임베디드 환경에서의 실시간 립리딩 시스템 구현 (Real Time Lip Reading System Implementation in Embedded Environment)

  • 본 논문은 임베디드 환경에서의 실시간 립리딩 방법을 제안한다. 기존 PC 환경에 비하여 임베디드 환경은 사용할 수 있는 자원이 제한적이므로, 기존 PC 환경의 립리딩 시스템을 임베디드 환경에서 실시간으로 구동하기는 어렵다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 본 논문은 임베디드 환경에 적합한 입술영역 검출 방법과 입술 특징추출 방법, 그리고 발성 단어 인식 방법을 제안한다. 먼저 정확한 입술영역을 찾기 위해 얼굴 색상정보를 이용해 얼굴영역을 검출하고 검출된 얼굴 영역에서 양쪽 두 눈의 위치를 찾아 기하학적 관계를 이용해 정확한 입술영역을 검출한다. 검출된 입술영역에서 주위 환경 변화에 따른 조명 변화에 강인한 특징을 추출하기위해 히스토그램 매칭과 입술 폴딩, RASTA 필터를 적용하고 주성분 분석(PCA)을 이용한 특징계수를 추출해 인식에 사용하였다. 실험결과 CPU 806Mhz, RAM 128MB 사양의 임베디드 환경에서 발성 단어에 따라 1.15초에서 2.35초까지의 처리 속도를 보였으며, 180개의 단어 중 139개의 단어를 인식해 77%의 인식률을 얻을 수 있었다.

영아기 가정의 책읽기 경험과 지능발달 : 종단연구 (Picture Book Reading Practices with Very Young Children and their Intellectual Development : A Longitudinal Study)

  • This longitudinal study examined picture book reading practices with very young children and its influence on early intellectual development. The home picture book reading activities of 322 infants and their mothers were assessed by questionnaire every 6 months from 18 months till 42 months of age. Infants' IQ was measured with Korean-Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence(Park et al., 1996) at 42 months. Results showed that monthly book expense (r=.28, p<.01) and infants' asking for reading (r=.14, p<.05) at 18 months were positively correlated with IQ at 42 months. Reading time between 24 and 42 months correlated positively with IQ(r=.17~.34, p<.01). These results reveal the importance of early book environment and actual reading time in the intellectual development of very young children.

Reading Strategies among Saudi EFL Students

  • This study was initially conducted to explore Saudi students' use of reading strategies and their relationship to their reading comprehension level. The study employed quantitative methods to obtain information about Saudi students' perceived use of reading strategies and their comprehension levels. The results showed that EFL learners in Saudi Arabia use planning strategies more than attending strategies and evaluating strategies. Saudi students also perceived the environment as the most critical factor affecting their reading comprehension. There was no significant relationship between Saudi EFL learners' comprehension level and their use of reading strategies. Finally, gender differences favoring female learners were evident in almost all analyses conducted in the current study. Significant differences were found favoring female students in overall strategy use, comprehension level, and the use of evaluating strategies.

  • 본 연구는 미래 사회에서 개인의 독서활동이 어떠한 방향으로 나아가야 할 것인가에 대한 방향을 제시하고, 매체 환경의 변화에 대한 적극적인 대응법으로 효과적인 독서 생활을 위한 정보 독해능력과 웹 3.0 개념의 이해와 특성을 바탕으로 한 "웹 기반 독서전략 모형"을 개발하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 본 연구에서는 웹 플랫폼을 기반으로 한 6개의 독서전략 모형을 개발하였다. 이 6개의 독서전략은, 초인지 전략, 정보검색전략, 개인화 전략, 읽기 전략, 쓰기 전략, 그리고 해석 전략이다.

Reading Habits and Library Use among Students in Colleges of Education in Ghana: A Case of Two Colleges of Education, Ghana

  • This paper presents the outcome of a survey done in two colleges of education in Kumasi, Ghana to determine the reading habits of students. A questionnaire was conveniently administered to the third-year students of Wesley College of Education and St. Louis College of Education all in Kumasi the capital of Ashanti Region of Ghana. One hundred and sixty-two copies of the questionnaire were administered to the students in the two colleges. The study found that both parents and tutors influence students reading at the same rate, in both colleges students read an average of one book in two months which was not encouraging with the most preferred reading materials being course books followed by textbooks and fiction. Their purpose of reading is to broaden their knowledge, and to pass examination. They choose busy schedule on campus and too much academic work as the reasons which affect their reading habits. Furthermore, it was revealed that, too much family responsibilities and lack of conducive environment were major constraints that restrict their reading at home. The study recommends the following to enhance reading habits of the students: parents should create healthy surrounding for learning; students should also be motivated to read through the formation of reading clubs and group presentation of assignment.

학교도서관 운영 인력이 학생들의 독서행태에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of School Library Personnel on Students' Reading Behaviors in Korea)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 학교도서관 운영 인력이 학생들의 독서행태에 어떠한 영향을 미치고 있는지를 확인하고, 학생들의 독서행태에 대한 학교간의 차이를 확인하는 것이다. 이를 위해 이 연구는 전국 154개교의 초, 중, 고등학생 5,349명을 대상으로 독서환경, 학교도서관, DLS와 관련된 내용의 설문을 실시하였다. 설문 분석결과, 사서가 근무하고 있는 학교보다 사서교사가 근무하고 있는 학교의 학생들이 독서하는 시간이 더 많았고, 다양한 독서 프로그램에 참여하고 있으며, 읽을 책을 선정할 때 사서교사의 도움을 더 많이 받는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 책을 더 많이 대출하였고, DLS를 이용한 경험이 많았으며 DLS에 대한 만족도도 높은 것으로 나타났다. 학교간 차이는 '사서선생님의 수업', '대출권수', '책 선정시 사서선생님의 도움', '하루 평균 독서시간', '가정 보유 책 수', '학교도서관에서 책읽기' 순으로 나타났다. 따라서 학교간의 교육환경에 대한 불평등이 발생하지 않도록 학교도서관 운영 인력을 배치하고 이들의 전문성을 제고할 필요가 있다.

The Effect of Hangul Font on Reading Speed in the Computer Environment

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of Hangul font on reading speed when texts are displayed on the computer screen. Background: Reading performance is influenced by fonts. However, there are few studies of Hangul font from a cognitive perspective. Fonts could affect reading performance directly and indirectly, interacting with other visual-perceptual factors such as size, word spacing, and line spacing. Method: In experiment 1, two variables were manipulated; a frame condition(square frame non-square frame) and a stroke condition(serif sans-serif). According to each condition, one of the four fonts was applied to the texts. The height of the four fonts was controlled. The participants were asked to read aloud the presented texts. In experiment 2, the non-square frame fonts were adjusted to have approximately the same size, width, letter spacing, and word spacing as the square frame fonts. The experimental design and task used in experiment 2 were identical with experiment 1. Results: In general, reading speed was faster in the square frame fonts than in the non-square frame fonts. The reading speed was not significantly different across stroke conditions. Conclusion: The frame of Hangul font significantly influenced reading speed. These results suggest that the type of Hangul font is a factor to affect reading performance. Application: The frame of fonts should be considered in designing of new fonts. The square frame fonts should be the preferred choice to enhance legibility.

도서관 열람환경에서의 어린이 인지정보처리에 관한 연구 (A Study on Interpretations of Children's Cognitive Information Processing in Reading Environment of Library)

  • The library means to children a place where they find information necessary for them among a variety of knowledge and information to address their intellectual curiosity, which makes their lives wise and mature. There are not enough research materials understanding children's cognitive systems and behaviors in studies of a children's library with this necessity. This study divided and analyzed the behaviors of children, who were users into three types of reading in terms of information processing. First, it observed the types of reading depending on the stage of their cognitive development; Second, it analyzed the patterns of their behaviors through plays; and lastly, it presented the phases of their behaviors depending on the degree of an assistant's intervention. As a result of the study, the sensory system used and the space preferred differed depending on the stage of their cognition; there were differences in the patterns of their behaviors in each age group depending on the type of play; and there were differences in the children's ability of information processing depending on the assistant's ability. It is anticipated that there will be improvements of children's reading ability at the reading room in a better environment if the three types are considered in terms of information processing.

독서태도에 관한 암묵적 지식 연구 사서교사와 초등교사 및 초등학생의 인식 조사를 중심으로 (A Study on the Tacit Knowledge of Attitude toward Reading)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 독서태도에 관한 암묵적 지식을 확인하고 독서태도를 측정하는 데에 필요한 기초정보와 시사점을 획득하는 데에 있다. 이를 위해 5개의 초등학교에서 사서교사와 초등교사 및 초등학생들을 대상으로 반구조화된 면담을 수행하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 학생과 교사들은 독서태도를 평가하는 기준과 특성을 학생의 능력, 성격 및 행동적 측면으로 구분하였다. 학생들은 독서의 필요성을 인식하고 있었으며 독서를 즐거운 감정으로 받아들였다. 그러나 독서능력이 하인 그룹의 학생들은 다른 그룹의 학생들보다 독서가 학업적 목적으로 필요하다고 인식하고 있었으며 독서를 보다 부정적인 정서로 표현하였다. 학생들은 또래집단과 교사, 가족구성원을 독서행동에 영향을 미치는 인물로 인식하고 있었으며 책의 주제 및 내용과 더불어 책 자체의 특성도 중요하게 고려하였다. 교사들은 독서태도를 책에 대한 태도와 그 책을 읽는 태도를 포괄한 개념으로 인식하였고, 독서환경과 관심, 습관, 책, 경험 등을 독서태도의 영향요인으로 언급하였다.

디지털 시대의 고전 서사 읽기 (Reading Korean Classical Narrative in Digital Era)

  • This Study aims to research how we read Korean classical narrative in the digital era and the culture digital made. The meaning of reading Korean classical narrative in digital culture can be divided in four category; first, reading the old narrative text that made and enjoyed a long time ago in digital era, second, reading the old narrative text that made in the old times not as th book but by the media environment that the digital technology made up, third, reading the extended and modified media text by the digital technology from the original old narrative text, fourth, reading the text by the digital technology seeking for the original narrative text as archetype. And it is inspected that the characteristic of the digital era and how to read the four type of Korean classical narrative through the example. So we can consider about the characteristic of enjoying Korean classical narrative and method of reading the diversified Korean classical narrative by the digital. Finally, it is conclusion that we must think over the original text of Korean classical narrative and adhere classicality. And we learned we should research more abundant Korean classical narrative text.
