멀티미디어 데이터를 스트림화 하여 서비스하는 일은 인터넷에서 자주 접할 수 있는 서비스이다. 이런 서비스를 네트웍 상황에 맞게 동적으로 조절한다면 사용자에게 더욱 좋은 서비스가 가능하다. 본 논문에서는 멀티미디어 서비스를 보다 효율적으로 제공하기 위해서 네트웍의 상황을 측정하여 전송률을 조절하는 혼잡제어 방법과 적은 네트웍 대역폭에서도 사용자가 멀티미디어 서비스를 받을 수 있도록 하는 Temporal-Fidelity Scaling 기법을 활용하는 시스템 구성을 제안한다.

DMB is a next-generation multimedia broadcasting system that not only enables digital broadcasting services such as transmission of CD-duality audio, traffic information, and real-time stock information, but also allows reception of high-quality digital TV in high-speed driving conditions. In the DMB system, MPEG-2 TS(Transport Stream) multiplex method and MPEG-4 System SL(Sync Layer) have been selected as the delivery layer. In this paper, an efficient interface scheme between an MPEG-2 TS processing hardware and software-implemented MPEG-4 system within a DMB terminal device is proposed.

분산 컴퓨팅 기술의 발전과 네트워크의 고성능화는 대용량의 멀티미디어 데이터를 송.수신 하여 처리 할 수 있게 되었다. 그러나, 실시간 및 이기종간의 데이터 전송에는 네트워크 전송지연과 프로그램 구현의 어려움 등과 같이 극복해야 하는 문제점들이 많다. 본 논문은 객체지향형 분산처리 환경 하에서 OMG가 제시한 멀티미디어 서비스 설계에 RTP(Real-time Transport protocol)통신 프로토콜을 사용하여 오디오나 비디오 등과 같은 실시간 멀티미디어 데이터 처리에 필요한 효율적인 소프트웨어 기반 구조를 설계하였고, 이를 이용한 인터넷 폰 시스템인 Telegent(Telephone Agent: Telegent)를 분산 객체 환경에 맞게 설계하고 구현한 내용을 기술한다.

CSCW 시스템은 효율적인 공동작업의 인지를 위해 텔리포인팅, 스냅샷, 문서/프로젝트 추적등과 같은 기능들을 제공한다. 이 중 텔리포인팅은 지역 시스템의 공유윈도우에서 텔리포인터를 통해 발생한 이벤트를 원격지 시스템의 공유윈도우에 동기적으로 표현하는 기법이다. 텔리포인팅은 여러 연구들에서 응용된 바 있으나, 텔리포인팅의 프로토콜에 관한 연구는 미흡하다. 본 논문은 RTP(Real-Time Transport Protocol) 기반의 텔리포인팅을 위한 RTP 페이로드 형식을 정의한다.

텔리포인팅은 지역 시스템의 공유윈도우에서 텔리포인터를 통해 발생하는 이벤트를 원격지 시스템의 공유윈도우에 동기적으로 표현하는 기법이다. 이러한 텔리포인팅은 다양한 CSCW분야에서 응용되고 있다. 본 논문은 다양한 텔리포인팅의 기능을 제공할 수 있고 응용프로그램에 상관없이 응용이 가능한 텔리포인팅 모듈을 설계하고 구현한다. 텔리포인팅 모듈은 텔리포인팅 이벤트의 송수신을 위해 RTP(Real-Time Transport Protocol)을 사용한다. 구현된 모듈이 잘 동작함을 보이기 위해 다가간의 텔리포인팅을 지원하는 화이트보드를 구현하고 인터넷 상에서 시연하였다.

The software components of embedded control systems get extremely complex as they are designed into distributed systems get extremely complex as they are designed into distributed systems consisting of a large number of inexpensive microcontrollers interconnected by low-bandwidth real-time networks such as the controller area network (CAN). While recently emerging middleware technologies such as CORBA and DCOM address the complexity of distributed programming, they cannot be directly applied to distributed control system design due to their excessive resource demand and inadequate communication models. In this paper, we propose a CORBA-based middleware design for CAN-based distributed embedded control systems. Our design goal is to minimize its resource need and make it support group communication without losing the IDL (interface definition language) level compliance to the OMG standards. To achieve this, we develop a transport protocol on the CAN and a group communication scheme based on the well-known publisher/subscriber model. The protocol effectively realizes subject-based addressing and supports anonymous publisher/subscriber communication. We also customize the method invocation and message passing protocol, referred to as the general inter-ORB protocol (GIOP), of CORBA so that CORBA method invocations are efficiently serviced on a low-bandwidth network such as the CAN. This customization includes packed data encoding and variable-length integer encoding for compact representation of IDL data types. We have implemented our CORBA-based middleware on the mArx real-time operating system we have developed at Seoul National University. Our experiments clearly demonstrate that it is feasible to use CORBA in developing distributed embedded control systems possessing severe resource limitations. Our design clearly demonstrates that it is feasible to use a CORBA-based middleware in developing distributed embedded systems on real-time networks possessing severe resource limitations.

본 논문에서 실시간 비디오 스트림을 효율적으로 전송하기 위한 적응형 부하 조정 기법이 제시된다. 모바일 환경에서 비디오 요청을 하는 클라이언트의 재생 버퍼 수준은 일시적으로 높아지거나 낮아질 수 있다. 제시된 기법은 버퍼 수준이 낮은 클라이언트의 비디오 요청을 먼저 서비스하기 위하여 더 많은 통신망 대역폭을 할당하게 된다. 즉 분산 모바일 시스템에서 재생 버퍼 수준에 따라 통신망 대역폭의 양이 동적으로 할당된다. 제시된 부하 조정 기법은 비디오 재생시 서비스 품질과 실시간적 성능 향상을 위하여 재생시간 전까지 클라이언트에게 성공적으로 전송되는 프레임의 수를 최대화한다. 또한 재생 상황을 더욱 적합하게 유지함으로써 모든 클라이언트들에게 공평한 서비스가 제공될 수 있다. 제시된 부하 조정 기법의 성능은 시뮬레이션을 통하여 다른 정적 부하 조정 기법과 비교 분석되었으며 종료시한내에 성공적으로 전송되는 프레임의 비율이 더 높은 것으로 나타났다.

Thermoelectic properties of the typical thermoelectric host materials, the tellurides and selenides, are known to be noticeably changed by their volume change due to the strain [1]. In the bismuth telluride ($Bi_2Te_3$) crystal, a substitution of rare-earth element by replacing one of the Bi atoms may cause the change of the lattice parameters while remaining the rhombohedral structure of the host material. Using the first-principles approach by the precise full potential linearized augmented plane wave (FLAPW) method [2], we investigated the Ce substitution effect on the thermoelectric transport coefficients for the bismuth telluride, employing Boltzmann's equation in a constant relaxation-time approach fed with the FLAPW wave-functions within the rigid band approximation. Depending on the real process of re-arrangement of atoms in the cell to reach the equilibrium state, $CeBiTe_3$ was found to manifest a metal or a narrow bandgap semiconductor. This feature along with the strong correlation effect originated by the 4f states of Ce affect significantly on the thermoelectric properties. We showed that the position of the strongly localized f-states in energy scale (Fig. 1, f-states are shaded) was found to alter critically the transport properties in this material suggesting an opportunity to improve the thermoelectric efficiency by tuning the external strain which may changing the location of the f-sates.

갈수록 성장하고 있는 LNG 산업에 있어서 안전관리는 필수적인 요소로 자리잡아가고 있다. 이에 따라 기존의 LNG 저장/수송 시설에 대한 안전 관리를 보다 발전시킬 수 있는 것이 필요하며 최근 발전된 IT 산업은 LNG 저장/수송 시설에 대한 통합 안전관리 시스템을 가능케 했다. 위험성 평가/분석 기술, 폭발, 누출 및 확산 모델 구축 기술, 실시간 모니터링 및 이상 진단 기술, Data reconciliation을 통한 공정 정보 신뢰성 향상 기술 등을 집약하며 웹 환경을 통하여 구축될 통합 안전관리 시스템은 LNG 산업의 안전성 향상과 향후 기술 수출에 큰 기여를 할 것이다.
