Taps Delayed Lines Architecture Based on Linear Transmit Zero-Forcing Approach for Ultra-Wide Band MIMO Communication Systems

  • In this paper, a transmitter-based multipath processing and inter-channel interference (ICI) cancellation scheme for a ultra-wideband (UWB) spatial multiplexing (SM) multiple input multiple output (MIMO) system is presented. It consists of taps delayed lines and zero-forcing (ZF) filters in the transmitter and correlators in the receiver. For a UWB SM MIMO system with N transmit antennas, M receive antennas, and Q resolvable multipath components, the BER performance of a linear transmit ZF scheme is analyzed in a log-normal fading channel and also compared with that of a receiver-based ICI rejection approach. It is found that when M ${\leq}$ N, the transmit ZF processing approach outperforms the ZF receiver while making the mobile units low-cost and low-power.

  • In this paper, a software-based Digital Radio Modiale(DRM) receiver is implemented on a Digital Signal Processor(DSP). DRM stands for the European radio broadcasting standard to bring AM radio into digital radio, designed to work at frequencies below 30MHz. DRM can offer various data services such as text messaging and slideshow services as well as audio services. The DRM receiver implemented on the Tensilica DSP core performs well at low signal strength indication of -102dBm.

  • In this paper, we analyze the anynchrous cellular hybrid DS/FH spread spectrum system with diversity on nonselective Nakagami fading channel. Binary Psk scheme is considered and random spreading code sequences and random hopping patterns are used. We compare the performance of system using hard-limiting correlation receiver with diversity and linear corrleation receiver in Nakagami fading channel. We compute the average bit error probabilities with/without diversity according to spreading code sequence and the number of hop-ping frequencies under the same handwith espansion, and analyze near-far effect. The results show that hard-limiting correlation receiver with diversity gives a good performance over severe fading channel.

  • Multi-input multi-output (MIMO) system can increase data rate, capacity and bit error rate (BER) performance compare to traditional single antenna system. However MIMO technique is pointed out the problem that has high complexity to design receiver. So a recent trend of research on the MIMO system pays more attention to simplified implementation of receiver structure. In this paper, we propose differential space time block code (STBC) for MIMO system with cyclic delay diversity (CDD). This structure can provide a very close performance to that of the conventional diversity scheme with maximum likelihood (ML) detection without channel estimation block while the receiver structure is highly simplified. Bit error rate (BER) performance of the proposed system is simulated for an AWGN channel by theoretical and simulated approaches. The results of this paper can be applicable to the 4G mobile multimedia communication systems.

  • We investigate the optimization problem of transmit power control and MMSE Receiver filter for multi access points environment. Previous work showed that increasing the number of access points decreases the transmit power consumption. Accordingly, transmit power control algorithm was developed in such a way that the transmit power is minimized, while each terminal meets Signal to Interference and Noise Ratio Requirement. In this work, we further reduce the transmit power consumption by optimizing the transmit power level and the MMSE receiver filter together. We showed that the proposed joint optimization algorithm satisfies the necessary and sufficient conditions to be standard interference function, which guarantees convergence and minimum transmit power consumption. We observed that the proposed algorithm outperforms the algorithm which only optimizes the transmit power.

  • An attitude GPS receiver with 3 antennas obtains 3-dimensional attitude using GPS carrier phase measurement INS obtains the 3 dimensional navigation solution for IMU consisting of accelerometers and gyro. Ground-alignment process for the low -cost INS cannot be performed well due to the large sensor noise. Using the standard GPS receiver, however, continuous in-flight alignment for the INS becomes possible, and consequently, the errors in IMU sensors and navigation solution can be compensated. Especially with attitude measurement from the attitude GPS receiver, the compensation of errors in gyroscope and attitude would be done respite of the vehicle´s dynamics and their error covariance would be reduced.   • In this paper, a signal processing algorithm for software GPS receiver is proposed. The signal processor takes snapshot of the sampled If signal from the RF section of the GPS receiver. All the processing for code and carrier tracking and correlation are implemented using the digital signal processing techniques. In order to achieve fast code acquisition, correlation of the incoming GPS signal is performed using the FFT method, After code acquisition, to reduce the Doppler shift effect and increase the accuracy, the interpolation or the tracking are performed. The performance of the proposed processing algorithm is first evaluated using matlab/simulink. A signal acquisition board for sampling and logging GPS IF signal form the Mitel GPS RF chip set is constructed. In order to analyze the performance of the designed algorithm the experiments are performed and the results are analyzed.

Introducing Software Defined Radio to 4GWireless: Necessity, Advantage, and Impediment

  • This work summarizes the current state of the art in software radio for 4G systems. Specifically, this work demonstrates that classic radio structures, e.g., heterodyne reception, homodyne reception, and their improved implementations, are inadequate selections for multi-mode reception. This opens the door to software defined radio, a novel reception architecture which promises ease in multi-band, multi-protocol design. The work presents the many advantages of such an architecture, including flexibility, reduced cost via component reduction, and improved reliability via, e.g., the elimination of environmental instability. The work also explains the limitations that currently curtail the widespread use of SDR, including issues surrounding A/D converters, management of software and power, and clock generation. This provides direction for future research to enable the broad applicability of SDR in 4G cellular and beyond.

  • In this paper, performance on receivers of multilateration (MLAT) system that uses ADS-B signal, which is recently becoming popular, was analyzed to overcome shortcomings of existing aircraft flight control systems or reinforce the capabilities. A link budget was analyzed using a channel model in the airport environment with regard to Local Area Multilateration (LAM) for ground-controlled landing around the airport. In order to detect signals that arrived at the receiver successfully, sensitivity of receiver was analyzed using a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) worksheet, and a method that improves accuracy of the distance measurement was proposed by adopting a peak estimation using sampling signals. Through simulations, optimum specifications of receivers were analyzed to have high precision positioning of LAM, and accuracy of LAM distance measurements was presented.

  • In this paper, Multi Mode Receiver Module is designed in one H/W module for Multi-mode Digital Broadcasting. Multi mode means Digital TV, Mobile TV and Digital Radio on the Broadcasting. and T-DMB, DAB(+), ISDB-T and DVB-T standard. Our Module can receive various broadcasting signal such as ISDB-T, DVB-T and DAB. The Multi mode Receiver Module & demuxer was implemented using the one SoC Chip has good performances to receive the multi mode signals as well as standard interface such as SPI, to connect the main CPU Unit.
