  • The Current CORBA has many drawbacks to be deployed successfully in real-time system applications. Recently, OMG adopted Real-Time CORBA specification. In this paper, we report our efforts on an implementation of Priority Model of Real-Time CORBA spec., which is one of the most important components in Real-Time CORBA spec. The improvement of real-time performances of our implementation is verified experiments.

  • An approach to efficient implementation of real-time control systems is presented in this paper. A compiler for translation of control algorithms is used in combination with a general program for real-time control. The compiler translates control algorithms written for the simulation in a design language to an implementation language. The translated algorithms are then automatically incorporated in the real-time control program.

  • Many small-sized real-time kernels do not provide memory management and device drivers, not to mention file management. In this paper, we propose a design and implementation of TCP/IP protocol stack for such small real-time kernels based on [6] where we studied issues to be considered for porting the functionalities of TCP/IP for such small real-time kernels.

  • This paper describes the issues associated with the real-time implementation of G.723.1A dual-rate speech coder on a TMS320VC5402 DSP. Firstly, the main features of the G.723.1A speech coder and the procedure involved in the implementation using assembly and C languages are discussed. Various real-time implementation issues such as memory/MIPS tradeoffs are also presented. For fixed-point implementation, we converted the ITU-T fixed-point ANSI C code into TMS320VC5402 code in the bit-exact way through verification using the test vectors. Finally, as the result of implementation, we present the MIPS and memory requirement for the real-time operation.

  • The SoC and digital technology development recently enabled the emergence of information devices and control devices because the SoC present many advantages such as lower power consumption, greater reliability, and lower cost. It is required to use an embedded operating system for building control systems. So far, the Real-Time operating system is widely used to implement a Real-Time system since it meets developer's requirements. However, Real-Time operating systems reveal a lack of standards, expensive development, and license costs. Embedded Linux is able to overcome these disadvantages. In this paper, the implementation of control system platform using Real-Time Embedded Linux is described. As a control system platform, we use XScale of a Soc and build Real-Time control platform using RTAI and Real-Time device driver. Finally, we address the feasibility study of the Real-Time Embedded Linux as a Real-Time operating system for mobile robots.

  • DSP-based implementation is pervasive in wireless communication parts for systems and handsets according to developing high-speed and low-power programmable Digital Signal Processor (DSP). In this paper, we present a real-time implementation of multi-channel Adaptive Multi-rate (AMR) speech coder. The real-time implementation of an AMR algorithm is achieved using 32-bit fixed-point TMS320C6202 DSP chip that operates at 250 MHz. We performed cross compile, linear assembly optimization and TMS320C62xx assembly optimization for real-time implementation. Furthermore, speech data input/output function and communication function with external CPU is included in an AMR speech coder. The AMR Speech coder developed using DSP EVM board was evaluated in ETRI IMT-2000 Test-bed system.

  • This paper addresses issues associated with the real-time implementation of a wideband speech codec such as ITU-T G. 729. 1 on an ARM processor in order to provide an improved voice quality of a VoWiFi service. The real-time implementation features in optimizing the C-source code of G.729. 1 and replacing several parts of the codec algorithm with faster ones. The performance of the implementation is measured by the CPU time spent for G.729.1 on the ARM926EJ processor that is used for a VoWiFi phone. It is shown from the experiments that the G.729.1 codec works in real-time with better voice quality than G 729 codec that is conventionally used for VoIP or VoWiFi phones.

However, it is nearly impossible to use the SoC without operating systems because the SoC is included with many peripherals and complex architecture. It is required to use embedded operating systems and real-time operating systems may be used as an embedded operating system. So far, real-time operating systems are widely used to implement a Real-Time system since it meets developer's requirements. However, real-time operating systems have disadvantages including a lack of standards, expensive development, and license. Embedded Linux is able to overcome their disadvantages. In this paper, the implementation of control system platform for a mobile robot using real-time Embedded Linux is described. As a control hardware system platform, XScale board is used. As the real-time Embedded Linux, RTAI is adopted which is open source and royalty free, and supports various architectures and real-time devices, such like real-time CAN and real-time COM. This paper shows the implementation of RTAI on XScale board that means the porting procedure. We also applied the control system platform to the mobile robot and compared the Real-Time serial driver with non real-time serial driver. Experimental results show that that using RTAI is useful to build real-time control system with powerful functionalities of Linux.

  • In this paper, the implementation method for the extending real-time execution in MMS Implementation is proposed. For this, the method of MMS over ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) and IEEE 802.12 network is analyzed. By the analysis of service response time, making the ASIC of encoding and decoding parts are proposed for one of the real time extension in MMS. The main goals of this paper to analyze and propose suitable methods to meet the real time requirements in MMS applied system.
