  • In this study, We introduce the process of web usage mining, which has lately attracted considerable attention with the fast diffusion of world wide web, and explain the web log data, which Is the main subject of web usage mining. Also, we illustrate some real examples of analysis for web log data and look into practical application of web usage mining for eCRM.

  • The primary goal of this paper is to develop an evaluation model for Web site design that have substantial effects of the performance of marketing and promotion of goods and services of the company. This paper proposes 3 design aspects such as dosing concepts, usability, and artistic coordination. The model also have tested its applicability to real world examples through an appropriate statistical techniques. Then, the model has been actually applied into 6 typical web sites and their design problems are thoroughly investigated and compared each other. Several web site design guidelines are also proposed for web design practitioners.

Manifestation examples of group creativity in mathematical modeling (수학적 모델링에서 집단창의성 발현사례)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze manifestation examples and effects of group creativity in mathematical modeling and to discuss teaching and learning methods for group creativity. The following two points were examined from the theoretical background. First, we examined the possibility of group activity in mathematical modeling. Second, we examined the meaning and characteristics of group creativity. Six students in the second grade of high school participated in this study in two groups of three each. Mathematical modeling task was "What are your own strategies to prevent or cope with blackouts?". Unit of analysis was the observed types of interaction at each stage of mathematical modeling. Especially, it was confirmed that group creativity can be developed through repetitive occurrences of mutually complementary, conflict-based, metacognitive interactions. The conclusion is as follows. First, examples of mutually complementary interaction, conflict-based interaction, and metacognitive interaction were observed in the real-world inquiry and the factor-finding stage, the simplification stage, and the mathematical model derivation stage, respectively. And the positive effect of group creativity on mathematical modeling were confirmed. Second, example of non interaction was observed, and it was confirmed that there were limitations on students' interaction object and interaction participation, and teacher's failure on appropriate intervention. Third, as teaching learning methods for group creativity, we proposed students' role play and teachers' questioning in the direction of promoting interaction.

  • Application of data mining techniques to the world wide web, referred to as web mining, has been the focus of several recent researches. With the explosive growth of information sources available on the world wide web, it has become increasingly necessary to track and analyze their usage patterns. In this study, we introduce a process of pre-processing and cluster analysis on web log data and suggest a distance measure considering the structural relationships between web contents. Also, we illustrate some real examples of cluster analysis for web log data and look into practical application of web usage mining for eCRM.

Everyday Physical Reasoning by Qualitative Reasoning (정성적 추론을 이용한 일상의 자연 현상에 대한 추론)

  • To develop a cognitive system with the flexibility and breadth of human reasoning, it's very important to construct a large scale knowledge base which includes commonsense knowledge as well as expert knowledge. This paper introduces a cognitive system which provides a commonsense reasoning for everyday physical phenomena using qualitative reasoning. It is difficult to apply previous qualitative reasoning to commonsense reasoning since it provides reasoning based on abstract concepts which are apart from everyday real world concepts. Our research provides commonsense reasoning based on sketches and real world concepts by integrating qualitative reasoning and general large scale Cyc knowledge base. Our system has been implemented and tested on various examples.

  • Adhesives are becoming increasingly accepted for advanced engineering/boding tasks. Therefore the understanding of the basic principles and the benefits of elastic bonding and structural bonding respectively is of utmost importance. Structural bonding means adhesive performance in load-bearing environments. Furthermore. the time to achieve handling strength has an impact on the economics of an assembly line. The paper gives briefly a summary about the fundamentals of elastic bonding and discusses different adhesive systems in the context of handling strength. Understanding of Clinical Trials and Application to the Real Practice (임상시험의 단계별 이해 및 실제)

  • Understanding of a clinical trial is essential in developing clinical guideline and adopting evidence based practice. In designing and executing clinical trials, following ethical requirements should be considered : social value, scientific validity, fair subject selection, informed consent, favorable risk-benefit ratio, institutional review board, and respect for human subjects. According to the stage of drug development, purpose of trials, accumulated scientific data, clinical trials for drug development are classified as phase 1, 2, 3, and 4. Phases of clinical trials can be overlapped and the judgment of entering into the next phase should be considered highly strategically. In reading, evaluating and interpreting clinical trial reports, various skills and challenges exist. Patient sample composition, trial duration, selection of endpoints, responders and non-responders, placebo effect, patient recruitment, and extrapolation to the real world are the examples of those challenges. Treatment success will come from the well balanced approach of evidence based decision making and consideration of specific single case.

Plurality Rule-based Density and Correlation Coefficient-based Clustering for K-NN

  • k-nearest neighbor (K-NN) is a well-known classification algorithm, being feature space-based on nearest-neighbor training examples in machine learning. However, K-NN, as we know, is a lazy learning method. Therefore, if a K-NN-based system very much depends on a huge amount of history data to achieve an accurate prediction result for a particular task, it gradually faces a processing-time performance-degradation problem. We have noticed that many researchers usually contemplate only classification accuracy. But estimation speed also plays an essential role in real-time prediction systems. To compensate for this weakness, this paper proposes correlation coefficient-based clustering (CCC) aimed at upgrading the performance of K-NN by leveraging processing-time speed and plurality rule-based density (PRD) to improve estimation accuracy. For experiments, we used real datasets (on breast cancer, breast tissue, heart, and the iris) from the University of California, Irvine (UCI) machine learning repository. Moreover, real traffic data collected from Ojana Junction, Route 58, Okinawa, Japan, was also utilized to lay bare the efficiency of this method. By using these datasets, we proved better processing-time performance with the new approach by comparing it with classical K-NN. Besides, via experiments on real-world datasets, we compared the prediction accuracy of our approach with density peaks clustering based on K-NN and principal component analysis (DPC-KNN-PCA).

  • In this study, we discussed about the implications of the idealization, which take an important role in physics, to the physics education. First, understanding of the idealization help the physics learning itself. This is because that various types of idealizations are included in the physics terms and concepts, derivation processes of physics laws and formulas, and explanation of natural phenomena and problem solving activities. Second, understanding of the idealization can help the application of the physics world to the real world. That is, by understanding the extent and the limit of idealization used in physics world, physics students can understand the discrepancies between the real world and the physics world. And also, by modifying or eliminating the idealization, students can extend the extent of understanding about how predictions based on the idealization used in the physics world will change. To do this, we suggested the application of computer simulation program in physics laboratories. Third, idealization take an important role in the inquiry learning for students' originality. The activities of identifying or controlling the variables, as one of the principal factors of scientific inquiry, need the appropriate establishment of the ideal conditions. And to analyze the limiting case or practice the thought experiments for understanding the impossible situation in the real world, ideal conditions also are needed. This study discussed above three aspects with various concrete examples and, with Park et al.'s study (Park et al., 1998), present the theoretical basis for the study of students' and teachers' understanding the idealization.
