attain inner maturity rather than just try to restore their normal conditions before the crisis.

In this study, overlapping recommended books in different schools were positively analyzed and the extent to which the recommended books leading to actual loan was statistically analyzed. The purpose of the study is to confirm the effects of recommended books by analyzing the data and extracting the proofs. For the method of research, eighteen elementary schools' recommended book lists and thirteen elementary schools' loan data were collected and compared by schools, by grades in a basic statistical analysis method. The result shows that recommended books similarity was low and recommended books affected the total volume of lend books. Loan frequency by grades showed the difference and in every school, lower grades had high loan frequency. The result of this study will be applied as basic data for applying recommended books in school libraries.

This study was conducted to review the reading education and the required reading list for elementary school students which is being executed as part of China's language education. For this purpose, extracurricular reading list of language curriculum standard enacted in 2011 was investigated and required list for elementary school students recommend by China's Ministry of Education education in 2012 and 2015. Furthermore, the comparative analysis of extra curricular reading list and two types of required reading list recommended by the Ministry of Education. As a result of investigation on two types of lists of required reading, it was found out that there are lots of fairy tales and science book types by genre, lots of British book by nation, and as a result of comparison with extra curricular reading list, it was found out that there is higher rate of reflection of oversease books and Chinse authorsd, and that there were higher rate of reflection of contemporary literary works and science. Based on these findings, studies on Chinese authors, Chinese fairy tales, and contemporary literary works and studies and recommendations on various subjects were suggested.

This study is to distribute 5-year-old nuri curriculum science education contents in child picture books, and to investigate the categorical difference of science education contents between domestic and foreign picture books and among genres. The subjects were 219 picture books for children from 4 to 7, listed in which is published by Children's Book Study Group in 2012 and 2013. The research tool was from the article of 5-year-old nuri curriculum nature study, to analyze the contents of young children science education in the child picture books. Content analysis categories was set to two upper-categories and seven sub-categories. Research data were calculated in the analysis of the frequency and percentage of each item's category by the method of analysis conformity. In conclusion, first, in the analyzed result of the upper categories of young children science education contents in 219 picture books, the frequency appeared in order of 'Curious to maintain and expand', 'Learn living things and the natural environment', 'To explore the investigation technique', 'To enjoy the investigation technique', 'Utilize simple tools and machines', 'To search objects and materials', 'Learn natural phenomena'. Second, in the compared result between the domestic and foreign picture books and among genres, "scientific inquiry" is appeared more than "fostering an attitude of exploration".
