  • These days, traditional and complementary/alternative medicine (TM/CAM) becomes more upsurging topics of increasing importance and the use and popularity of TM/CAM is rapidly expanding, Since the tradition and situation on TM/CAM of each country is quite different, the concept and system of TM/CAM expressed by different countries shows the variety of range. Some countries recognize TM/CAM as one part of two branches of medical science and have integrated into national health care system. In these countries, education systems for TM/CAM are also well organized formal education systems, such as the Republic of Korea, DPR Korea, China (including Hong Kong and Macao), and Viet Nam. However, other countries in Asia and the Pacific. still do not have formal and/or informal education system and do not recognize TM/CAM as a kind of health care systems. This paper reviews the current situation of education and training on TM/CAM in the Asia and the Pacific. As a result, fifteen countries (31.3%) of 48 member countries in Asia and the Pacific have formal education systems for TM/CAM, twelve countries (25.0%) do not have formal education system and twenty one countries (43.7%) do not have available information. At least six countries are allocating the curriculum of medical school to the education of both allopathic and traditional medicine. For the proper use and development of TM/CAM, the development of formal education system as well as the integration into the national health care system are needed.

  • A subject to recognize the damaged facial image is becoming an important issue in commercialization of automatic face recognition. The method to recognize a face on a damaged image is divided into two types. The one is to recognize remainders after removing the damaged information and the other is to recognize a total face after recovering the damaged information. On this paper, we present the reconstruction method by analyzing the main materials after extracting the damaged region through Kohonen network. The suggested algorithm in this paper estimates feature vectors of the damaged region using eigen-faces in PCA and then reconstructs the damaged image. This allows also the reconstruction under the untrained images. Through testing the artificial images where the eye and the mouth which have many effects to face recognition are damaged, the recognition rate of the proposed results showed similar results with the method which used Kohonen network, and improved about 11.8% more than symmetrical property method. Also, in case of the untrained image, our results improved about 14% more than that of the Kohonen method and about 7% more than that of the symmetrical property method.

  • This paper describes how to recognize hand written Hangeul character using the stroke order of the elementary segment. The recognition system is constructed of parts : character input part, segment disassembling part, character element extraction part and character recognition part. The character input part reads the character and performs thinning algorithm. In the segment disassembling part, the input character is disassembled into elementary segments using the direction codes and the feature parameters. In the character element extraction part, we extract the character element using the stroke order and the knowledge rule. Finally, we able to recognize the hand written Hangeul characters by assembling the character elements, in the character recognition part.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to recognize the moving direction in the indoor environment by using the sensing system equipped with passive infrared (PIR) sensors and a deep learning algorithm. A PIR sensor generates a signal that can be distinguished according to the direction of movement of the user. A sensing system with four PIR sensors deployed by $45^{\circ}$ increments is developed and installed in the ceiling of the room. The PIR sensor signals from 6 users with 10-time experiments for 8 directions were collected. We extracted the raw data sets and performed experiments varying the number of sensors fed into the deep learning algorithm. The proposed sensing system using deep learning algorithm can recognize the users' moving direction by 99.2 %. In addition, with only one PIR senor, the recognition accuracy reaches 98.4%.

  • As interest in augmented reality has increased recently, attempts have been made to incorporate augmented reality into various fields. In implementing augmented reality, the method by which markers are used is to extract feature points of markers to recognize 3D coordinates and, in some cases, it is necessary to recognize multiple markers simultaneously. Therefore, this paper proposes optimization methods for recognising multiple markers at the same time. Unity 3D and augmented reality library Vuforia are used to implement the experimental environment. The augmented reality program produced was implemented in an application form and tested using a mobile camera. We looked for optimization methods for manufacturing markers directly and for recognizing multiple markers through changes in the experimental environment. The results of the experiment can provide a higher recognition rate in an environment where multiple marker recognition is required later.

  • This paper reports on the development of a recognition system for Korean character, numbers and punctuation marks by syntactic approach after extracting a character or punctuation mark from a page of text.First, using the projection profile(Masudaet.al.1985,Pavlidin 1981)method, we segment a page into different regions of column or row major and then extracts lines of characters from it.Considering the height, width and connectivity of character block,we proceed to extract syllables from the extracted lines.Basically we distinguish syables into six types of formal pattern(남궁재찬 1982,이주근등 1981)following the research of lee and others, and the punctuation marks and numbers into two kinds of formal patterns, and discriminate the surface structure of the extracted syllables.By Index-Removal algorithm,we subdivide them into 44 kinds of basic korean subpattern and special characters (numbers, punctuation marks)and recognize them by syntactic method(이주근등 1981.)

  • GOMS model is a cognitive modeling method of human performance based on Goal, Operators, Methods, Selection rules. GOMS model was originally designed for desktop environment so that it is difficult for GOMS model to be implemented into the mobile environment. In addition, GOMS model would be inaccurate because the original GOMS model was based on serial processing, excluding one of most important human information processing characteristics, parallel processing. Therefore this study was designed to propose a modified GOMS model including mobile computing and parallel processing. In order to encompass mobile environment, an operator of 'look for' was divided into 'visual move to' and 'recognize' whereas 'point to' and 'click' were combined into 'tab.' The results showed that newly introduced operators were necessary to estimate more accurate mobile computing behaviors. In conclusion, modified-GOMS model could predict human performance more accurately than the original GOMS model in the mobile computing environment.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the possibility of introducing the history of science in modern Korea into elementary education. Although there are many studies on applying a history of science to science education, they do not pay attention to the history of science in modern Korea. I survey research papers on the history of science in modern Korea and science education based on a history of science, and elementary science textbooks in Korea, Japan and the US. When we apply the history of science in modern Korea into elementary education, elementary students will recognize science has close relations to Korean culture and history and they will develop the familiarity with science. I show there are 3 ways using the history of science in modern Korea in elementary education: 1) Applying Korean scientists' research contents to science education, 2) Measures to evaluate Korean scientists correctly, 3) Materials for science education programs for gifted elementary students.
