Purpose: The smartphone is actively being used in many research fields, primarily in medical and diagnostic applications. However, there are cases in which smartphone-based systems have been developed for agriculture, environment, and food applications. The purpose of this review is to summarize the research cases using smartphone cameras in agriculture, environment, and food. Methods: This review introduces seventeen research cases which used smartphone cameras in agriculture, food, water, and soil applications. These were classified as systems involving "smartphone-camera-alone" and "smartphone camera with optical accessories". Results: Detecting food-borne pathogens, analyzing the quality of foods, monitoring water quality and safety, gathering information regarding plant growth or damage, identifying weeds, and measuring soil loss after rain were presented for the smartphone-camera-alone system. Measuring food and water quality and safety, phenotyping seeds, and soil classifications were presented for the smartphone camera with optical accessories. Conclusions: Smartphone cameras were applied in various areas for several purposes. The use of smartphone cameras has advantages regarding high-resolution imaging, manual or auto exposure and focus control, ease of use, portability, image storage, and most importantly, programmability. The studies discussed were achieved by sensitivity improvements of CCDs (charge-coupled devices) and CMOS (complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor) on smartphone cameras and improved computing power of the smartphone, respectively. A smartphone camera-based system can be used with ease, low cost, in near-real-time, and on-site. This review article presents the applications and potential of the smartphone and the smartphone camera used for various purposes in agriculture, environment, and food.

We present a study on the development of a practical and quantitative technique for the assessment of the structural health condition with using piezoceramic(PZT) sensors. The electro-impedance-based technique with the PZT patches is very sensitive for evaluation of the incipient and small damage in a high frequency range, and however the commonly traditional modal analysis method is effective only for considerably larger damages in low frequency range. The paper presents the technique in detecting and characterizing real-time damage on the specimen that is an aluminum plate fastened with bolts and nuts by different torques and as well a plate with a crack. By using the special arrangement of the PZT sensors, the required longitudinal wave is generated through the specimen. A large number of experiments are conducted and the different conditions of the specimens, i.e. the location and extent of loosening bolts, and the plate with a crack are simulated. respectively. Since fixing and loosening the loosened bolt is controlled by a torque wrench, we can control exactly the experiment of the different torques. Compared with the simulated healthy condition, we can find whether or not there is a damage in the specimen with using an impedance analyzer with the PZT sensors. Several indices are discussed and used for assessing the different simulated damages. As for the location of bolt loosening, the RMSD is found to be the most appropriate index for numerical assessment and as well the RMSD shows strongly linear relationship for assessing the extent of the bolt loosening, and the frequency peak shift ${\Delta}F$ is used to assess the cracked plate. The possibility of repeatability of the pristine condition signatures is also presented and the appropriate frequency range and interval are uniquely selected through large numbers of experiments.

Recently as the manufacturers want competitiveness in dynamically changing environment, they are trying a lot of efforts to be efficient with their production systems, which may be achieved by diminishing unplanned operation stops. The operation stops and maintenance cost are known to be significantly decreased by adopting proper maintenance strategy. Therefore, the manufacturers were more getting interested in scheduling of exact maintenance scheduling to keep smooth operation and prevent unexpected stops. In this paper, we proposedan integrated maintenance approach in injection molding manufacturing line. It consists of predictive and preventive maintenance approach. The predictive maintenance uses the statistical process control technique with the real-time data and the preventive maintenance is based on the checking period of machine components or equipment. For the predictive maintenance approach, firstly, we identified components or equipment that are required maintenance, and then machine parameters that are related with the identified components or equipment. Second, we performed regression analysis to select the machine parameters that affect the quality of the manufactured products and are significant to the quality of the products. By this analysis, we can exclude the insignificant parameters from monitoring parameters and focus on the significant parameters. Third, we developed the statistical prediction models for the selected machine parameters. Current models include regression, exponential smoothing and so on. We used these models to decide abnormal patternand to schedule maintenance. Finally, for other components or equipment which is not covered by predictive approach, we adoptedpreventive maintenance approach. To show feasibility we developed an integrated maintenance support system in LabView Watchdog Agent and SQL Server environment and validated our proposed methodology with experimental data.
Accurate knowledge of land use/land cover (LULC) features and their relative changes over upon the time are essential for sustainable urban management. Urban sprawl growth has been always also a worldwide concern that needs to carefully monitor particularly in a developing country where unplanned building constriction has been expanding at a high rate. Recently, remotely sensed imageries with a very high spatial/spectral resolution and state of the art machine learning approaches sent the urban classification and growth monitoring to a higher level. In this research, we classified the Quickbird satellite imagery by object-based image analysis of Dempster-Shafer (OBIA-DS) for the years of 2002 and 2015 at Karbala-Iraq. The real LULC changes including, residential sprawl expansion, amongst these years, were identified via change detection procedure. In accordance with extracted features of LULC and detected trend of urban pattern, the future LULC dynamic was simulated by using land transformation model (LTM) in geospatial information system (GIS) platform. Both classification and prediction stages were successfully validated using ground control points (GCPs) through accuracy assessment metric of Kappa coefficient that indicated 0.87 and 0.91 for 2002 and 2015 classification as well as 0.79 for prediction part. Detail results revealed a substantial growth in building over fifteen years that mostly replaced by agriculture and orchard field. The prediction scenario of LULC sprawl development for 2030 revealed a substantial decline in green and agriculture land as well as an extensive increment in build-up area especially at the countryside of the city without following the residential pattern standard. The proposed method helps urban decision-makers to identify the detail temporal-spatial growth pattern of highly populated cities like Karbala. Additionally, the results of this study can be considered as a probable future map in order to design enough future social services and amenities for the local inhabitants.
Smart HACCP is a system that can check the monitoring of critical control point (CCP) in real time to implement improvement measures immediately after departure from limit criteria and prevent falsification of data by digitizing handwritten records. In this study, we developed the analysis model for the effectiveness ofsmart HACCP to compare and analyze with existing HACCP. By introducing of smart HACCP system, the evaluation index value of HACCP effectiveness for HACCP-certificated companies on a small scale increased by 9.25 points, corresponding to 11.52% of increase rate. General HACCP-certificated companies showed 4.52 point and 5.00% of increase rate by introducing of smart HACCP system. Thus, it was confirmed that the introduction of smart HACCP system contributes to the improvement of food safety management and especially it would be more effective for HACCP-certificated companies on a small scale than general HACCP-certificated companies.
Background: Cell-free DNA circulating in blood is a candidate biomarker for malignant tumors. Unlike uniformly truncated DNA released from apoptotic non diseased cells, DNA released from necrotic cancer cells varies in size. Objectives: To measure the DNA integrity index in serum and the absolute DNA concentration to assess their clinical utility as potential serum biomarkers for colorectal carcinoma (CRC) compared to CEA and CA19-9. Materials and Methods: Fifty patients with CRC, 10 with benign colonic polyps and 20 healthy sex and age matched volunteers, were investigated by real time PCR of ALU repeats (ALU q-PCR) using two sets of primers (115 and 247 bp) amplifying different lengths of DNA fragments. The DNA integrity index was calculated as the ratio of q-PCR results of ALU 247/ALU 115bp. Results: Serum DNA integrity was statistically significantly higher in CRC patients compared to the benign and control groups (p<0.001). ROC curves for differentiating CRC patients from normal controls and benign groups had areas under curves of 0.90 and 0.85 respectively. Conclusions: The DNA integrity index is superior to the absolute DNA concentration as a potential serum biomarker for screening and diagnosis of CRC. It may also serve as an indicator for monitoring the progression of CRC patients. Combining CEA and CA19-9 with either of the genetic markers studied is better than either of them alone.

In order to improve the predictability of marine high-impacts weather such as typhoon and high waves, the marine observation network is an essential because it could be rapidly changed by strong air-sea interaction. In this regard, the National Institute of Meteorological Sciences, Korea Meteorological Administration (NIMS/KMA) has promoted the Argo float observation program since 2001 to participate in the International Argo program. In this study, current status and future direction of the NIMS/KMA Argo program are presented through the internal meeting and external expert forum. To date, a total of 264 Argo floats have been deployed into the offshore around the Korean Peninsula and the Northwestern Pacific Ocean. The real-time and delayed modes quality control (QC) system of Argo data was developed, and an official regional data assembling center (call-sign 'KM') was run. In 2002, the Argo homepage was established for the systematic management and dissemination of Argo data for domestic and international users. The future goal of the NIMS/KMA Argo program is to improve response to the marine high-impacts weather through a marine environment monitoring and observing system. The promotion strategy for this is divided into four areas: strengthening policy communication, developing observation strategies, promoting utilization research, and activating international cooperation.

Things in the IoT(Internet of Things) make various services by exchanging information over networks. The IoT includes many types of WSNs(Wireless Sensor Networks) that consists of spatially distributed wireless sensor nodes and operates with the various purposes with useful technologies such as identification, sensing and communication. Typically, Zigbee network composed of low-cost and lowpower devices is mainly used for wide-area monitoring and remote device control systems. The IoT composed of various WSNs cannot interoperate among networks because of heterogeneous communication protocol and different data representation of each network, but can facilitate interconnection and information exchange among networks via the DDS, which is communication middleware standard that aims to enable real-time, high performance and interoperable data exchanges. In this paper, we proposed design of Zigbee Adaptor for two-way interoperation and data exchange between Zigbee network and other networks in the IoT. Zigbee Adaptor communicates with Zigbee network according to the Zigbee protocol and communicates with external networks via DDS. DDS-based Zigbee Adaptor can facilitate interoperation between a Zigbee network and external networks by systematic cooperation among its components.

The distributing board in directly installed on the ground or the bottom surface of the building, and when vibrations such as earthquakes or external shocks occur, the possibility of damage or malfunction of electric components such as internal power devices, wiring, and protection relays increases. Recently, the need for a seismic type distributing board is increasing, and research and development of a distributing board having a vibration damping function and product launch are being conducted. In this paper, an IoT-based data collection device system capable of measuring vibration and environmental data of distributing board was designed and implemented. When vibration occurred on the distributing board, data was stored and visualized in the MySQL DB through Node-RED for monitoring and data storage using the MQTT protocol for reliable messaging transmission. The test was conducted by attaching the IoT device of the distributing board, and data was collected in real-time and monitored through Node-RED.

This paper proposes the development of an advanced Risk Management System (RMS) using Risk-Based Methodologies (RBM) specifically tailored for addressing construction defects in industrial plants. Urbanization and industrialization demand robust frameworks to handle the complexities and safety concerns in construction projects. Traditional risk management often overlooks critical aspects such as persistent construction defects. This paper discusses the development of an innovative Risk Management System (RMS) that integrates Risk-Based Methodologies (RBM) specifically for construction defect mitigation in industrial settings. The study centers around the implementation of Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) techniques, tailored to enhance traditional risk management systems. This includes developing a specialized risk assessment tool alongside an online management platform, designed to provide continuous monitoring and comprehensive management of construction risks. The proposed system-RBE-i (Risk-Based Execution for Installation)-focuses on identifying, evaluating, and mitigating risks effectively, utilizing a systematic approach that integrates seamlessly into existing construction workflows. The RBE-i system's core lies in its ability to conduct thorough risk analyses and real-time data provision. It uses digital technologies to improve communication, operational efficiency, and decision-making processes across construction projects. By applying these methodologies, the system enhances safety and ensures more efficient project execution by preemptively identifying potential risks and addressing them promptly. Field applications of RBE-i have demonstrated its effectiveness in significantly reducing construction defects, thus validating its potential as a transformative tool in construction risk management. The system sets new industry standards by shifting from reactive to proactive risk management practices, ultimately leading to safer, more reliable, and cost-effective construction operations. In conclusion, the RMS developed through this study not only addresses the pressing needs of construction risk management but also proposes a paradigm shift towards more proactive, structured, and technology-driven practices. The successful integration of the RBE-i system across various pilot projects illustrates its significant potential to improve overall project outcomes, making it an invaluable addition to the field of construction management.
