This study examined the differences in young children's reading results to two types of picture books, focusing on the features of pop-up books. Children's reading time, interests, responsiveness, comprehension, and recall were compared for pop-up books and regular books with the same story. The results of this study were as follows. First, young children showed similarly high interests in both versions. Second, children from the pop-up books group read for a longer time, and showed a higher responsiveness level in focusing on the illustrations than their counterparts. Third, children who read regular books displayed better comprehension and recall than children who read pop-up books.
The purpose of this study was to examine maternal mental-state talks while mothers and their 2-year-old children interacted in two contexts which were pretense/role-play and shared book reading contexts. Thirty-six dyads of mothers and their 2-year-old children participated in this study. The results showed that the mothers made more references to mental-state in the pretense/role-ply context than in the book reading context, but the ratio of using the three types of mental state talks(i.e., desire, feeling, and cognition) did not vary with the contexts. The most frequently used mental-state talk by the mothers was 'desire' in both contexts and the tendency to use the three types of mental-state talks in the two contexts was related. The results of this study suggest implications for providing useful information on the role of mothers in the development of children's theory of mind.
The purpose of this study was to examine the level of awareness of the importance of work ability and their final school contribution and the difference between them among health care workers', and to explore the direction of the health care training curriculum by analyzing using IPA. As for the analysis data, the response data of a total of 465 health care workers among the original data of the 14th (2020) Youth Panel Survey were used. As a result of the analyzing using IPA, concentrate here area was none, and the keep up the good work area was specialized knowledge, practical knowledge in the field of expertise, communication, ability to cooperate with others, customer response capability, ability to learn for oneself, deliberate lifestyle, ability to adapt to change, good job perspective and business manners, understanding documents. Low priority area was computer literacy, ability to creative problem solving, reading and writing in a foreign language, solving math problems, foreign language conversation, and the possible overkill area was creating a document. Based on the these results, implications for effective curriculum development to cultivate health care workers were suggested.
EBM is "the conscientious, explicit and judicious use of current best evidence in mating decisions about the care of the individual patient. EBM is the integration of clinical expertise, patient values, and the best evidence into the decision making process for patient care. The practice of EBM is usually triggered by patient encounters which generate questions about the effects of therapy, the utility of diagnostic tests, the prognosis of diseases, or the etiology of disorders. The best evidence is usually found in clinically relevant research that has been conducted using sound methodology. Evidence-based medicine requires new skills of the clinician, including efficient literature-searching, and the application of formal rules of evidence in evaluating the clinical literature. Evidence-based medicine converts the abstract exercise of reading and appraising the literature into the pragmatic process of using the literature to benefit individual patients while simultaneously expanding the clinician's knowledge base. This review will briefly discuss about concepts of evidence medicine and method of critical appraisal of literatures.
Number of children cared by child care centers has getting up almost half of the from zero to five year age group in korea. Home care children' activities are reported more active and natural than those of center care children. So this study seek the design guidelines for the residential core model of child care centers as second home in korea. The residential core model by Anita Lui Olds was selected and ten domestic center cases were surveyed for guidelines. Firstly, daily-residential core model is learning by daily life at home, and is equiped with cooking kitchenet and group activity area in group room. Secondly, play-residental core model is learning by playing by self, and is equiped with acting, eating and reading common area clustering two or three group room. Thirdly, eco-residental core model is learning by eco-friendly activities, and is equiped with companying, cooperating and sharing area. Fourthly, project-residental core model is learning by project by self, and is equiped with drawing, experimenting and presenting common area. Fifthly, the space of residential core model is organized with three or four group room and clustering living or common area. The larger the center is, the more the cluster is vertically. Facility area and outdoor playground per child is about 7 and $3m^2$.
Objective: The visually impaired have limited access to health care services and related information, and thus, they can have serious hurdles against properly taking medications. Despite that it is important to improve self-care ability of the visually impaired for correct medication use, there have been few studies investigating their needs for health care services in Korea, particularly focusing on proper medication usage. This study is to explore safety-related issues regarding mediation usage among the visually impaired based on in-depth interview. We particularly focus on any obstacles for safe use of medicines including experience on medication-related adverse effects in order to provide preliminary evidence for policy measures to improve proper medication use among the visually impaired. Methods: Study sample was visually impaired individuals who resided in Seoul area and were registered in the National Association of Visually Impaired. The association helped the process of recruiting the study participants. In-depth interview for each study participants was conducted. Each interview was recorded and later converted into a written script to extract core contents for the analysis. Results: The study participants comprised of three women (42.9%) and four men (57.1%). One was in his 20's, and there were four participants in 30's and two in 40's. Fully impaired participants were majority (5 out of 7). Limitation to physical access to health care providers and health information were the key factors to hamper safe medication utilization among the study participants. Difficulty reading medication information and may take the wrong medication or incorrect doses of medication, resulting in serious consequences, including overdose or inadequate treatment of health problems. Visually impaired patients report increased anxiety related to medication management and must rely on others to obtain necessary drug information. Pharmacists have a unique opportunity to pursue accurate medication adherence in this special population. This article reviews literature illustrating how severe medication mismanagement can occur in the visually impaired elderly and presents resources and solutions for pharmacists to take a larger role in adherence management in this population. Conclusion: The visually impaired had difficulties reading medication information and identifying medicines, and took incorrect doses of medications. Public support for safe medication use and medication management among the visually impaired is necessary.
The study was carried out to estimate the prevalence and possible causes of refractive errors in primary school children. At one primary school in urban Daegu, one in the medium-sized city of Yongcheon and 2 in rural areas, children wearing glasses and children with visual acuity of less than 0.7 were given our questions. 354 out of 378 children responded to our questions. The research was done from March 2000 to February 2001. The data were analyzed by percentage, x2 test, t-test, ANOVA and Scheff method. Children with eyesight problems were more prevalent in urban areas than rural areas. The lack of luminosity during reading (p=0.015), length of reading time (p=0.08) and posture which watching TV (p=0.023) appeared leading causes of progressing myopias. The visual impairment caused by refractive errors may affect the mental and physical activity of primary school children and lead to social isolation, loneliness and depression. However, little attention may be paid by professionals engaged in providing health care to the children. Once we have recognized the impact of visual impairment, we may be in a better position to prevent progressing refractive errors.

The aim of this study is the development of a fee - based model day care center for the elderly by inquiring into the current condition of facilities in America and in Korea, and in surveying the opinion of domestic elderly about day care facilities. A field trip to U.S. day care services was held between July 5 and July 15 in 1997, and an on-the-spot study for domestic facilities took place during March in 1998. Our research reveals that the overall supply of day care facilities can not meet future demand in terms of quality and quantity. Therefore a model must be created for day care centers of a that consists of a director from a professional group. an adequate environment, and a standardized in order to offer a qualified public health service linked to the home and community in Korea. The director of a day care center is a critical variable in determining the quality of service. Professional skills related to the needs of the elderly and the person's quality of service should be considered in appointing director for the center. This study belleves that a professional nurse should be the director of a day care center. The operating environment of a day care facility should be made up of considerable space comparable to the number of residents, should be in a comfortable and safe location, and should have equipment that provides a qualified, safe service to the elderly. Our model is designed for 20 persons and allocates 4 Peng per person. This model is comprised of a reading room. a craft room, a health room, a room for physical therapy, a dining room, a staff office, and a multi -purpose room connected to other rooms. Day care service should be a comprehensive service program meeting the multidimensional needs of the elderly. A comprehensive service program needs a team of various professionals made up of the elderly family, participants, nurses, social workers, physical therapists, nutritionists, and medical doctors. The program will also include health care service, physical therapy, speech therapy. diet, occupational therapy, transportation service, health and an education program, etc. In conclusion, a model of a day care center is developed with the following components: a professional director and an environment and program, that considers the physical, mental, and social characteristics of the elderly. A model should also motivate self-reliance self-fulfillment in the elderly in order to fulfill their health needs and to prevent isolation from society and mental depression. Furthermore, This facility will be a beneficial factor in reducing a family's burden on caring for the elderly that includes unnecessary hospital expenses. The following is a suggestion based on results this study: A service program should be developed to fit the conditions of the elderly in Korea by specifically analyzing the needs of the elderly.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of reading and discussion activities on children's self-esteem in a social welfare center called 'Gongbubang.' A reading/discussion program was constructed to serve the purpose of the study and suit the selected children by referring to earlier studies that found reading programs were effective at boosting the self-esteem of elementary schoolers. The subjects in this study were 21 children in 'HaedamGongbubang', a general social welfare center located in an urban region in South Gyeongsang Province. Out of them, 12 children who involved four boys and eight girls were selected as an experimental group, and nine who included five boys and four girls were grouped into a control group. The reading/discussion program was implemented in eight sessions during a four-week period of time from September 23 to October 15, 2009, twice a week, 50 to 55 minutes each. The instrument used in this study was Yoon Hyang-mi(2008)'s Self-Esteem Inventory, and the collected data were analyzed with a SPSS 12.0 program. The major findings of the study were as follows: First, the reading and discussion activities had an effect on bolstering the general self, social self and academic self of the children in the Gongbubang, a social welfare center. Second, the reading and discussion activities were effective at improving the general self and academic self of the school boys in the Gongbubang, a social welfare center. Third, the reading and discussion activities had an effect on fostering the social self and academic self of the school girls in the Gongbubang, a social welfare center. The findings of the study illustrated that the reading and discussion activities had an effect on furthering the self-esteem of the children in the Gongbubang, a social welfare center, and those activities are expected to be conducive to the self-esteem of children in Gongbubangs, which are social welfare centers.
