  • In this paper, control theoretic approaches are proposed to guarantee QoS (Quality of Series) such as packet delay and packet loss of real-time traffic in high-speed communication network. Characteristics of variable rate real-time traÆc in communication networks are described. The mathematical model describing networks including source and destination nodes are suggested. By a traffic control mechanism, it is shown that worst-case end-to-end transfer delay of traffic can be controlled and packet loss can be prevented. The simulation shows results of delay control and buer level control to raise QoS in realtime traffic.

  • This paper describes how to use Profibus networks to support real-time industrial communications, that is, how to ensure the transmission of real-time messages within a maximum bound time. Profibus is based on a simplified timed token protocol, which is a well-proved solution for the real-time communication systems. However, Profibus differs from the timed token protocol, thus the usual timed token protocol has to be modified in order to be applied in Profibus. In fact, the real-time solutions for networks based on the timed token protocol rely on the possibility of allocating specific bandwidth for the real-time traffic. This means that a minimum amount of time to transmit the real-time messages is always guaranteed whenever each token is arrived. In other words, with the Profibus protocol, at least, one real-time message should be transmitted per every token visit in the worst case. It is required to control medium access properly to satisfy the message deadlines. In this paper, we have presented how to obtain the optimal network parameter for the Profibus protocol. The selected network parameter is valid regardless of the behavior of asynchronous messages.

  • 서로 다른 네트워크 환경을 갖는 도메인 사이에서 멀티미디어 서비스를 제공하기 위해서는 여러 가지 측면에 대한 기능 대응이 이루어져야 한다. 본 논문에서는 ATM 기반의 DAVIC(Digital Audio Visual Council) 서비스와 인터넷 AV 서비스를 연동하기 위하여, 프로토콜 변환 및 QoS(Quality of Service) 적응을 지원하는 연동 게이트웨이를 구현하였다. 구현된 연동 게이트웨이는 ATM 망에서 DSM-CC (Digital Storage Media Command & Control)를 기반으로 서비스되는 스트림을 RTSP(Real-Time STreaming Protocol)로 제어할 수 있으며, RTP(Real-Time Transport Protocol)를 이용하여 스트림을 전달한다. 또한 네트워크 대역폭 변화를 고려한 스트림 전달을 위해 QoS 모니터링과 MPEG 필터링을 이용한 QoS 적응 기능을 제공한다.

무선 네트워크에서 실시간 원격제어를 위한 동기화 전송 (Synchronized Transmission for Real-Time Remote Control in the Wireless Network)

  • 최근 무선 네트워크 기반 실시간 원격제어에 대한 관심이 크게 증가하고 있다. 무선 네트워크를 통하여 실시간 원격 제어를 구현하는데 있어서, 중요한 요소들 중 하나가 실시간 제어메시지의 지연시간 성능이다. 특히, 주기적으로 송신되는 실시간 제어메시지의 안정적인 수신을 위해 지연시간 지터를 줄이는 기술이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 실시간 제어메시지를 무선 네트워크에서 운용 하는데 있어서 지연시간 지터를 감소시키는 동기화 전송을 제안한다. 제안된 동기화 전송은 송신노드와 무선통신기 간의 동기화를 바탕으로 적절한 전송시점을 제어하여 실시간 제어메시지가 항상 정해진 시간에 무선 네트워크를 통하여 전송 되도록 한다. 군용무인차량 시스템을 이용한 실험 결과에 따르면, 제안된 동기화 전송은 지연시간 지터를 일반 전송 방식의 지연시간 지터의 32% 수준으로 감소시켰다.

  • 본 논문에서는 비디오 스트림을 실시간에 전송하기 위하여 RTP(Real-Time protocol)을 이용하여 전송 방법에 대해 기술한다. 먼저 비디오 스트림을 연속적으로 전송을 보장하기 위해 네트워크의 종단간 특성을 분석하여 네트워크 상황을 파악하는 방법을 제시하고, 대역폭을 극복하기 위한 버퍼링 기법과 RTCP(Real-Time Control protocol)를 이용하여 데이터의 전송 상환을 분석하여 실시간 멀티미디어 전송의 QoS를 보장하고 연속성을 유지할 수 있는 알고리즘을 제시한다.

  • In this paper, a real-time communication method using a PICNET-NP(Plant Instrumentation and Control Network for Nuclear Power Plant) is proposed with an analysis of the control network requirements of DCS (Distributed Control System) in nuclear power plants. The method satisfies deadline in case of worst data traffics by considering aperiodic and periodic real-time data and others. In addition, the method was used to analyze the data characteristics of the DCS in existing nuclear power plant. The result shows that use of this method meets the response time requirement(100ms).

  • In this paper, a new real-time neural network connection admission controller is proposed. The proposed controller measures traffic flows, cell loss rate and cell delay periodically each classes. The Neural network learns the relation between those measured information and service quality by real-time. Also the proposed controller uses the DWRR multiplexer with buffer dedicated to every traffic source in order to measure the delay that cells experience in buffer. Experimental result shows that the proposed method can control effectively heterogeneous traffic sources with diverse QoS requirement.

  • In this paper, we develop a real-time manufacturing control and information management(POP) system that can support realization of CIM and information network of manufacturing system. The POP system systematically collect informal data that is originated from working area and make an offer collected information to planning side. Especially, this study designs a modular POP terminal that directly extract and process momentary information from field source and provide it to control system on real-time. In addition, we apply developed POP system with open architecture to flexibly and optimally operate the manufacturing system based on CIM.

Real-Time Stochastic Optimum Control of Traffic Signals

  • Traffic congestion has become a serious problem with the recent exponential increase in the number of vehicles. In urban areas, almost all traffic congestion occurs at intersections. One of the ways to solve this problem is road expansion, but it is difficult to realize in urban areas because of the high cost and long construction period. In such cases, traffic signal control is a reasonable method for reducing traffic jams. In an actual situation, the traffic flow changes randomly and its randomness makes the control of traffic signals difficult. A prediction of traffic jams is, therefore, necessary and effective for reducing traffic jams. In addition, an autonomous distributed (stand-alone) point control of each traffic light individually is better than the wide and/or line control of traffic lights from the perspective of real-time control. This paper describes a stochastic optimum control of crossroads and multi-way traffic signals. First, a stochastic model of traffic flows and traffic jams is constructed by using a Bayesian network. Secondly, the probabilistic distributions of the traffic flows are estimated by using a cellular automaton, and then the probabilistic distributions of traffic jams are predicted. Thirdly, optimum traffic signals of crossroads and multi-way intersection are searched by using a modified particle swarm optimization algorithm to realize real-time traffic control. Finally, simulations are carried out to confirm the effectiveness of the real-time stochastic optimum control of traffic signals.

  • A general idea of implementing and managing real-time control on the VDN for rail transit vehicles is presented. In particular, the virtual device network considered in this paper is composed of Ethernet as the data network and LonWorks network as the device (control) network. A LonWorks/IP web server was used as a gateway to realize peer to peer data communication on the virtual device networks. Experimental results are given to validate the suggested architecture.
