Character Segmentation using Side Profile Pattern (측면윤곽 패턴을 이용한 접합 문자 분할 연구)

  • In this paper, a new character segmentation algorithm of machine printed character recognition is proposed. The new approach of the proposed character segmentation algorithm overcomes the weak points of both feature-based approaches and recognition-based approaches in character segmentation. This paper defines side profiles of touching characters. The character segmentation algorithm gives a candidate single character in touching characters by side profiles, without any help of character recognizer. It segments touching characters and decides the candidate single character by side profiles. This paper also defines cutting cost, which makes the proposed character segmentation find an optimal segmenting path. The performance of the proposed character segmentation algorithm in this paper has been obtained using a real envelope reader system, which can recognize addresses in U.S. mail pieces and sort the mail pieces. 3359 mail pieces were tested. The improvement was from $68.92\%\;to\;80.08\%$ by the proposed character segmentation.

  • To construct distance learing servers and provide their service using the WWW(World Wide Web), it is necessary that we use a real-time processing mehtod rather than the processing after downloading method for multimedia data transmission and their processing.To fulfill such requirements, we developed a real-time processing muduloe for distance education which can process multimedia data in AVI and WAV formats in distrbuted eviroments.We in turn developede a real-time WWW server that can provide real-time services of hypertxt and motion poctures data in temsw of adding the real-time porcessing modute to the MuX framework and intergarting them with WWW. We frnally developed as distance lerming system for real-time interactive chinese character learming, bassed on the results from the pre-vious steps.

  • 3D character animation uses the various entertainment factors such as movie, advertisement, game and cyber idol and occupies an important position in video industry. Although character animation makes various productions and real expressions possible, it is difficult to make character like human body without anatomical understanding of human body. Human body anatomy is the basic knowledge which analyzes physical structure anatomically, gives a lot of helps to make character modeling and make physical movement and facial expression delicately when character animation is produced. Therefore this study examines structure and proportion of human body and focuses on character modeling and animation production based on anatomical understanding of human body.

  • This study focuses on the criteria for lessons that develop secondary students' creativity and character in mathematics classes. Literature used in this study is related to the future direction of education (e.g., Core competencies, Information and Communication Technology, Constructivism education) and intent of the revised mathematics curriculum. Lesson criteria for developing students' creativity and character include educational content associated with the real-world contexts, use of tools and resources, active participation and interaction, problem-solving skills, teachers' attitudes, and the classroom environment. This study suggests ways to implement mathematics lessons that build students' creativity and character.

  • GAN (Generative Adversarial Networks) creates highly sophisticated counterfeit products by learning real images or text and inferring commonalities. Therefore, it can be useful in fields that require the creation of large-scale images or graphics. In this paper, we implement GAN-based game character creation AI that can dramatically reduce illustration design work costs by providing expansion and automation of game character image creation. This is very efficient in game development as it allows mass production of various character images at low cost.

Development of Augmented Reality Character System based on Markerless Tracking (마커리스 트래킹 기반 증강현실 캐릭터 시스템 개발)

  • In this study, real-time character navigation using AR lens developed by Nreal is developed. Real-time character navigation is not possible with general marker-based AR because NPC characters must guide while moving in an unspecified space. To replace this, a markerless AR system was developed using Digital Twin technology. Existing markerless AR is operated based on hardware such as GPS, gyroscope, and magnetic sensor, so location accuracy is low and processing time in the system is long, resulting in low reliability in real-time AR environment. In order to solve this problem, using the SLAM technique to construct a space into a 3D object and to construct a markerless AR based on point location, AR can be implemented without any hardware intervention in a real-time AR environment. This real-time AR environment configuration made it possible to implement a navigation system using characters in tourist attractions such as Suncheon Bay Garden and Suncheon Drama Filming Site.

  • Under the ambiguous situation that Id character design aim is not defined, this study would help designers with 1. overcoming the limitation of character form generation ability by establishing visual application system, 2. accepting users'opinions by generating character images dynamically, analysing and giving information on the preferred ones on the web on real time, 3. identifying tendency of preference so that they can generate preferred colors and images in future by updating image combination and dropping low-preferred ones. this system would play a role as an idea or character form generation application in the 3d character design development process

Low-Quality Banknote Serial Number Recognition Based on Deep Neural Network

  • Recognition of banknote serial number is one of the important functions for intelligent banknote counter implementation and can be used for various purposes. However, the previous character recognition method is limited to use due to the font type of the banknote serial number, the variation problem by the solid status, and the recognition speed issue. In this paper, we propose an aspect ratio based character region segmentation and a convolutional neural network (CNN) based banknote serial number recognition method. In order to detect the character region, the character area is determined based on the aspect ratio of each character in the serial number candidate area after the banknote area detection and de-skewing process is performed. Then, we designed and compared four types of CNN models and determined the best model for serial number recognition. Experimental results showed that the recognition accuracy of each character was 99.85%. In addition, it was confirmed that the recognition performance is improved as a result of performing data augmentation. The banknote used in the experiment is Indian rupee, which is badly soiled and the font of characters is unusual, therefore it can be regarded to have good performance. Recognition speed was also enough to run in real time on a device that counts 800 banknotes per minute.

  • The purpose of this study is to use films character education lessons to be enabled. For this study an experiment was conducted with students to character education lessons in the University of Baekseok. It was to observe whether the student's satisfaction with the questionnaire in the last lesson of character education. Observations of character education with film are very effective for University students. Therefore, this paper is to share the following results. First, this study is a model of teaching character education through film that would be proposed. Second, using film character education lessons will be conducted in a real university. Thus, the satisfaction of students will be examined. Third, using film to demonstrate the effectiveness of character education classes would be. Finally, the use of film in teaching character education curriculum according to the character would be proposed.
