  • Variable message signs (VMS) have the different sizes and a specific type according to the city scene and it has to be displayed by different message on the display panel in real-time. And VMS manufacturers must produce the different products in order to give a customized product to each order. In addition that, they should test and check the correct operation to each VMS product using the different message frame. That is very time and workers consuming and VMS emulator with an automatic variable message generator system is necessary. Also, the automatic message generator system is needed to real-time scheduling in order to display the message on the VMS panel like real world. In this paper, we design and implement the VMS emulator embedded the automatic message frame generator system with real-time scheduling which can set several parameters easily on the windows dialog.

  • This paper proposes the design of a novel distributed message management scheme using a message-oriented management and analysis tool (MOMAT) for naval combat system (NCS) middle-ware. If a message is not guaranteed real-time of the NCS with each node, it causes the loss of data and decreases the reliability of systems. To solve these problems, improved message management schemes are proposed. Message management schemes are considering a real-time user management scheme and a real-time traffic management scheme. The proposed schemes are simulated with a developed simulation tool, data publisher, and subscriber connected through nodes in middle-ware. The simulation results show improved results in terms of message round-trip time (RTT), End-to-End delay, and throughput.

  • This paper deals with the real-time message network system by a CAN (controller area network) based on the real-time distributed control scheme to integrate actuators and sensors in a humanoid robot. In order to apply the real-time distributed processing for a humanoid robot, each control unit should have the real-time efficient control method, fast sensing method, fast calculation and real-time valid data exchange method. Moreover, the data from sensors and encoders must be transmitted to the higher level of control units in maximum time limit. This paper describes the real-time message network system design and the performance of the system.

  • In this paper, we propose the design of railway safety common data model to provide common transformation method for collecting data from railway facility fields to Real-time railway safety monitoring and control system. This common data model is divided into five abstract sub-models according to the characteristics of data such as 'StateInfoMessage', 'ControlMessage', 'RequestMessage', 'ResponseMessage' and 'ExtendedXXXMessage'. This kind of model structure allows diverse heterogeneous data acquisitions and its common conversion method to DDS (Data Distribution Service) format to share data to the sub-systems of Real-time railway safety monitoring and control system. This paper contains the design of common data model and its DDS Topic expression for DDS communication, and presents two kinds of data transformation case studied for verification of the model design.

  • Communication in real-time distributed system should have high reliability. To develop group communication Protocol with high reliability, potential fault should be known and when fault occurs, it should be detected and a necessary action should be taken. Existing detection method by Ack and Time-out is not proper for real time system due to load to Ack which is not received. Therefore, group communication messages from real-time distributed processing systems should be communicated to all receiving processors or ignored by the message itself. This paper can make be sure of transmission of reliable message and deadline by suggesting and experimenting fault detection technique applicable in the real time distributed system based on ring, and analyzing its results. The experiment showed that the shorter the cycle of the heartbeat signal, the shorter the time to propagate the fault detection, which is the time for other nodes to detect the failure of the node.

  • This study presents the performance analysis of real-time orbit determination and prediction for navigation message generation of Regional Navigation Satellite System (RNSS). Since the accuracy of ephemeris and clock correction in navigation message affects the positioning accuracy of the user, it is essential to construct a ground segment that can generate this information precisely when designing a new navigation satellite system. Based on a real-time architecture by an extended Kalman filter, we simulated orbit determination and prediction of RNSS satellites in order to assess the accuracy of orbit and clock prediction and signal-in-space ranging errors (SISRE). As a result of the simulation, the orbit and clock accuracy was at 0.5 m and 2 m levels for 24 hour determination and six hour prediction after the determination, respectively. From the prediction result, we verified that the SISRE of RNSS for six hour prediction was at a 1 m level.

  • Real-time(RT) object-oriented(OO) distributed computing is a form of RT distributed computing realized with a distributed computer system structured in the form of an object network. Several approached proposed in recent years for extending the conventional object structuring scheme to suit RT applications, are briefly reviewed. Then the approach named the TMO(Time-triggered Message-triggered Object)structuring scheme was formulated with the goal of instigating a quantum productivity jump in the design of distributed time triggered simulation. The TMO scheme is intended to facilitate the pursuit of a new paradigm in designing distributed time triggered simulation which is to realize real-time computing with a common and general design style that does not alienate the main-stream computing industry and yet to allow system engineers to confidently produce certifiable distributed time triggered simulation for safety-critical applications. The TMO structuring scheme is a syntactically simple but semantically powerful extension of the conventional object structuring approached and as such, its support tools can be based on various well-established OO programming languages such as C++ and on ubiquitous commercial RT operating system kernels. The Scheme enables a great reduction of the designers efforts in guaranteeing timely service capabilities of application systems. Start after striking space key 2 times.

  • In this paper, an effort has been made to design a Real-time Ship Management System where the status of a ship and its surrounding are constantly monitored and recorded at the base station. Proprietary system message based on overhead and checksum encapsulation has been designed to facilitate the communication. Software encoder and decoder are developed independently for each communication device attached to the system to process the proprietary system message into format by device standard. In addition, few configurations are designed to determine the method of updating the ship status message to the base station, which could be remotely chosen by the administrator.

  • A new dynamic scheduling algorithm is proposed for CAN-based real-time system in this paper. The proposed algorithm is extended from an existing EDS(Earliest Deadline Scheduling) approach having a solution to the priority inversion. Using the proposed algorithm, the available bandwidth of network media can be checked dynamically, and consequently arbitration delay causing the miss of deadline can be avoided. Also, non-real time messages can be processed with their bandwidth allocation. Full network utilization and real-time transmission feasibility can be achieved through the algorithm. To evaluate the performance of algorithm, two simulation tests are performed. The first one is transmission data measurement per minute for periodic messages and the second one is feasibility in the system with both periodic messages and non-real time message.
