The global Industry has been shaped by start-ups that originated with knowledge-based innovative strategies or technologies in the 21st century. Specifically, laboratory start-ups that rely on research papers or patents for new technology development are recognized for their high survival rate and the creation of employment opportunities. Our study concentrated on 'I-Corps', which also introduced in Korea, standing for innovation corps is a laboratory startup program launched in 2011 by the NSF(National Research Foundation) to commercialize R&D results and foster entrepreneurship as part of the policy to build a start-up system at the national innovation level. In this study, we proposed and empirically tested a research model focusing on teams participating in the I-Corps program to determine how startup team diversity, among the team characteristics of laboratory startups, affected patent performance. As a result of the analysis, among the proposed variables, age diversity, educational background diversity, and value diversity had a significant impact on patent performance. The results of this study are expected to further strengthen the theoretical and practical foundations of researchers or practitioners of the I-Corps program, as well as related areas involving technology & laboratory startups, intellectual property and knowledge management fields in the future.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills and teamwork of nurses in simulated cardiac arrests in the hospital. Methods: A descriptive study was conducted with 35 teams of 3 to 4 registered nurses each in a university hospital located in Seoul. A mannequin simulator was used to enact simulated cardiac arrest. Assessment included critical actions, time elapsed to initiation of critical actions, quality of cardiac compression, and teamwork which comprised leadership behavior and communication among team members. Results: Among the 35 teams, 54% recognized apnea, 43% determined pulselessness. Eighty percent of the teams compressed at an average elapsed time of $108{\pm}75$ seconds with 35%, 36%, and 67% mean rates of correct compression depth, rate, and placement, respectively. Thirty-seven percent of the teams defibrillated at $224{\pm}67$ seconds. Leadership behavior and communication among team members were absent in 63% and 69% of the teams, respectively. Conclusion: The skills of the nurses in this study cannot be considered adequate in terms of appropriate and timely actions required for resuscitation. Future resuscitation education should focus on improving the quality of cardiopulmonary resuscitation including team performance targeting the first responders of cardiac arrest.
Insulated oil degradation produces charged by-products, such as acids and hydro-peroxides, which tend to reduce the insulating properties of the oil. In this study, UV-vis spectroscopy measurement technology is developed and experimentally compared with other measurement methods, such as the titration method and IR spectroscopy, to validate its ability to monitor the degradation of electrical insulating paper. The degradation characteristics of the insulating paper are appropriately represented through various types of measurement methods, such as the Tan (delta) method, $CO_2$ gas production measurement, the titration method, and IR spectroscopy. The results are demonstrated to be well comparable to a change in the fluorescence emission ratio (FER), which is defined as the shift in fluorescence intensity in the measured wavelength range, and also to the chromatic ratio, which is defined as a color shift to longer wavelength ranges. The results also show that, by using UV-vis spectroscopy, it is possible to detect the degradation of the insulating paper. This study suggests that UV-vis spectroscopy can be applied as an alternative to high-performance liquid chromatography, which is the internationally recognized measurement technology for cellulose paper degradation. The FER detector is also verified to be useful as an effective condition-monitoring device for power transformers.

Deforestation and conservation of coniferous forest have been recognized as critical issues in Korea due to climate change. The main purpose of this research was to monitor changes of secondary metabolite contents and growth of Korean fir (Abies koreana) according to the temperature change in Mt. Halla. The Korean fir located at three different regions, Yeongsil, Witseoreum, and Jindallaebat, was monitored in April, July, and October from 2016 to 2018 and secondary metabolites, specifically lutein, α-carotenoid, and β-carotenoid, were analysed with high performance liquid chromatography. The results showed that average concentrations of lutein, α-carotenoid, and β-carotenoid were 0.82 - 23.30, 0.02 - 2.01, and 0.11 - 2.84 ㎍·g-1 and the highest concentration of secondary metabolite was observed in October compared to April and July. The average length and width of Korean fir in the three regions were 11.84 - 20.70 and 1.78 - 2.41 mm from 2016 - 2018. A correlation analysis showed that the concentrations of all three secondary metabolites were negatively correlated with temperature and a significant difference was observed between temperature and lutein concentration in Korean fir. Overall, growth and production of secondary metabolites in Korean fir highly depended on the temperature, and global warming thus might have an adverse effect on the growth and physiological changes of Korean fir in Mt. Halla.

As automated image processing techniques have been required in multi-temporal/multi-sensor geospatial image applications, use of automated but highly invariant image matching technique has been a critical ingredient. Note that there is high possibility of geometric and spectral differences between multi-temporal/multi-sensor geospatial images due to differences in sensor, acquisition geometry, season, and weather, etc. Among many image matching techniques, the SIFT (Scale Invariant Feature Transform) is a popular method since it has been recognized to be very robust to diverse imaging conditions. Therefore, the SIFT has high potential for the geospatial image processing. This paper presents a performance test results of the SIFT on geospatial imagery by simulating various image differences such as shear, scale, rotation, intensity, noise, and spectral differences. Since a geospatial image application often requires a number of good matching points over the images, the number of matching points was analyzed with its matching positional accuracy. The test results show that the SIFT is highly invariant but could not overcome significant image differences. In addition, it guarantees no outlier-free matching such that it is highly recommended to use outlier removal techniques such as RANSAC (RANdom SAmple Consensus).

High economic growth causes increase of the building energy consumption. The energy consumption for HVAC system accounts for 40~50% of the whole building consumption. The trend for building is large-scale and high-rise. Because of the trend, the energy consumption is becoming bigger than before. Nowadays, HVAC system design are recognized as the solution for a energy-saving. This paper is focused on the energy performance evaluation of central air-conditioning system(water-based) and system air-conditioning that were applied to the office building. The systems are modeled and simulated by using EnergyPlus Software 6.0. After the Simulation, annual cooling and heating energy consumption were calculated. It was found that the system air-conditioning can reduce the energy consumption approximately 55.24% annually compared with the central air-conditioning system(water-cooled). In addition, about 46.13% of annual operating costs can be reduced by use of system air-conditioning.

The nuclear power industry in the world has recognized the importance of integrating non-technical and team skills training with the technical training given to its control room operators to reduce human errors since the Three Mile Island and Chernobyl accidents. The Nuclear power plant (NPP) industry in Korea has been also making efforts to reduce the human errors which largely have contributed to 120 nuclear reactor trips from the year 2001 to 2006. The Crew Resource Management (CRM) training was one of the efforts to reduce the human errors in the nuclear power industry. The CRM was developed as a response to new insights into the causes of aircraft accidents which followed from the introduction of flight recorders and cockpit voice recorders into modern jet aircraft. The CRM first became widely used in the commercial airline industry, but military aviation, shipboard crews, medical and surgical teams, offshore oil crews, and other high-consequence, high-risk, time-critical industry teams soon followed. This study aims to develop a CRM training program that helps to improve plant performance by reducing the number of reactor trips caused by the operators' errors in Korean NPP. The program is; firstly, based on the work we conducted to develop a human factors training from the applications to the Nuclear Power Plant; secondly, based on a number of guidelines from the current practicable literature; thirdly, focused on team skills, such as leadership, situational awareness, teamwork, and communication, which have been widely known to be critical for improving the operational performance and reducing human errors in Korean NPPs; lastly, similar to the event-based training approach that many researchers have applied in other domains: aircraft, medical operations, railroads, and offshore oilrigs. We conducted an experiment to test effectiveness of the CRM training program in a condition of simulated control room also. We found that the program made the operators' attitudes and behaviors be improved positively from the experimental results. The more implications of the finding were discussed further in detail.
Purpose: Prior studies have sought to find antecedent to improve firm performance. However, research on compensation systems and employees' psychological mechanisms have been relatively limited. In this sense, this study has investigated the impact of compensation gap between TMT and employees on firm performance, and explored the factors that affect the above relationship. Specifically, this study analyzed the direct impact of compensation gap on firm performance. In addition, the process of compensation gap to firm performance is assumed to be significantly influenced by employees' recognized promotion system and satisfaction with TMT. Therefore, we examined moderating effects of both promotion probability and opportunity, and satisfaction with TMT on the relationship between compensation gap and firm performance. Methods: For empirical test, financial variables were collected from TS-2000 database, and moderating variables were collected form Job Planet for listed firms in Korea. We conducted hierarchical regression analysis to test hypotheses. Results: The findings of empirical analysis are as follows. First, compensation gap between TMT and employees had a positive effect on firm performance. Second, when promotion probability and opportunity was high, the effect of compensation gap on firm performance was strengthened. Third, when satisfaction with TMT was high, the positive effect of compensation gap on firm performance was also strengthened. Conclusion: Our findings have expanded prior research on human resource management and labor relation by identifying the positive role of compensation gap between TMT and employees on firm outcome. Moreover, our results also indicated that promotion probability and opportunity, and satisfaction with TMT, which has not been addressed well in previous studies, were important conditions enhancing the positive relationship between compensation gap and firm performance. Finally, this study suggest several theoretical and managerial implication with future research direction.

The stage costume in theater, along with the stage art, is the element that has the biggest visual effect in helping the audience to understand the theater. Nevertheless, in the domestic theater production system, compared with the other public performance products, the stage costume has been rented or purchased due to the lack understanding of the importance of the stage costume and budget problem, and thus the role of the stage costume has been undervalued. Such a phenomenon is more noticeable in the small scale theater. However, in this play White Neutral Nation (Original: Andorra), the production team and the directing team recognized the importance of the costume in the early stage of production, and accordingly lots of efforts, such as staff meetings and budget allocation, were made for the stage costume. As a result, the entire production process of the stage costume could be examined. Recently, performance culture in Korea has made rapid progress and diverse forms of public performances are created and planned. Accordingly, the level of audience has been rising and the interest in the stage costume is also rising. So, it can be said that not only the stage costume but also the production system that makes it are important. This research examined the production process of the stage costume only of the play White Neutral Nation but it is considered necessary to make researches on the production process of the stage costume used for the theater of different themes and public performances of different kinds and to systematize their production process of the stage costume.

This study presents the design and manufacture of a self-contained breathing apparatus SCBA wireless communication module with a multipoint simultaneous full-duplex communication system to enable communication between team members wearing the SCBA system. It is necessary for fire-fighters to wear the SCBA system during extinguishing and rescue work at the fire site. Evaluation of the team communication module confirmed the feasibility of communication over more than 500 m in the test condition based on the line of sight. By implementing the Ad-hoc function, it was confirmed that the communication distance could be extended to 128 m by automatic routing up to 3 hoc. The vertical distance inside the building for successful communication was up to the 5th floor in the open staircase and up to the 3rd floor in the partitioned staircase. Furthermore, the performance testing of the communication module assuming a fire situation, confirmed that five team members correctly recognized the standard abbreviation of fire and wireless communication without a separate PTT key operation. In addition, the flame resistance was verified by exposing the module to a flame at 950 ± 50 ℃ for 5 s and then immediately extinguishing the flame.
