  • This paper proposes an approach of a novel facial expression recognition to deal with different intensities to improve a performance of a facial expression recognition. Various expressions and intensities of each person make an affect to decrease the performance of the facial expression recognition. The effect of different intensities of facial expression has been seldom focused on. In this paper, a face expression template and an expression-intensity distribution model are introduced to recognize different facial expression intensities. These techniques, facial expression template and expression-intensity distribution model contribute to improve the performance of facial expression recognition by describing how the shift between multiple interest points in the vicinity of facial parts and facial parts varies for different facial expressions and its intensities. The proposed method has the distinct advantage that facial expression recognition with different intensities can be very easily performed with a simple calibration on video sequences as well as still images. Experimental results show a robustness that the method can recognize facial expression with weak intensities.

  • We propose a real time user interface that utilizes emotion recognition by physiological signals. To improve the problem that was low accuracy of emotion recognition through the traditional EEG(ElectroEncephaloGram), We developed a physiological signals-based emotion recognition system mixing relative power spectrum values of theta/alpha/beta/gamma EEG waves and autonomic nerve signal ratio of ECG (ElectroCardioGram). We propose both a data map and weight value modification algorithm to recognize six emotions of happy, fear, sad, joy, anger, and hatred. The datamap that stores the user-specific probability value is created and the algorithm updates the weighting to improve the accuracy of emotion recognition corresponding to each EEG channel. Also, as we compared the results of the EEG/ECG bio-singal complex data and single data consisting of EEG, the accuracy went up 23.77%. The proposed interface system with high accuracy will be utillized as a useful interface for controlling the game spaces and smart spaces.

  • This paper describes a large-vocabulary continuous speech recognition system using continuous hidden Markov models for the Korean language. To improve the performance of the system, we study on the selection of speech modeling units, inter-word modeling, search algorithm, and grammars. We used triphones as basic speech modeling units, generalized triphones and function word-dependent phones are used to improve the trainability of speech units and to reduce errors in function words. Silence between words is optionally inserted by using a silence model and a null transition. Word pair grammar and bigram model based oil word classes are used. Also we implement a search algorithm to find N-best candidate sentences. A postprocessor reorders the N-best sentences using word triple grammar, selects the most likely sentence as the final recognition result, and finally corrects trivial errors related with postpositions. In recognition tests using a 3,000-word continuous speech database, the system attained $93.1\%$ word recognition accuracy and $73.8\%$ sentence recognition accuracy using word triple grammar in postprocessing.

  • In general, Levenshtein distance algorithm have a problem with not distinguish the consideration of vacabulary retrieve, because Levenshtein methode is used to vocabulary order are not defined. In this paper, we propose a improved Levenshtein methode, it effectively manage the vocabulary retrieve by frequency use of a vocabulary, and it gives the weight number which have a order between vocabularies. Therefore proposed methode have a advantage of solve the defect of perception rate in the case of increase the vocabulary, improve the recognition time become higher and it can be effectively retrieval space management.. System performance as a result of represent vocabulary dependence recognition rate of 97.81%, vocabulary independence recognition rate of 96.91% in indoor environment. Also, vocabulary dependence recognition rate of 91.11%, vocabulary independence recognition rate of 90.01% in outdoor environment.

  • Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals cannot be counterfeited and can easily acquire signals from both wrists. In this paper, we propose a method of generating a coupling image using direction information of ECG signals as well as its usage in a personal recognition method. The proposed coupling image is generated by using forward ECG signal and rotated inverse ECG signal based on R-peak, and the generated coupling image shows a unique pattern and brightness. In addition, R-peak data is increased through the ECG signal calculation of the same beat, and it is thus possible to improve the recognition performance of the individual. The generated coupling image extracts characteristics of pattern and brightness by using the proposed convolutional neural network and reduces data size by using multiple pooling layers to improve network speed. The experiment uses public ECG data of 47 people and conducts comparative experiments using five networks with top 5 performance data among the public and the proposed networks. Experimental results show that the recognition performance of the proposed network is the highest with 99.28%, confirming potential of the personal recognition.

  • In this paper, authors propose the sensor fusion system that can recognize multiple 3D objects from 2D projection images and tactile information. The proposed system focuses on improving recognition performance of 3D object. Unlike the conventional object recognition system that uses image sensor alone, the proposed method uses tactual sensors in addition to visual sensor. Neural network is used to fuse these informations. Tactual signals are obtained from the reaction force by the pressure sensors at the fingertips when unknown objects are grasped by four-fingered robot hand. The experiment evaluates the recognition rate and the number of teaming iterations of various objects. The merits of the proposed systems are not only the high performance of the learning ability but also the reliability of the system with tactual information for recognizing various objects even though visual information has a defect. The experimental results show that the proposed system can improve recognition rate and reduce learning time. These results verify the effectiveness of the proposed sensor fusion system as recognition scheme of 3D object.

  • In this paper object recognition using neural network is studied. The recognition is accomplished by matching linear line segments which are formed by local features extracted from the curvature points. Since there is similarities among segments. The boundary of models is not distinct in feature space. Due to these indistinctness the ambiguity of recognition occurs, and the recognition rate becomes degraded according to the limitation of boundary decision capability of neural network for similar of features. Object recognition and to improve recognition rate. Local features are used to represent the object effectively. The validity of the object recognition system is demonstrated by experiments for the occluded and varied objects.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate recognition and attitudes about social service activity(SSA) of nurses. Method: This was a descriptive study. The data was collected from July 15 to 31, 2002 by using a self-report questionnaire consisting of general characteristics(15items), recognition(24items) and attitude(23items) about SSA. The questionnaire was sent to 711 nurses of 38 hospitals in the Gyounggi province area, and 664 questionnaires were returned. The answer rate was 93.4%. The data was analyzed by the SPSS 12.0 Win program. Result: Seventy-one percent of nurses had a SSA experience during university, but only 14.2% nurses participate in SSA now. The mean score of recognition of SSA was 3.58($\pm$0.45), and that of attitude was 3.70($\pm$0.42). The relationship between recognition and attitude had a positive correlation(r=.398, p=.000), the higher the score of recognition, the higher the score of attitude. Conclusion: From these results, to improve nurses' participation in SSA, research to investigate the barrier factors of SSA participation in spite of the high level of recognition and attitude is needed. Programs for nurses to participate in SSA and systemic management should be set up.
