  • In this study, we try to find ways to recognize face recognition more stably and to improve the effectiveness and reliability of face recognition. In order to improve the face recognition rate, a lot of data must be used, but that does not necessarily mean that the recognition rate is improved. Another criterion for improving the recognition rate can be seen that the top/bottom of the recognition rate is determined depending on how accurately or precisely the degree of classification of the data to be used is made. There are various methods for classification analysis, but in this study, classification analysis is performed using a support vector machine (SVM). In this study, feature information is extracted using a normalized image with rotation information, and then projected onto the eigenspace to investigate the relationship between the feature values through the classification analysis of SVM. Verification through classification analysis can improve the effectiveness and reliability of various recognition fields such as object recognition as well as face recognition, and will be of great help in improving recognition rates.

  • There are many ways to perform face recognition. The first step of face recognition is the face detection step. If the face is not found in the first step, the face recognition fails. Face detection research has many difficulties because it can be varied according to face size change, left and right rotation and up and down rotation, side face and front face, facial expression, and light condition. In this study, facial features are extracted and the extracted features are geometrically reconstructed in order to improve face recognition rate in extracted face region. Also, it is aimed to adjust face angle using reconstructed facial feature vector, and to improve recognition rate for each face angle. In the recognition attempt using the result after the geometric reconstruction, both the up and down and the left and right facial angles have improved recognition performance.

  • As smart devices get popular, research on gesture recognition using their embedded-accelerometer draw attention. As Dynamic Time Warping(DTW), recently, has been used to perform gesture recognition on data sequence from accelerometer, in this paper we propose Feature-Strengthened Gesture Recognition(FsGr) Model which can improve the recognition success rate when DTW is used. FsGr model defines feature-strengthened parts of data sequences to similar gestures which might produce unsuccessful recognition, and performs additional DTW on them to improve the recognition rate. In training phase, FsGr model identifies sets of similar gestures, and analyze features of gestures per each set. During recognition phase, it makes additional recognition attempt based on the result of feature analysis to improve the recognition success rate, when the result of first recognition attempt belongs to a set of similar gestures. We present the performance result of FsGr model, by experimenting the recognition of lower case alphabets.

  • In vocabulary recognition using an HMM model which models the prior distribution for the observation of a discrete probability distribution indicates the advantages of low computational complexity, but relatively low recognition rate. The Bayesian techniques to improve vocabulary recognition model, it is proposed using a convergence of two methods to improve recognition noise-canceling recognition. In this paper, using a convergence of the prior probability method and techniques of Bayesian posterior probability based on HMM remove noise and improves the recognition rate. The result of applying the proposed method, the recognition rate of 97.9% in vocabulary recognition, respectively.

  • Emotion recognition is an important component of affective computing, and is significant in the implementation of natural and friendly human-computer interaction. An effective approach to recognizing emotion from text is based on a machine learning technique, which deals with emotion recognition as a classification problem. However, in emotion recognition, the texts involved are usually very short, leaving a very large, sparse feature space, which decreases the performance of emotion classification. This paper proposes to resolve the problem of feature sparseness, and largely improve the emotion recognition performance from short texts by doing the following: representing short texts with word cluster features, offering a novel word clustering algorithm, and using a new feature weighting scheme. Emotion classification experiments were performed with different features and weighting schemes on a publicly available dataset. The experimental results suggest that the word cluster features and the proposed weighting scheme can partly resolve problems with feature sparseness and emotion recognition performance.

  • As one of the most widely used technology in the world right now, Face recognition has already received widespread attention by all the researcher and institutes. It has been used in many fields such as safety protection, surveillance system, crime control and even in our ordinary life such as home security and so on. This technology with today's technology has advantages such as high connectivity and real time transformation. But we still need to improve its recognition rate, reaction time and also reduce impact of different environmental status to the whole system. So in this paper we proposed a face recognition system model with improved CNN which combining the characteristics of flat network and residual network, integrated learning, simplify network structure and enhance portability and also improve the recognition accuracy. We also used AR and ORL database to do the experiment and result shows higher recognition rate, efficiency and robustness for different image conditions.

  • Abstract- In distant-talking environments, speech recognition performance degrades significantly due to noise and reverberation. Recent work of Michael L. Selzer shows that in microphone array speech recognition, the word error rate can be significantly reduced by adapting the beamformer weights to generate a sequence of features which maximizes the likelihood of the correct hypothesis. In this approach, called Likelihood Maximizing Beamforming algorithm (Limabeam), one of the method to implement this Limabeam is an UnSupervised Limabeam(USL) that can improve recognition performance in any situation of environment. From our investigation for this USL, we could see that because the performance of optimization depends strongly on the transcription output of the first recognition step, the output become unstable and this may lead lower performance. In order to improve recognition performance of USL, some post-filter techniques can be employed to obtain more correct transcription output of the first step. In this work, as a post-filtering technique for first recognition step of USL, we propose to add a Wiener-Filter combined with Feature Weighted Malahanobis Distance to improve recognition performance. We also suggest an alternative way to implement Limabeam algorithm for Hidden Markov Network (HM-Net) speech recognizer for efficient implementation. Speech recognition experiments performed in real distant-talking environment confirm the efficacy of Limabeam algorithm in HM-Net speech recognition system and also confirm the improved performance by the proposed method.

  • Since Sparse Nonnegative Matrix Factorization (SNMF) method can control the sparsity of the decomposed matrix, and then it can be adopted to control the sparsity of facial feature extraction and recognition. In order to improve the accuracy of SNMF method for facial feature recognition, new additive iterative rules based on the improved iterative step sizes are proposed to improve the SNMF method, and then the traditional multiplicative iterative rules of SNMF are transformed to additive iterative rules. Meanwhile, to further increase the sparsity of the basis matrix decomposed by the improved SNMF method, a threshold-sparse constraint is adopted to make the basis matrix to a zero-one matrix, which can further improve the accuracy of facial feature recognition. The improved SNMF method based on the additive iterative rules and threshold-sparse constraint is abbreviated as ASNMF, which is adopted to recognize the ORL and CK+ facial datasets, and achieved recognition rate of 96% and 100%, respectively. Meanwhile, from the results of the contrast experiments, it can be found that the recognition rate achieved by the ASNMF method is obviously higher than the basic NMF, traditional SNMF, convex nonnegative matrix factorization (CNMF) and Deep NMF.

  • Healthcare professionals have edited many health questions (HQs) and their answers for healthcare consumers on the Internet. The HQs provide both readable and reliable health information, and hence retrieval of those HQs that are relevant to a given question is essential for health education and promotion through the Internet. However, retrieval of relevant HQs needs to be based on the recognition of the intention of each HQ, which is difficult to be done by predefining syntactic and semantic rules. We thus model the intention recognition problem as a text classification problem, and develop two techniques to improve a learning-based text classifier for the problem. The two techniques improve the classifier by location-based and area-based feature weightings, respectively. Experimental results show that, the two techniques can work together to significantly improve a Support Vector Machine classifier in both the recognition of HQ intentions and the retrieval of relevant HQs.

  • The field of handwriting recognition has been researched for many years. A hybrid classifier has been proven to be able to increase the recognition rate compared with a single classifier. In this paper, we combine support vector machine (SVM) and hidden Markov model (HMM) for offline handwritten numeral recognition. To improve the performance, we extract features adapted for each classifier and propose the modified SVM decision structure. The experimental results show that the proposed method can achieve improved recognition rate for handwritten numeral recognition.
