The purpose of this study is to research the concepts of reading ability and debate ability, and the components of both abilities and to make the performance assessment's standards to apply them to the classroom for reading debate in the school libraries. For doing this, I studied the necessity of reading debate, assessment, and the components of reading/debate abilities. The components of the reading and debate abilities were derived from the theoretical researches and the performance assessment's standards for the reading debate were proposed in the viewpoint of the teacher librarians and classroom teachers in the school libraries in order that the teacher librarians and teachers could apply them to the reading debate classes and assess the performance achievement of the students.

This study is to develop an instructional model for expanding reading debate topic. Also, effects on reading attitude and self-directed learning are identified in this study. The instructional model is implemented for target students, elementary school students. This model was evaluated by a pre-test and a post-test, targeting on students in fourth grade. As a result, this model is effective on developing reading habits and establishing self-directed attitude.

The purpose of this study is the investigation and evaluation of participants' awareness in the Book debate club which is managed by library of C University in Gwangju. For this purpose, the difference of the impact of participation in accordance to the participation duration and attitude, the demographic property of participants, and the problem of Book debate club are investigated. The collection of data is achieved by questionnaires and interviews. In the analyzed result, the period and manner of the participation are very important factors. Also, the activation plan is proposed on the basis of the analyzed result of problems in reading debate club to contribute to the management of future University library's reading promotion program.

The research has provided elementary and junior high school students at Children's Center in Incheon district and analyzed its effective factors in both educational and operational aspects. The educational factors in reading discussion include reading, writing, presenting, listening, and rethinking. In the result, the influential factors are as follows: the respondents' emotional intelligence, the level of reading completion, the level of sympathy with class participants, and the level of advance preference on reading. There are additional factors that have influences on the result, including suitability of topics, capabilities of leaders, selection of books, and combination of basic educational training, like speaking and writing.

This study examines the importance of learning language and cultural integration in general English class focused on TOEIC reading comprehension. The understanding of cultural learning and learners' cultural awareness has long been a subject of debate. This study was not only to analyze the improvement of students' interest and reading comprehension ability of TOEIC through cultural learning, but also to ensure students who learn American culture overcome cross-cultural miscommunication and improve their English reading comprehension skills. Pre-post surveys and the pre-post TOEIC tests were used to measure language proficiency and American cultural knowledge to two groups: the experimental and control group. The results from the study were as follows: First, students had better TOEIC scores with improved motivation after understanding American culture relevant to the lessons. Second, reading comprehension skills with regards to TOEIC also improved, compared with the students who were not exposed to American culture due to lack of opportunity.

The purpose of this study was to examine the degree of recognition and reading experience of the rental housing law in rental housing residents. The subjects of this study were 359 residents who lived in Gwang-Ju and who were surveyed by questionnaire in 2000. Data was analyzed with the statistical methods of frequency, percentage, mean and chi-square. The main results of this study were as follows: 1) About 64% of the residents knew the rental housing law 2) Degree of recognition about the rental housing law was significant on age, apartment size, housing rental deposit, and monthly rental fee. 3) About 92% of the residents didn't read the rental housing law. 4) Degree of reading about the rental housing law was not significant on the level of housing characteristics. If the residents knew about rental housing law, it might be prevented the damage from housing rental deposit refund debate, contract termination and rental housing company dishonor.

This essay investigates how the industrialization of the US food system was closely linked to US foreign policy, gender issues, and the rise of consumerism in the Cold War era. While many scholars in American studies and women's studies over the past few decades have paid increasing attention to the interrelationship of gender politics and the media industry in shaping US domesticity, they have seldom studied how and why reading gender issues in relation to environmental discourse in general and the industrialized US food system in particular can help us better understand the complex relationship between environmental and social problems that we are facing today, both collectively and individually. In this context, this essay shows how US national politics have not only created the ideal of American domesticity that promotes traditional gender roles and consumerism at the expense of gender equality, but also negatively affected women's somatic and mental health writ large. By closely examining the cultural implications of Nixon's and Khrushchev's Kitchen Debate in the 1950s alongside newspapers, photographs, advertisements, and Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar (1963), I argue that reading Cold War consumer culture in relation to the US food system leads readers to see the invisible links between gender politics and today's environmental and social problems in comparative and global contexts.

The general or separate reading room in domestic public libraries is a space that represents Korea's unique characteristics that are rarely found in advanced cultural countries. If it is an indispensable space for residents of the community, all public libraries should install and operate it. Otherwise, the general reading room of existing public libraries should be reduced or improved and the new library needs strategic thinking about its installation. Therefore, this study analysed the operation status and major issues of the general reading room, and then suggested the direction based on the survey and comparison of the recognition of the general reading room for the staff (librarian) and the users. The results can contribute not only to the ongoing debate on the general reading room, which is the central theme of discussion of local public goods, but also to find desirable alternatives.

이 연구는 독서토론수업이 교육환경에서 실제 당면하고 있는 문제를 파악하고, 학습자가 독서 정보바탕의 토론활동을 하는 독서토론 모형을 개발하여 제안하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 연구자와 현장 전문가의 협력을 통해 현실적 문제를 해결하는 설계기반 연구를 활용하여 논제 구축형 독서토론수업 모형을 개발하였다. 연구의 대상은 초등학교 4학년이었으며, 모형의 완성을 위해 16차시의 수업을 진행하고 양적 연구와 질적 연구, 전문가 검토를 반복하는 형성적 순환을 실시하였다.

The purpose of this study was to explore and to suggest the effective teaching methods for university students to improve their speaking abilities through peer assessment-feedback and self assessment-feedback based presentation and debate class. The objects and content of the study were the students who took a class "Reading and Communication" of H university, and here examine closely the speaking activities and their effects during the integrated activities of 'reading, speaking and writing'. In speaking education peer and self assessment feedback is to form an emotional consensus among the students and encourage active participation, and enable self-discovery and communication learning to students. As a result of the study, it was found that the variety speaking practice had a very positive effect on the attitude of speaking and the psychological aspect, and it was confirmed that the evaluation and feedback activities had a meaningful learning effect on the students. Effective speech education and guidance measures should be continuously studied and developed.
