  • In the modern society, the extreme weather caused by climate change has brought about exceptional damage in succession over the world due to the use of fossil fuels, and infectious diseases such as COVID-19 worsen the quality of human life. It is urgently necessary to reduce green-house gas and use new renewable energy. The global environmental pollution should be decreased by reducing the use of fossil fuels and using new renewable energy. This paper suggests a system which can function for the environment of four seasons, safety and communication, through the photovoltaic power-based intelligent CCTV, internet and WiFi, and cooling and heating systems, and can optimally manage power, through the real-time monitoring of the production and the consumption of the photovoltaic power. It suggests a hybrid generation system supporting diesel generation without discontinuation in the case of emergency such as system power outage caused by cold waves, typhoons and natural disasters in which the photovoltaic power generating system cannot be used.

  • The deteriorated pipline often causes the unexpected leakage and crack. Negligence and late maintenance leads the enormous damage for gas and water resource. This paper proposes early fault detection and diagnosis algorithm for pipeline using acoustic emission (AE) signals. Early fault detection method for pipeline compares the frequency amplitude of the spectrum to that of the spectrum in normal condition. Larger amplitude of the spectrum indicates abnormal condition. Early fault diagnosis algorithm uses support vector machines (SVM), which is trained for normal and abnormal conditions to diagnose the measured AE signal from the target pipeline. In the experiment, a pipeline testbed is constructed similarly to real industrial pipeline. Normal, 5mm cracked, 10mm holed pipelines are installed and tested in this study. The proposed fault detection and diagnosis technique is validated as an efficient approach to detect early faulty condition of pipeline.

  • During the winter season, when electricity usage increases rapidly every year, fires are frequent due to short circuits in aging electrical facilities in multi-use facilities such as traditional markets and jjimjilbangs, apartments, and multi-family houses. Most of the causes of such fires are caused by excessive loads applied to aging wires, causing the wire covering to melt and being transferred to surrounding ignition materials. In this study, we implement a system that measures the overload and overheating of the wire through a composite sensor, detects the toxic gas generated there, and logs it to the server through the gateway. Based on this, we will develop a platform that can predict, alarm and block electric fires in real time through big data analysis, and a simulator that can simulate fire occurrence experiments.

  • The electric propulsion development is underway to minimize pollutants and greenhous gas emissions during the operation of ships / offshore installation vessels. The importance of the use and efficient management of batteries, which is an ESS system in ships / offshore installation vessels, is increasing. Generally, in ESS where battery is applied, cell balancing and life span are monitored in real time by BMS. Ships / offshore installation vessel are equipped with several ESS rooms, and ESS rooms with ESS systems of the same specification are being constructed due to the recent demand for electric propulsion development. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to additionally predict and diagnose battery pack and cell balancing failures by comparing BMS data for each rooms. The proposed algorithm compares the BMS data of each ESS Room according to the environmental change of the ship / offshore installation vessels, measures accurate status information, and reliably monitors it to prevent accidents in advance.

  • As the Fourth Industrial Revolution accelerating, countries worldwide are developing technologies to digitize and automate various industrial sectors. Building smart factories not only reduces costs through improved process productivity but also allows for preemptive identification and removal of risk factors through the practice of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) management, thereby reducing industrial accident risks. In this study, we visualized pressure, temperature, power, and wind speed data measured in real-time via a monitoring GUI, enabling field managers and workers to easily access related information. Through the work environment monitoring system developed in this study, it is possible to conduct economic analysis on per-unit basis, based on the digitization of production management elements and the tracking of required resources. By implementing HSE in shipyards, potential risk factors can be improved, and gas and electrical leaks can be identified, which are expected to reduce production costs.

  • This study was conducted to improve energy efficiency and problems such as clumping and fouling in the glue zone that occur in the moisture content range of 40 to 60% when sewage dehydration residue is directly fed into the dryer. The temperature of the hot air is low at 270~300℃, and the paddle-type flotation method and dehydrated residue are applied to the circulated heat storage media to increase the contact area with the hot air, thereby reducing energy recovery and gas emissions. The water content of the dried residue is 2.7. ~7 .5%, the heat of evaporation of moisture was 608.0~690.6 kcal/kg·H2O, which confirmed an energy saving effect of about 8.8% compared to the heat of evaporation of moisture of 714.5 kcal/kg·H2O when no heat storage media was used.

  • Insect pests are a significant threat to stored crops and can lead to considerable economic losses and reduced crop quality. Traditional pest control methods often involve chemical treatments, which have adverse environmental and health effects. This study evaluated the effectiveness of controlling the environment using LED lighting and plant-derived odor barriers as a dual strategy for insect pest control. The storage environment was altered using LED lights that emitted specific wavelengths (580-585 nm) and by reducing other wavelengths (300-500 nm). This light environment was combined with an insect odor barrier derived from Cinnamomum verum, Illicium verum, and Artemisia annua, and their duel impact on the behavior and frequency of insect pests under real storage conditions was determined. The findings revealed significant changes in the frequencies of various insect orders, indicating differential responses to light wavelengths and odor barriers. Notably, the introduction of an anti-insect light and odor barrier environment reduced Diptera and Hemiptera frequencies, which could potentially reduce pest intrusion. The results underscore the potential use of integrated light and odor barriers as a noninvasive and environmentally friendly approach to pest management. This study identifies the specific wavelengths and odor combinations that effectively deter insect pests and contribute to the development of more efficient and sustainable pest control methods. It also highlights the importance of understanding insect behavior and frequency changes in response to novel deterrent strategies.

  • Nitrogen oxides(NOx) in coal-fired power plants are significant contributors to air pollution, influencing the formation of ozone and fine particulate matter, thereby adversely affecting health. Therefore, accurate prediction of NOx emissions is essential. Existing researches have mainly performed based on off-line learning methods, leading to poor prediction performance with the limited training dataset. This paper proposes the online learning model of online support vector regression to predict NOx emissions from coal-fired power plants. Online learning model, which updates a model whenever new observations come out, demonstrates high prediction accuracy even when initial data is scarce. The experimental results showed that the performance of online learning prediction was better than existing off-line learning methods. The results indicated online learning method is a valuable tool for predicting NOx emissions, especially in situations where initial data is limited and data is continuously updated in real-time.

  • In 2014, on 31 August and 1 September, the emissions of $CH_4$, $CO_2$, and $O_2$ gases were measured six times using the closed chamber method from exposed tidal flat sediments in the same position relative to the low point of the tidal cycle in the Eoeun-ri, Taean-gun, on the Mid-western Coast of Korea. The concentrations of $CH_4$ in the air sample collected in the chamber were measured using gas chromatography with an EG analyzer, model GS-23, within 6 hours of collection, and the other gases were measured in real time using a multi-gas monitor. The gas emission fluxes (source (+), and sink (-)) were calculated from a simple linear regression analysis of the changes in the concentrations over time. In order to see the surrounding parameters (water content, temperature, total organic carbon, average mean size of sediments, and the temperature of the inner chamber) were measured at the study site. On the first day, across three measurements during 5 hours 20 minutes, the observed $CO_2$ flux absorption was -137.00 to $-81.73mg/m^2/hr$, and the $O_2$ absorption, measured simultaneously, was -0.03 to $0.00mg/m^2/hr$. On the second day using an identical number of measurements, the $CO_2$ absorption was -20.43 to $-2.11mg/m^2/hr$, and the $O_2$ absorption -0.18 to $-0.14mg/m^2/hr$. The $CH_4$ absorption before low tide was $-0.02mg/m^2/hr$ (first day, Pearson correlation coefficient using the SPSS statistical analysis is -0.555(n=5, p=0.332, pronounced negative linear relationship)), and $-0.15mg/m^2/hr$ (second day, -0.915(n=5, p=0.030, strong negative linear relationship)) on both measurement days. The emitted flux after low tide on both measurement days reached a minimum of $+0.00mg/m^2/hr$ (+0.713(n=5, p=0.176, linear relationship which can be almost ignored)), and a maximum of $+0.03mg/m^2/hr$ (+0.194(n=5, p=0.754, weak positive linear relationship)) after low tide. However, the absolute values of the $CH_4$ fluxes were analyzed at different times. These results suggest that rate for $CH_4$ fluxes, even the same time and area, were influenced by changes in the tidal cycle characteristics of surface sediments for understanding their correlation with these gas emissions, and surrounding parameters such as physiochemical sediments conditions.
