  • This paper describes a coordinated control algorithm for rear-side collision avoidance. In order to assist driver actively and increase driver's safety, the proposed coordinated control algorithm is designed to combine lateral control using a steering torque overlay by Motor Driven Power Steering (MDPS) and differential braking by Vehicle Stability Control (VSC). The main objective of a combined control strategy is twofold. The one is to prevent the collision between the subject vehicle and approaching vehicle in the adjacent lanes. The other is to limit actuator's control inputs and vehicle dynamics to safe values for the assurance of the driver's comfort. In order to achieve these goals, the Lyapunov theory and LMI optimization methods has been employed. The proposed coordinated control algorithm for rear-side collision avoidance has been evaluated via simulation using CarSim and MATLAB/Simulink.

능동 안전장치의 한국 운전자 주행 평가 (Active Safety Features Evaluation with Korean Drivers)

  • A study assessing driver acceptance level for various active safety systems against Korean drivers has been conducted. A 2013 Cadillac ATS model vehicle was tested along southern outskirt of Seoul including local roadway and interurban highway. Active safety systems included were FCA(Forward Collision Alert), LDW(Lane Departure Warning), SBZA(Side Blind Zone Alert), FRPA(Front/Rear Park Assist), RCTA(Rear Cross Traffic Alert), ACC(Adaptive Cruise Control), and AEB(Autonomous Emergency Braking). Participants experienced the FRPA, RCTA and AEB features in a controlled parking lot with a dummy vehicle and traffic cones as target obstacles. Remaining features have been tested on the accumulated stretched of 106 km long urban and interurban roadway. Series of questionnaires corresponding to each active safety systems have been conducted. Tentative results revealed that RCTA and SBZA systems received favourable ratings compared to the other ones.

C-ITS 차량 추돌방지 지원 시스템의 통신 부하를 고려한 도로네트워크 영향 분석 (Analysis of the effect on Road Network with Communication Failure Rate of C-ITS Information System for Rear-end Collision Avoidance)

  • C-ITS 단위 서비스 중 차량 추돌방지 지원 서비스는 위험상황 교통안전을 지원하나, 교통량이 많아 주변에 V2V 통신대상 차량이 많은 경우 V2V 통신부하로 인한 통신 지연 및 실패 가능성이 존재하여 서비스 효용성이 변화할 수 있다. 본 연구는 교통량이 증가하여 혼잡한 도로에서 V2V 통신 과다로 인한 차량 추돌방지 지원 서비스가 실패에 따른 도로 네트워크 영향을 모의실험으로 분석한 정량적 결과를 제시한다. 교통량 조건을 낮은 수준(서비스 수준 A) 높은 수준(서비스 수준 E)까지 변화하며, V2V 통신 실패율을 0%에서 100%까지 극단적인 상황을 포함하여 10% 씩 증가시키면서 차량 추돌방지 지원 서비스 효용성을 잠재상충 발생 건수를 지표로 분석하였다. 분석 결과 차량 1대당 잠재상충 발생 건수가 낮은 교통량 상황 대비 높은 교통량 상황에서 30% 수준 증가하는 것으로 확인되었다. 교통량이 충분히 증가하는 경우 통신 실패율 10% 증가에 따라 잠재상충 발생 건수가 14%씩 증가하는 것으로 분석되었다. C-ITS 단위 서비스 구현을 위한 기존 장비중심의 연구와 더불어 서비스의 효용성을 높일 수 있는 도로교통 운영분야 연구가 병행될 필요가 있음을 제언한다.

가상주행환경에서의 측면 충돌 방지시스템 개발 (Development of Vehicle Side Collision Avoidance System with Virtual Driving Environments)

  • The latest vehicle yields a superior safety and reduction of driving burden by monitoring the driving state of vehicle and its environment with various sensors. To detect other vehicles and objects of the rear left and right-side blind spot area of driver, provide the information about a existence of objects inside the blind spot, and give a signal to avoid collision, this study proposes the intelligent outside rear-view mirror system. This study proposes SILS system with PreScan and Matlab/Simulink to verify practical applicability of developed BSDS. PreScan yields realistic driving environments and road conditions and vehicle model dynamics and collision warning is controlled by Matlab/Simulink.

도로 주행평가를 통한 능동 안전장치 연구 (A Study on the Active Safety Features Assessment through Test Drive)

  • This study examined the drivers' acceptance level of various active safety features with Korean drivers on Seoul urban and city roads. The test vehicle, 2013 Cadillac ATS, was equipped with FCA(Forward Collision Alert), LDW(Lane Departure Warning), SBZA(Side Blind Zone Alert), FRPA(Front/Rear Park Assist), RCTA(Rear Cross Traffic Alert), ACC(Adaptive Cruise Control), and AEB(Autonomous Emergency Braking). Participants had chances to run the tests on those systems in the parking lot accompanied by the 106km long stretch of predetermined route including local road and interurban highway in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do under normal traffic flowing environment. After the test, participants completed a series of questionnaires about the features they experienced. The results revealed that RCTA and SBZA systems received more favourable ratings compared to the other features in avoiding crashes. The respondents preferred sound alerts to haptic ones even though haptic warning methods were better in providing directional information.
