Genetic Algorithm for Identification of Time Delay Systems from Step Responses

  • In this paper, a real-coded genetic algorithm is proposed for identification of time delay systems from step responses. FOPDT(First-Order Plus Dead-Time) and SOPDT(Second-Order Plus Dead-Time) systems, which are the most useful processes in this field, but are difficult for system identification because of a long dead-time problem and a model mismatch problem. Genetic algorithms have been successfully applied to a variety of complex optimization problems where other techniques have often failed. Thus, the modified crossover operator of a real-code genetic algorithm is proposed to effectively search the system parameters. The proposed method, using a real-coding genetic algorithm, shows better performance characteristics when compared to the usual area-based identification method and the directed identification method that uses step responses.

  • In this paper, we present a new approach based on an elitist genetic algorithm for the task of aligning the position of a robot gripper using CCD cameras. The vision-based control scheme for the task of aligning the gripper with the desired position is implemented by image information. The relationship between the camera space location and the robot joint coordinates is estimated using a camera-space parameter modal that generalizes known manipulator kinematics to accommodate unknown relative camera position and orientation. To find the joint angles of a robot manipulator for reaching the target position in the image space, we apply an elitist genetic algorithm instead of a nonlinear least square error method. Since GA employs parallel search, it has good performance in solving optimization problems. In order to improve convergence speed, the real coding method and geometry constraint conditions are used. Experiments are carried out to exhibit the effectiveness of vision-based control using an elitist genetic algorithm with a real coding method.

  • FOPDT(First-Order Plus Dead-Time) and SOPDT(Second-Order Plus Dead-Time) process, which are used as the most useful process in industry, are difficult about process identification because of the long dead-time problem and the model mismatch problem. Thus, the accuracy of process identification is the most important problem in FOPDT and SOPDT process control. In this paper, we proposed the real-coded genetic algorithm for identification of FOPDT and SOPDT processes. The proposed method using real-coding genetic algorithm shows better performance characteristic comparing with the existing an area-based identification method and a directed identification method that use step-test responses. The proposed strategy obtained useful result through a number of simulation examples.

  • The purposes of this study are to develop the real coding genetic algorithm and to obtain the shape optimization of a cable domes by using this scheme. Generally, the structural performance of the cable dome is influenced very sensitively by prestress, geometry and length of the mast because of flexible structures. So, it is very important to decide the optimum shape to get maximum stiffness of cable domes. We use the two models to verify the usefulness of this algorithm for shape optimization and analyze the roof system of Seoul olympic gymnastic arena as one analytical model of practical structures

  • The purpose of this study is to obtain the optimum shape of cable domes by using the real coding genetic algorithm. Generally, the structural performance of the cable domes is influenced very sensitively by pre-stress, geometry and length of the mast because of flexible system. So, it is very important to decide the optimum shape to get maximum stiffness of cable domes. We use the analytical model to verify the usefulness of this algorithm for shape optimization and analyze the roof system of Seoul olympic gymnastic arena as analytical model of a practical structures. It is confirmed lastly that the optimum shape domes have more stiffness than initial shape ones.

  • The common shortest path problem is to find the shortest route between two specified nodes in a transportation network with only one traffic mode. The public transportation network with multiple traffic mode is a more realistic representation of the transportation system in the real world, but it is difficult for the conventional shortest path algorithms to deal with. The genetic algorithm (GA) is applied to solve this problem. The objective function is to minimize the sum of total service time and total transfer time. The individual description, the coding rule and the genetic operators are proposed for this problem.

  • 모델 예측 제어 시스템은 이동 제어 구간에서 원하는 출력과 예측된 출력의 차이를 최소화하는 현재의 제어 입력을 적용하는 방식을 사용한다. 제약조건이 있는 경우이거나 비선형 시스템 문제의 경우는 주어진 함수를 최소화하는 최적화 문제를 풀기가 힘들다. 본 논문에서는 모델 예측 제어 시스템의 최적화 문제를 실수 코딩 유전 알고리즘을 이용하여 효율적으로 구할 수 있음을 보인다. 또한 실수코딩 유전알고리즘이 여러 가지 면에서 디지털코딩 유전알고리즘보다 더 자연스럽고 유리함을 모의실험을 통해 보인다.

  • Recently, a multi facility, multi product and multi period industrial problem has been widely investigated in Supply Chain Network(SCN). One of keys issues in the current SCN research area involves minimizing both production and distribution costs. This study deals with finding an optimal solution for minimizing the total cost of production and distribution problems in supply chain network. First, we presented an integrated mathematical model that satisfies the minimum cost in the supply chain. To solve the presented mathematical model, we used a genetic algorithm with an excellent searching ability for complicated solution space. To represent the given model effectively, the matrix based real-number coding schema is used. The difference rate of the objective function value for the termination condition is applied. Computational experimental results show that the real size problems we encountered can be solved within a reasonable time.

이산 설계변수를 포함하고 있는 자동차용 휠 베어링 유닛의 설계방법 (Design Methodology of Automotive Wheel Bearing Unit with Discrete Design Variables)

  • In order to improve the efficiency of the design process and the quality of the resulting design, this study proposes a design method for determining design variables of an automotive wheel-bearing unit of double-row angular-contact ball bearing type by using a genetic algorithm. The desired performance of the wheel-bearing unit is to maximize system life while satisfying geometrical and operational constraints without enlarging mounting spae. The use of gradient-based optimization methods for the design of the unit is restricted because this design problem is characterized by the presence of discrete design variables such as the number of balls and standard ball diameter. Therefore, the design problem of rolling element bearings is a constrained discrete optimization problem. A genetic algorithm using real coding and dynamic mutation rate is used to efficiently find the optimum discrete design values. To effectively deal with the design constraints, a ranking method is suggested for constructing a fitness function in the genetic algorithm. A computer program is developed and applied to the design of a real wheel-bearing unit model to evaluate the proposed design method. Optimum design results demonstrate the effectiveness of the design method suggested in this study by showing that the system life of an optimally designed wheel-bearing unit is enhanced in comparison with that of the current design without any constraint violations.

  • This paper presents a method for optimal dispatch which minimizes transmission losses and improves voltage profile of power systems using genetic algorithm based on the mechanism of natural genetics and natural selection. The constraints are VAR sources(transformer tap, generator voltage magnitude and shunt capacitor/reactor), load bus voltages and generator reactive power. Real variable-based genetic algorithms which can save coding times and maintain the accuracy are applied for optimal dispatch of reactive power. The genes of genetic algorithm consisted of integers for considering discrete VAR sources. A efficient operator for crossover is proposed to consider the effect of close genes. The algorithm proposed can apply to problems for large scale power systems with multi-variables and complex nonlinear functions efficiently. The proposed method is applied to IEEE 30 buses model system to show its effectiveness.
