  • Recent progress of the in-plane switching (IPS) TFT-LCD technologies is reviewed. We call the improved new technology 'advanced super IPS TFT-LCD(AS-IPS)'. After suppressing the viewing angle dependency of essential display characteristics, recent brightness, viewing angle and motion picture quality has been highly improved. The stage is now introducing it into consumer information appliance for higher display performances, by which we could open a large size digital LCD TVs application.

  • Recent progress of several kinds of compounds which have been synthesized or isolated from natural fungi for screening or conducting test as agricultural fungicides as well as some formulations for wood stain and decay control have been reviewed in this paper in China. Comments were pointed for Chinas further research and development of fungicides as well as pesticides.

  • We present the most recent experimental results on Thin-beam Directional X'tallization (TDX), a rapid excimer-laser-based crystallization method for creating extremely high-quality large-grained polycrystalline silicon films on glass substrates. We will present experimental data obtained with our prototype Gen 2 tool, and discuss the ability to produce different types of poly-Si material.

  • Recent developments in Dual Select Diode (DSD) AMLCD technology are described. They include a novel array design and drive method with shared select lines, which leads to higher aperture ratio and a further reduction of module cost. A Color-On-Array DSD process and pixel layout compatible with In-Plane-Switching is also proposed.

  • Super-inflation driven by dilaton/moduli kinetic energy is naturally realized in compactified string theory. Discussed are selected topics of recent development in string inflationary cosmology: kinematics of super-inflation, graceful exit triggered by quantum back-reaction, and classical and quantum power spectra of density and metric perturbations.

  • Recent surveys at Parkes, in particular the 70 cm survey of the southern sky, have discovered many pulsars, including 17 miilisecond pulsars in the Galactic disk. Timing and polarization observations of some of these pulsars are described. The only two pulsars known to be in orbit around massive non-degenerate stellar compamons were also discovered at Parkes, and some recent observational results for these pulsars are also presented.
