  • The world health organization classified the emerging coronavirus (known as Covid-19) as a pandemic after confirming the extent of spread and scale. As a matter of fact, outbreaks of similar scale or even worse have been witnessed throughout history. Thus, the development of prevention strategies exists to protect against such calamaties. One of the widely proven measures that controls the spread of any contagious diseases is social distancing. As a result, this paper will demonstrate the concept of an application "Be Aware" on enabling the implementation of this preventive measure. In particular "Be aware" evaluates the extent of congestion in public places using current time data. The proposed project will use Global Positioning System (GPS), and Application Programming Interface (API), to ensure information accuracy, and the API use Crowdsourcing to collect Real-Time Data (RTD) from the selected places. • Owing to the latest changes in the IT environment and the advancement of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology, the RFID technology has been frequently applied to the field of logistics and distribution. Now it is possible to acquire information in real-time more accurately and promptly as compared to data collection in the past, through the application of the RFID technology. However, in terms of the application of the RFID technology, the range of the field of logistics and distribution is considerably widely distributed. The management system that is able to monitor the RFID system installed in logistics centers and stores distributed in environmentally many regions, in real-time in the center is insufficient. Therefore, this study proposes a management system which is capable of transmitting the report of the occurrence of errors according to the pre-defined error types at the time of the occurrence of errors in the RFID system installed at each strategic foothold, in real-time to SMS and to the integrated monitoring system, and of taking actions for those errors from a remote place by using a mobile device. The purpose of the error management system proposed in this study is to minimize a data loss in the supplying network by quickly coping with errors in the area where the RFID system is installed.

  • Online video telephony systems have been increasingly used in several industrial areas because of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) spread. The existing session initiation protocol (SIP)-based video call system is being usefully utilized, however, there is a limitation that it is very inconvenient for users to transmit additional information during conversation to the other party in real time. To overcome this problem, an enhanced scheme is presented based on augmented real-time reality (AR). In this scheme, augmented information is automatically searched from the Internet and displayed on the user's device during video telephony. The proposed approach was qualitatively evaluated by comparing it with other conferencing systems. Furthermore, to evaluate the feasibility of the approach, we implemented a simple network application that can generate SIP call requests and answer with AR object pre-fetching. Using this application, the call setup time was measured and compared between the original SIP and pre-fetching schemes. The advantage of this approach is that it can increase the convenience of a user's mobile phone by providing a way to automatically deliver the required text or images to the receiving side.

  • For real-time applications, the underlying operating system (0S) should support timeliness guarantees of real-time tasks. However, most of current operating systems do not provide timely management facilities in an efficient way. There could be two approaches to support timely management facilities for real-time applications: (1) by modifying 0S kernel and (2) by Providing a middleware without modifying 0S. In our approach, we adopted the middleware approach based on the TMO (Time-triggerred Message-triggered Object) model which is a well-known real-tine object model. The middleware, named TMSOM (TMO Support Middleware) has been implemented on various OSes such as Linux and Windows XP/NT/98. In this paper, we mainly consider TMOSM implemented on Linux(TMOS/Linux). Although the real-time schedul-ing aIgorithm used in current TMOSM/Linux can produce an efficient real-time schedule, it can be improved for periodic real-time tasks by considering several factors. In this paper, we discuss those factors and propose an improved real-time scheduling algorithm for periodic real-time tasks, In order to simulate the performance of our algorithm, we measure timeliness guarantee rate for periodic real-time tasks. The result shows that the performance of our algorithm is superior to that of existing algorithm. Additionally, the proposed algorithm can improve system performance by making the structure of real-time middleware simpler.

  • The most critical element in the real-time operation of RFID application programs that are suitable for the mobile environment is the RFID middleware, made exclusively for mobile handsets, which processes collected data on a real-time basis and sends only the useful information to the application client. In this paper, we intend to design and implement a mobile RFID middleware system that supports the mobile handset environment for real-time based processing of the necessary data in the mobile environment. The proposed mobile RFID middleware system includes a mobile reader interface that collects the tag data, a mobile filtering engine that processes the tag data into more meaningful data that is sent to the application interface, and finally the mobile application interface that supports the m-SOAP application access protocol for interfacing with existing mobile applications. The filtering speed of the newly-developed middleware engine was found to be suitable for the characteristics of mobile handsets.

  • In this paper we propose a technique of implementing the reconfigurable network protocol stack that allows for partitioning network protocol functions into software and hardware tasks on a SoC (System on Chip) platform. Additionally, we present a method that guarantees the deadline of both an individual task and messages exchanging among tasks in order to meet the deadline of real-time multimedia and networking services. The proposed real-time message exchange method guarantees the deadline of messages generated by multimedia services that are required to meet the real-time properties of multimedia applications. After implementing the networking functions of TCP/IP protocol suite into hardware and software tasks, we verify and validate their performance on the SoC platform. Experimental results indicate that the proposed technique improves the performance of TCP/IP protocol suit as well as application service satisfaction in application-specific real-time.

  • To provide technological foundation for periodic and real-time land monitoring over the Korean peninsula where the land cover changes are prevailing, the Land Monitoring Research project was initiated as one of five core projects within the Intelligent National Land Information Technology Innovation Project operated by the Korean Land Spatialization Group (KLSG). This four year project can be categorized into two research themes with nine sub-projects. The first research theme is dealing with the real-time data acquisition from aerial platform and in-situ measurements by ubiquitous sensor network (USN), ground video camera, and automobile-based data collection systems. The second research theme is mainly focused on the development of application systems that can be directly utilized in several public organizations dealing with land monitoring over the nation. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS)-based land monitoring system that is currently under development is one of such application systems designed to provide necessary information regarding the status and condition of land cover in near real-time.

  • Real-time video streaming scheme for multimedia content delivery and remote conference services is one of technologies that are significantly sensitive to data transmission delay. Recently, because of COVID-19, real-time video streaming contents for the services are significantly increased such as personal broadcasting and remote school class. In order to support the services, there is a growing emphasis on low transmission delay and secure content delivery, respectively. Therefore, our research proposed a packet aggregation algorithm to reduce the transmission delay of selectively encrypted video transmission for real-time video streaming services. Through the application of the proposed algorithm, the selectively encrypted video framework can control the amount of MPEG-2 TS packets for low latency transmission with a consideration of packet priorities. Evaluation results on testbed show that the application of the proposed algorithm to the video framework can reduce approximately 11% of the transmission delay for high and low resolution video.

  • Dynamic memory allocators for real-time embedded systems need to fulfill three fundamental requirements: bounded worst-case execution time, fast average execution time, and minimal fragmentation. Since embedded systems generally run continuously during their whole lifetime, fragmentation is one of the most important factors in designing the memory allocator. This paper focuses on minimizing fragmentation while other requirements are still satisfied. To minimize fragmentation, a part of a memory region is segregated by the proposed budgeting method that exploits the memory profile of the given application. The budgeting method can be applied for any existing memory allocators. Experimental results show that the memory efficiency of allocators can be improved by up to 18.85% by using the budgeting method. Its worst-case execution time is analyzed to be bounded.

  • Real-time(RT) object-oriented(00) distributed computing is a form of RT distributed computing realized with a distributed computer system structured in the form of an object network. Several approached proposed in recent years for extending the conventional object structuring scheme to suit RT applications, are briefly reviewed. Then the approach named the TMO(Time-triggered Message-triggered Object) structuring scheme was formulated with the goal of instigating a quantum productivity jump in the design of distributed time triggered simulation. The TMO scheme is intended to facilitate the pursuit of a new paradigm in designing distributed time triggered simulation which is to realize real-time computing with a common and general design style that does not alienate the main-stream computing industry and yet to allow system engineers to confidently produce certifiable distributed time triggered simulation for safety-critical applications. The TMO structuring scheme is a syntactically simple but semantically powerful extension of the conventional object structuring approached and as such, its support tools can be based on various well-established 00 programming languages such as C++ and on ubiquitous commercial RT operating system kernels. The Scheme enables a great reduction of the designers efforts in guaranteeing timely service capabilities of application systems.
