This paper develops an algorithm to determine the batch size of the batch process in real time for improving production and efficient control of production system with multiple processes and batch processes. It is so important to find the batch size of the batch process, because the variability arising from the batch process in the production system affects the capacity of the production. Specifically, batch size could change system efficiency such as throughput, WIP (Work In Process) in production system, batch formation time and so on. In order to improve the system variability and productivity, real time batch size determined by considering the preparation time and batch formation time according to the number of operation of the batch process. The purpose of the study is to control the WIP by applying CONWIP production system method in the production line and implements an algorithm for a real time batch size decision in a batch process that requires long work preparation time and affects system efficiency. In order to verify the efficiency of the developed algorithm that determine the batch size in a real time, an existed production system with fixed the batch size will be implemented first and determines that batch size in real time considering WIP in queue and average lead time in the current system. To comparing the efficiency of a system with a fixed batch size and a system that determines a batch size in real time, the results are analyzed using three evaluation indexes of lead time, throughput, and average WIP of the queue.
The overhead of processing fine-grain tasks on a grid induces the need for batch processing or task group deployment in order to minimise overall application turnaround time. When deciding the granularity of a batch, the processing requirements of each task should be considered as well as the utilisation constraints of the interconnecting network and the designated resources. However, the dynamic nature of a grid requires the batch size to be adaptable to the latest grid status. In this paper, we describe the policies and the specific techniques involved in the batch resizing process. We explain the nuts and bolts of these techniques in order to maximise the resulting benefits of batch processing. We conduct experiments to determine the nature of the policies and techniques in response to a real grid environment. The techniques are further investigated to highlight the important parameters for obtaining the appropriate task granularity for a grid resource.
This paper considers a scheduling problem where a customer orders multiple products(jobs) from a production facility. The objective is to minimize the sum of the order(batch) completion times. While a machine can process only one job at a time, multiple machines can simultaneously process jobs in a batch. Although each job has a unique processing time, we consider the case where batch processing times are identical. This simplification allows us to develop heuristics with improved performance bounds. This problem was motivated by a real world problem encountered by foreign electronics manufacturers. We first establish the complexity of the problem. For the two parallel machine case, we introduce two simple but intuitive heuristics, and find their worst case relative error bounds. One bound is tight and the other bound goes to 1 as the number of orders goes to infinity. However, neither heuristic is superior for all instances. We extend one of the heuristics to an arbitrary number of parallel machines. For a fixed number of parallel machines, we find a worst case bound which goes to 1 as the number of orders goes to infinity. Then, a tighter bound is found for the three parallel machine case. Finally, the heuristics are empirically evaluated.
This paper deals with a scheduling problem for two-machine flow shop, in which the preceding machine is a batch processing machine that can process a number of jobs simultaneously. To minimize makespan of the system, we present a mixed integer linear programming formulation for the problem, and using this formulation, it is shown that an optimal solution for small problem can be obtained by a commercial optimization software. However, since the problem is NP-hard and the size of a real problem is very large, we propose a number of heuristic algorithms including genetic algorithm to solve practical big-sized problems in a reasonable computational time. To verify performances of the algorithms, we compare them with lower bound for the problem. From the results of these computational experiments, some of the heuristic algorithms show very good performances for the problem.
A number of plating companies have been exposed to the risk of fire due to unexpected temperature increasing of water in a plating bath. Since the companies are not able to forecast the unexpected temperature increasing of water and most of raw materials in the plating process have low ignition temperature, it is easy to be exposed to the risk of fire. Thus, the companies have to notice the changes immediately to prevent the risk of fire from plating process. Due to this reason, an agile and systematic temperature monitoring system is required for the plating companies. Unfortunately, in case of small size companies, it is hard to purchase a systematic solution and be offered consulting from one of the risk management consulting companies due to an expensive cost. In addition, most of the companies have insufficient research and development (R&D) experts to autonomously develop the risk management solution. In this article, we developed a real time remote temperature monitoring system which is easy to operate with a lower cost. The system is constructed by using Raspberry Pi single board computer and Android application to release an economic issue for the small sized plating manufacturing companies. The derived system is able to monitor the temperature continuously with tracking the temperature in the batch in a short time and transmit a push-alarm to a target-device located in a remoted area when the temperature exceeds a certain hazardous-temperature level. Therefore, the target small plating company achieves a risk management system with a small cost.
The lifetime of the electrode is one of the most important factors on the stability of the electrode. Since the lifetime of the DSA (Dimensionally stable anode) electrode is long, an accelerated lifetime test is required to reduce the test time. Beacuse there is no basis or standard method for accelerated lifetime testing, many researchers use different methods. Therefore, there is a need for basis and methods for accelerated lifetime testing that other researchers can follow. We designed a reactor system for accelerated lifetime testing and planned specific methods. Reactor system was circulating batch reactor. 복잡하고 비선형적인 특징을 갖는 시계열 데이터를 예측하기 위해 딥러닝 기법이 널리 사용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 최근에 개발된 WaveNet을 개선하고 워크포워드 검증 기법을 적용하여 전력 소비량 데이터를 24시간 이전에 예측하고자 한다. 원래 WaveNet은 오디오 데이터 예측에 사용하고자 고안되었으며, 장기간의 데이터를 효과적으로 예측하기 위해 1차원 팽창인과 합성곱(1D dilated causal convolution)을 사용한다. 먼저, WaveNet이 부호화된 정수 값이 아니라 실수 값을 출력하여 전력 데이터를 예측하기 적합하도록 개선하였다. 다음으로 학습 과정에 적용된 하이퍼파라미터(입력 기간, 배치 크기, WaveNet 블록 개수, 팽창 비율, 학습률 변경)를 조정하여 적절한 성능을 나타내도록 하였다. 마지막으로 성능 평가를 통해 전통적인 홀드아웃 검증 기법보다 본 연구에서 사용한 워크포워드 검증 기법이 전력 소비량 데이터 예측에 우수함 성능을 나타냄을 확인하였다.
Results will be presented from two field studies that evaluated the in-situ treatment of chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons (CAHs) using aerobic cometabolism. In the first study, a cometabolic air sparging (CAS) demonstration was conducted at McClellan Air Force Base (AFB), California, to treat chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons (CAHs) in groundwater using propane as the cometabolic substrate. A propane-biostimulated zone was sparged with a propane/air mixture and a control zone was sparged with air alone. Propane-utilizers were effectively stimulated in the saturated zone with repeated intermediate sparging of propane and air. Propane delivery, however, was not uniform, with propane mainly observed in down-gradient observation wells. Trichloroethene (TCE), cis-1, 2-dichloroethene (c-DCE), and dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration levels decreased in proportion with propane usage, with c-DCE decreasing more rapidly than TCE. The more rapid removal of c-DCE indicated biotransformation and not just physical removal by stripping. Propane utilization rates and rates of CAH removal slowed after three to four months of repeated propane additions, which coincided with tile depletion of nitrogen (as nitrate). Ammonia was then added to the propane/air mixture as a nitrogen source. After a six-month period between propane additions, rapid propane-utilization was observed. Nitrate was present due to groundwater flow into the treatment zone and/or by the oxidation of tile previously injected ammonia. The wall shear stress in the vicinity of end-to end anastomoses under steady flow conditions was measured using a flush-mounted hot-film anemometer(FMHFA) probe. The experimental measurements were in good agreement with numerical results except in flow with low Reynolds numbers. The wall shear stress increased proximal to the anastomosis in flow from the Penrose tubing (simulating an artery) to the PTFE: graft. In flow from the PTFE graft to the Penrose tubing, low wall shear stress was observed distal to the anastomosis. Abnormal distributions of wall shear stress in the vicinity of the anastomosis, resulting from the compliance mismatch between the graft and the host artery, might be an important factor of ANFH formation and the graft failure.
