이 연구는 동물매개치료 중에서 'Read to Dogs'를 활용하여 초등학생의 자아존중감 및 독서증진에 실제로 어떤 효과가 있는지 알아보는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 이를 위하여 실행연구, 설문지법, 미술치료기법 중 HTP의 나무그림, KFD의 움직임이 있는 가족그림의 사전, 사후검사를 통하여 비교 분석하였다. 연구 결과 독서보조견을 통한 책읽기 프로그램은 독서부진 아동의 자아존중감 향상에 효과를 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 도서관이나 학교 현장에서 독서부진 아동을 위한 프로그램을 개발하고, 운영하는데 유용한 정보로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

This study examined the effects of a geographic experiential activity program on the ability to represent and to read maps(directions, perspectives, and symbols). The subjects were 44 5-year-old kindergarten children assigned to an experimental or a control group, with 22 children in each group. The geographic experiential activity program was developed and applied to the experimental group for 4 weeks. Results indicated that the experimental group was higher in reading and representing maps than the control group. Through the geographic experiential activity program, children came to be concerned about their living space, to be able to read and comprehend a simple map, and to represent a basic map with the use of directions, perspectives, and symbols.

This paper investigates the intonation patterns of Korean spontaneous speech through an analysis of four dialogues in the domain of travel planning. The speech corpus, which is a subset of spontaneous speech database recorded and distributed by ETRI, is labeled in APs and IPs based on K-ToBI system using Momel, an intonation stylization algorithm. It was found that unlike in English, a significant number of APs and IPs include hesitation lengthening, which is known to be a disfluency phenomenon due to speech planning. This paper also claims that the hesitation lengthening is different from the IP-final lengthening and that it should be categorized as a new category, as it greatly affects the intonation patterns of the language. Except for the fact that 19.09% of APs show hesitation lengthening, the spontaneous speech shows the same AP patterns as in read speech with higher frequency of falling patterns such as LHL in comparison with read speech which show more LH and LHLH patterns. The IP boundary tones of spontaneous speech, showing the same five patterns such as L%, HL%, LHL%, H%, LH% as in read speech, show higher frequency of rising patterns (H% and LH%) and contour tones (HL%, LH%, LHL%) while read speech on the contrary shows higher frequency of falling patterns and simple tones at the end of IPs.

This paper proposes printed organic one-time programmable read-only memory (PROM). The organic PROM cell consists of a capacitor and an organic p-type metal-oxide semiconductor (PMOS) transistor. Initially, all organic PROM cells with unbroken capacitors store "0." Some organic PROM cells are programmed to "1" by electrically breaking each capacitor with a high voltage. After the capacitor breaking, the current flowing through the PROM cell significantly increases. The memory data is read out by sensing the current in the PROM cell. 16-bit organic PROM cell arrays are fabricated with the printed organic PMOS transistor and capacitor process. The organic PROM cells are programmed with -50 V, and they are read out with -20 V. The area of the 16-bit organic PROM array is 70.6 $mm^2$.

RFID 기술은 각 사물에 전자 태그를 부착하고, 사물의 고유 ID를 무선으로 인식하여, 해당 정보를 수집, 저장, 가공, 추적하는 기술로 다양한 분야에 적용되고 있다. 이러한 RFID 시스템을 설계하는데 있어 리더가 태그 정보를 인지할 수 있는 인식 거리는 중요한 파라미터 중 하나이다. 본 논문에서는 UHF 대역 RFID 시스템의 장거리 인식 거리에 요구되는 태그를 설계하는 새로운 방법을 제안하였다. 제안한 방법에 따른 태그는 순방향 인식 거리를 확장하기 위해 전지 지원형 형태로 설계되었으며, 역방향 인식 거리를 확장하기 위해 역산란 변조 신호를 증폭하였다. 제작된 태그의 최소 문턱 전력은 -23 dBm, 역산란 증폭 이득은 28 dB임을 측정 결과를 통해 확인하였으며, 이는 시뮬레이션 결과와 일치한다. 본 논문에서 제안한 태그의 인식 거리는 상용 태그와 비교하여 2배 이상 향상되었다.

이 글은 만횡청류의 한 독법을 제시하는 데 목적을 두었다. 만횡청류 독법의 전제는 노랫말이 '뜻과 지취가 보잘 것 없'지만 '손으로 펼치고 눈으로 보'는 독서물이면서 동시에 그것이 '빈연지오(賓筵之娛)'으로 기능했다는 점이다. 독서물이나 가창물에서 희극적인 부분을 찾아내는 일이 어렵지 않은 것도 이런 특성과 밀접하다. '만횡청류 독법의 전제들'과 '남녀 간의 만남과 이별에 대한 진술들'을 고려했을 때, '이제는못보게도~'는 '이별하기 싫다'라는 화자의 마음을 희극적으로 표현한 노래였다. 화자는 임을 그리워하다가 죽은 자신의 모습을 아이를 통해 임에게 전하고 싶어 한다. 자신의 죽어가는 과정을 희극적 요소에 기대 진술하고 있는데, 이를 통해 임은 웃으며 떠날 수 있고 화자는 웃으며 보낼 수 있었을 것이다. '개야미불개야미~'는 '황당한 소문을 임이 믿지 않기를 바란다'는 화자의 마음을 불구상태의 불개미를 통해 나타내고 있다. 그러한 상태에 있는 불개미가 광릉의 고개를 넘어 가람[칡범]의 허리를 물고 북해를 건너갔다는 소문은 희극적 요소를 더욱 배가시키는 역할을 했다.

이 연구의 목적은 2006년부터 2017년까지 진행된 미국 National Endowment for the Arts가 지원하는 'The Big Read(TBR)' 지역사회 독서운동에서 선정된 책들의 특성 및 'One Book'과의 관계를 살펴보는 것이다. 2017년 12월 현재 NEA의 TBR에 참여한 1,407개 프로그램과 745개 지역사회, TBR Library 선정 책 56권을 분석한 결과는 TBR은 'One Book' 독서운동을 확장 및 보완하고 있으며, 이 독서운동 모형의 지속가능성을 확증하였다. TBR은 책 선정에서 독자적 지향점을 갖지만, 주제적 특성은 'One Book' 책 1,102권의 축소판과 같은 유사성을 가진다. 성장, 정의, 관용과 같은 인간의 보편적 가치 및 미국 내 다양한 민족과 문화 경험과 삶에 대한 관심을 반영한다. 'One Book'과 TBR의 가시적 성과는 계량하기 어려우나, 한 권의 책을 통한 소통의 가치는 지속가능함을 확인하였다.

This study aims to propose using English reading strategies to enhance Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC) for EFL learners. The study recruited college-level participants who were enrolled in a general English reading course (N=30) and administrated the surveys with a Repeated Measures Design (RMD). In the survey, an intercultural sensitivity scale and metacognitive reading strategies inventory were conducted for comparison. During the instruction, participants were asked to use the R.I.D.E.R. (i.e. Read, Image, Describe, Evaluate, and Repeat) strategy for visualization of text, which is aimed at facilitating the use of metacognitive reading strategies. In the results, participants showed a statistically significant increase both in the intercultural sensitivity level and the use of metacognitive reading strategies after the practice of R.I.D.E.R for one semester. Further analysis was appended to the results by the correlation and regression analysis, and proposed that participants benefit their development of intercultural sensitivity from the use of metacognitive reading strategies. Therefore, the study suggests that implementing metacognitive reading strategies facilitates college EFL readers to increase their cultural sensitivity, which empowers ICC through English reading (176words).

First published in 1934, George Orwell's Burmese Days, which can be read as an example of both descriptive realism and fictional realism, is considered to be a colonial example of British literature because of its publication date. However, based on the personal experience of the author as an imperial officer in Burma, the novel has an anti-imperialist tone, which can also make it possible to read it through postcolonial eyes. As a result, the novel stands as an example of ambivalence since it has both the colonial and the postcolonial perspective; both the colonizer and the colonized are portrayed with their own flaws, adding to the impact of what can be called "Third Space." This is why the voice of the imperial is heard in an anti-imperialist tone in Burmese Days, through which Orwell presents a critique of colonialism with a from-within approach.

Progressive weakness of skeletal muscle is the hallmark of muscular dystrophies. It is often accompanied by cardiomyopathy and respiratory insufficiency. It has generally been perceived as incurable diseases, while the advent of genetic therapy is changing the paradigm. Most research and achievements have been for the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy, while it is promising to hope for therapies for other myopathies. Drugs for nonsense read-through and exon skipping are already approved for clinical use in Europe and the United States, respectively. Gene therapy using adeno-associated virus is in early phase of clinical trial. In this review, most promising genetic therapies will be briefly described.
