The computer simulation model was used to forecast the concentrations of COD$_{cr}$, NH$_{4}$$^{+}$-N and NO$_{3}$$^{-}$-N in each reactors. In the biological wastewater treatment system, the computer simulation model was used to observe the behavior of pollutants especially. In this research, effect of SRT, feeding pattern and recirculation rate on UCT(University of Cape Town) process was evaluated by computer simulation model. T-N removal was affected to the SRT. SRT for effective T-N removal was 15 days or longer. Feeding pattern in UCT process was affected to the T-N removal. Feeding pattern which 100% loading to the first reactor was most effective for T-N removal. The effect of recirculation rate was clear for T-N removal. The recirculation from anoxic reactor to anaerobic reactor was not need but the recirculation from oxic reactor to anoxic reactor was need. In aspect of nitrogen removal efficiency, A/O process was higher than UCT process.
Oxygen-enriched non-premixed flame characteristics was investigated numerically with variation of dilution methods, which are Flue gas recirculation(FGR) and fuel injection recirculation(FIR). In order to compare flamelets in various oxygen-enrichment conditions reasonably, the adiabatic flame temperature and Damkoller number was held fixed by modulating amount of diluents to fuel and oxidizer stream and by varying global strain rate of flame respectively. Also modified GRI 3.0 reaction mechanism was utilized, which was able to predict oxygen-enriched methane flame correctly. Fundamental flame characteristics such as structure, heat release rate and extinction with FGR and FIR were compared in various oxygen enrichment conditions.
Investigation on Flue Gas Recirculation(FGR) flame and Fuel Injection Recirculation(FIR) flame was performed with numerical method. Quantitative Reaction Path Diagram(QRPD) is utilized to compare the different chemistry effects between FGR flame and FIR flame. In order to compare flamelets in various oxygen-enrichment conditions reasonably, the adiabatic flame temperature and Damkohler number were held fixed by modulating the amount of diluents to fuel and oxidizer stream and by varying global strain rate of flame respectively. Basic flame structures were compared and characteristics of CH$_4$ decomposition and NO formation were analyzed based on QRPD analysis between FGR flame and FIR flame.
In this study, the results of PBDEs and HBCDs of the products and waste that contain BFRs such as domestic electronic products, automobiles and textile products were compared with international management standards, and their excess rates were calculated. Deca-BDE was detected among the PBDEs in TV rear cover plastics, car seats, automotive interior plastics, and automobile shredding residues of products and waste containing BFRs. The comparison with Basel Convention management standards (1,000 mg/kg) for PBDE-containing wastes (4 types in total) shows that the excess rate of all samples was less than 1.5%. The estimated excess rate compared to the EU and Basel convention management standards (1,000 mg/kg) for PBDEs (4 species + deca-BDE) and TV rear cover plastics was 37.5% (30 of 80 samples exceeded the standards). The estimated excess rate compared to the Basel convention management standards (1,000 mg/kg) for HBCD, building materials products and waste was 15.7% (17 of 108 samples exceeded the standards). In the case of PBDEs, it is necessary to remove only the rear cover of CRT TV among the electric and electronic products and treat it in the flame retardant treatment facility to improve the recycling collection system. In the case of HBCD, it is necessary to appropriately dispose of the recycled materials, heat insulation materials, TV plastics, and styrofoam in marine fishery among construction materials and restrict the use as recycled raw materials.
Since the Framework Act on Resource Circulation was enacted in 2018, the government should establish a National Resource Circulation Master Plan every 10 years, which defines mid- to long-term policy goals and directions on the efficient use of resources, prevention of waste generation and recycling of waste. In addition, we must set mid- to long-term and stepwise targets for the final disposal rate, recycling rate (based on sorted recyclable materials and recycled products), and energy recovery rate of wastes, and relevant measures should be taken to achieve these targets. However, the current industrial waste (IW) statistics have limitations in setting these targets because the final disposal rate and recycling rate are calculated as the ratio of the recycling facility input to the IW generation. In this study, the material flow from the collection stage to the final disposal of industrial waste was analyzed based on the generation of 2016, and the actual recycling amount, actual incineration amount, final disposal amount and their rates were calculated. The effect on the recycling, incineration and final disposal rates was examined by changing the treatment method of nonhazardous wastes from the factory and construction and demolition wastes, which were put in landfills in 2016. In addition, the variation of the waste treatment charge was investigated according to the change of treatment methods. The results of this study are expected to be effectively used to establish the National Resource Circulation Master Plan and industrial waste management policy in the future in South Korea.
Flue gas recirculation (FGR) is widely adopted to control NO emission in combustion systems. Recirculated flue gas decreases flame temperature and reaction rate, resulting in the decrease in thermal NO production. Recently, it has been demonstrated that the recirculated flue gas in fuel stream, that is, the fuel induced recirculation (FIR), could enhance much improved reduction in NO per unit mass of recirculated gas, as compared to conventional FGR in air. In the present study, the effect of dilution methods in air and fuel sides on NO reduction has been investigated numerically by using $N_2$ and $CO_2$ as diluent gases to simulate flue gases. Counterflow diffusion flames were studied in conjunction with the laminar flamelet model of turbulent flames. Results showed that $CO_2$ dilution was more effective in NO reduction because of large temperature drop due to the larger specific heat of $CO_2$ compared to $N_2$. Fuel dilution was more effective in reducing NO emission than air dilution when the same recirculation ratio of dilution gas was used by the increase in the nozzle exit velocity, thereby the stretch rate, with dilution gas added to fuel side.
An experimental study was conducted to Indentify the dlrpct denitrification of ammonium nitrogen In culture water by ozone. During the experimnet period, pH was 7.8-8.8. pH was grdually lower after ammonium nitrogen was reacted with ozone under Br . In addition, it can be tmown that the culturing water was improved greatly form the inverstigation of T-N by biofilm and ozonation. As the results of a variation of recirculation rate, denitrification of ammonium nitrogen was in increased in proportion to the recirculation rate. But Nitrification of microorganism was opposite to the recirculation rate. With the increasing injected ozone in ozonation tank uner 21 clrculation/day(6.71 /min), dinitrification of ammonium nitrogen was Increased lineraly in propotion to the Increasing of injected ozone concentration.
This paper is concerned with the Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) engine as a new concept in engines and a power source for future automotive applications. Essentially a combination of spark ignition and compression ignition engines, the HCCI engine exhibits low NOx and Particulate Matter (PM) emissions as well as high efficiency under part load. The objective of this research is to determine the effects of Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) rate on the combustion processes of HCCI. For this purpose, a 4-cylinder, compression ignition engine was converted into a HCCI engine, and a heating device was installed to raise the temperature of the intake air and also to make it more consistent. In addition, a pressure sensor was inserted into each of the cylinders to investigate the differences in characteristics among the cylinders.
The textile which is rotated in the tumbler dryer is dried by the heated air. the energy consumption for drying textile depends on various parameters. The objective of this study is to save the energy and the drying time. One of the various methods for energy saving is EGR(exhaust gas recirculation). We set the drying equipment for this study and perform the experimental study with the changes of the recirculation rate, the input power, and the air mass flow rate. We found the optimal drying conditions.
In this study, we tested the absorption of $CO_2$ in combustion gas into an alkaline wastewater to simultaneously control $CO_2$ and wastewater. During the experiment, we investigated the effects of operating parameters on neutralization characteristics of the wastewater by using $CO_2$ in a bench-scale semi-batch jet loop reactor (0.1 m diameter and 1.0 m in height). The operating parameters investigated in the study are gas flow rate of 1.0-2.0 L/min, liquid recirculation flow rate of 4-32 L/min, and liquid temperature of $20-25^{\circ}C$. It was shown that the initial pH of wastewater rapidly decreased with increased gas flow rate for a given liquid recirculation flow rate. This was due to the increase in the gas holdup and the interfacial area at higher gas flow rate in the reactor. At constant gas flow rate, the time required to neutralize the wastewater initial pH of 10.1 decreased with liquid recirculation flow rate ($Q_L$), reached a minimum value in the range of $Q_L$ = 16-24 L/min, and then increased with further increase in $Q_L$. Further, the time required to neutralize the wastewater was shortened at higher temperatures.
