This paper proposes an optimal control scheme for shaft position control using microcomputer-based state-variable feedback. In this scheme a performance index was set up in order to ruduce the overshoot and improve the steady- state response speed, and the time-variant system parameters were identified in real time for optimal control. As a result of experiment, the over-shoot was not occured and the response speed was improved 2. 9 times about proportional control. This scheme improves the performance against the variation of load and sampling time, and adding the integral control in this scheme can reduce the steady-state error without any change in response time.

All physical systems are nonlinear to some degree. The examples are relay, backlash, deadzone, saturation element and so on. In the linear control system design, it is useful method to restrict the nonlinearity to the linearity of system over the operation range. It is worth noting that nonlinearities may be intentionally introduced in to a system. A simple of an intentional non-linearity is the Bang-Bang controller which uses the On-Off relay. In this paper, an angular position servosystem made of a DC servomotor controlled by a microcomputer is discribed. Authors use two methods in the design of controller. The one is linear controller designed by the optimal feedback control theory only and the other is nonlinear controller designed by On-Off relay with optimal feedback control theory. To do the real time control, the controller is designed by using 16bit personal computer and A/D.D/A converter(12bit) is used in order to convert the signal. According to this way, the results from real time control are as follows. 2) Under the On-Off controller with hysterisis the influence of disturbance is considerably smaller than the linerar controller. 3) An increase in the sampling period has a destabilizing effect. 4)In the controller performance, the response time of the On-Off controller is longer than that of the linear controller. To close, we note that the On-Off controller with hysterisis is more attractive than the linear controller in the presence of the input limit.
Processes in the real-time distributed control systems share a network medium to exchange their data. Performance of feedback control loops in the real-time distributed control systems is subject to the network-induced delays from sensor to controller, and from controller to actuator. The network-induced delays are directly dependent upon the data sampling times of control components which share a network medium. In this study, an algorithm of determining data sampling times is developed using the "window concept". where the sampling datafrom the control components dynamically share a limited number of windows. The scheduling algorithm is validated through the aimulation experiments.
This paper is focussed on the problem of robustly stabilizing a transformable linear time-varying system. The considered system is a class of state feedback transformable linear systems. First, the real linear time-varying system is transformed into the linear time invariant system composed with the time-invariant linear part and the time-varying uncertainty part. Second, the solution to a quadratic stabilization problem in the transformed linear system is give via' Lyapunov methods. Then this solution is used to construct a stabilizing linear control law for the real linear time-varying system.
In this paper, we propose a new technique to the design and real-time control of an adaptive controller for robotic manipulator based on digital signal processors. The Texas Instruments DSPs(TMS320C80) chips are used in implementing real-time adaptive control algorithms to provide enhanced motion control performance for dual-arm robotic manipulators. In the proposed scheme, adaptation laws are derived from model reference adaptive control principle based on the improved Lyapunov second method. The proposed adaptive controller consists of an adaptive feed-forward and feedback controller and time-varying auxiliary controller elements. The proposed control scheme is simple in structure, fast in computation, and suitable for real-time control. Moreover, this scheme does not require any accurate dynamic modeling, nor values of manipulator parameters and payload. Performance of the proposed adaptive controller is illustrated by simulation and experimental results for a dual arm robot manipulator with eight joints. joint space and cartesian space.
This paper presents an $H^{\infty}$ controller design method for linear time-invariant systems with delayed state and control. Using the second method of Lyapunov, the stability for delayed systems is discussed. For delayed systems, we derive a sufficient condition of the bounded real lemma(BRL) which is similar to BRL for nondelayed systems. And the sufficient conditions for the existence of an output feedback $H^{\infty}$ controller of any order are given in terms of three linear matrix inequalities(LMls). Futhermore, we briefly explain how to construct such controllers from the positive definite solutions of their LMIs and give a simple example to illustrate the validity of the proposed design procedure.e.

This paper considers the problem of adaptive fault-tolerant guaranteed cost controller design via dynamic output feedback for a class of linear time-delay systems against actuator faults. A new variable gain controller is established, whose gains are tuned by the designed adaptive laws. More relaxed sufficient conditions are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), compared with the corresponding fault-tolerant controller with fixed gains. A real application example about river pollution process is presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
In this paper, we treat the problem of a robust finite-time dissipative state feedback controller design method for discrete-time singular systems with polytopic uncertainties. A BRL(bounded real lemma) for finite-time stability of discrete-time singular systems is derived. A finite-time dissipative state feedback controller design method satisfying finite-time stability and dissipativity is proposed by LMI(linear matrix inequality) technique on the basis of the obtained BRL. Moreover it is shown that the obtained condition can be extended into polytopic uncertain systems by proper manipulations. Finally, illustrative examples are given to show the applicability of the proposed method.

Synchronous computing models provided by real-time synchrony protocols, such as TTA [1] and PALS [2], greatly simplify the design, implementation, and verification of real-time distributed systems. However, their application to real systems has been limited since their assumptions on underlying systems are hard to satisfy. In particular, most previous real-time synchrony protocols hypothesize the existence of underlying fault tolerant real-time networks. This, however, might not be true in most soft real-time applications. In this paper, we propose a practical approach to a synchrony protocol, called Quality-Aware PALS (qPALS), which provides the benefits of a synchronous computing model in environments where no fault-tolerant real-time network is available. qPALS supports two flexible global synchronization protocols: one tailored for the performance and the other for the correctness of synchronization. Hence, applications can make a negotiation flexibly between performance and correctness. In qPALS, the Quality-of-Service (QoS) on synchronization and consistency is specified in a probabilistic manner, and the specified QoS is supported under dynamic and unpredictable network environments via a control-theoretic approach. Our simulation results show that qPALS supports highly reliable synchronization for critical events while still supporting the efficiency and performance even when the underlying network is not stable.
The time delay in servo control on LonWorks/IP Virtual Device Network (VDN) is highly stochastic in nature. LonWorks/IP VDN induced time delay deteriorates the performance and stability of the real-time distributed control system and hinders an effective preventive and predictive maintenance. Especially in real-time distributed servo applications on the factory floor, timely response is essential for predictive and preventive maintenance. In order to guarantee the stability and performance of the system for effective preventive and predictive maintenance, LonWorks/IP VDN induced time delay needs to be predicted and compensated for. In this paper position control simulation of DC servo motor using Zero Phase Error Tracking Controller (ZPETC) as a feedforward controller, and Internal Model Controllers (IMC) based on Smith predictor with disturbance observer as a feedback controller is performed. The validity of the proposed control scheme is demonstrated by comparing the IMC based on Smith predictor with disturbance observer.
