  • Similitude requirement for model testing of flow induced vibration of reactor internals are investigated. In depth discussions on the Reynolds number effects are made. For valid model tests of fuel assemblies vibrating in its fundamental natural frequency, reduced frequency (fD/U), and dam ping parameter( $m_{c}$$\delta$$_{c}$ $D_{\rho}$$^2$) are two most important parameters.ers.

  • This paper describes a method for estimating the flux and precursor spatial distributions using only limited flux measurements. It is based on the Luenberger observer in control theory, extended to the distributed parameter systems such as the space-time reactor dynamics equation. The results of the application of the method to simple reactor models showed that the flux distribution could be estimated by the observer very efficiently using information from only a few sensors.

  • This study was performed to estimate the ozonation characteristics of phenol wastewater with increasing pH in the continuous packed column reactor (PCR) and the bubble column reactor (BCR). Among various influencing factors that affect phenol on decomposition through the ozonation, pH was chosen as reaction parameter. Upon increasing pH from 3 to 9, the phenol removal efficiency in PCR was improved approximately by 17% while in BCR approximately by 19.2%. The improvements in the phenol removal efficiency by increasing pH caused the enhancements in ozone utilization efficiency reaching almost 100% in PCR at pH 9. In conclusions, ozone has latent power for phenol wastewater treatment, and the performance of PCR was superior to that of BCR in the aspects of phenol removal and ozone utilization efficiency.

  • The relative reaction rates were measured in the TRIGA Mark II reactor core and analyzed to obtain the neutron spectrum parameters; relative neutron temperature T$^{n}$ and epithermal index (equation omitted) Measurements were made with the central thimble and the F2 position containing the light water. The relative neutron temperature was represented by the activation ratio of Lu-Mn, and the epithermal index was measured by Au-Mn foil activation. The multichannel analyzer was used to measure the relative ${\gamma}$-rays of the detector foils. The results were compared with the calculated values.

  • This paper describes a general method for the design of variable structure Model-Following Control systems (VSMFC). This design concept is developed using the theory of variable structure systems and slide mode. The feasibility and the advantages of the method are illustrated by applying it to a 1000 MWe Boiling Water Reactor. The control is studied in the range of 85 - 90 % of rated power for load-following control. A set of 12 nonlinear differential eq. are used to simulate the total plant. A 6th order linear model has been developed from these equations at 85% of rated power. The obtained controller is shown by simulations to be able to compensate for a plant parameter variation over a wide power range.

  • Impedance matching characteristics of planar type inductively coupled plasma sources are investigated utilizing the previously reported two-dimensional theory[1] of the anomalous skin effect. Two types of matching networks are considered, and the values of the circuit elements are expressed as functions of various reactor parameter. Also, two cases of perfect and imperfect matching conditions are considered and the functional dependence of the values of matching capacitance and reflection coefficient on the various reactor parameters are investigated using the present circuit model.

  • The three-phase canned induction motor, which consists of a stator and rotor with a seal can, is used for the main coolant pump (MCP) of the System-integrated Modular Advanced Reactor (SMART). The thermal characteristics of the can must be estimated exactly, since the eddy current loss of the can is a dominant parameter in design. Besides the insulation of the motor winding is compared of Teflon, glass fiber, and air, so it is not an easy task to analyze. A FEM thermal analysis was per-formed by using the thermal properties of complex insulation which were obtained by comparing the results of finite element thermal analysis and those of the experiment. As a result, it is shown that the characteristics of prototype canned induction motor have a good agreement with the results of FEM.

  • McCARD is a Monte Carlo (MC) neutron-photon transport simulation code. It has been developed exclusively for the neutronics design of nuclear reactors and fuel systems. It is capable of performing the whole-core neutronics calculations, the reactor fuel burnup analysis, the few group diffusion theory constant generation, sensitivity and uncertainty (S/U) analysis, and uncertainty propagation analysis. It has some special features such as the anterior convergence diagnostics, real variance estimation, neutronics analysis with temperature feedback, $B_1$ theory-augmented few group constants generation, kinetics parameter generation and MC S/U analysis based on the use of adjoint flux. This paper describes the theoretical basis of these features and validation calculations for both neutronics benchmark problems and commercial PWR reactors in operation.

  • In this research effect of SRT, feeding pattern and reactor configuration on intermittently aerated activated sludge system was evaluated by using computer simulation model. T- N removal was affected to the SRT. SRT for the effective T- N removal was 156ay or longer. Feeding pattern in intermittently aerated activated sludge system was affect to the T- N removal. Feeding pattern which 100% loading to the first reactor was most effective for T- N removal. When multi- stage of 2- stage or more was operated, COD and T- N in effluent removal was nearly the same.

  • In this study, adsorption characteristics of PCBs on granular activated carbon were experimentally investigated in a batch reactor and in a fixed bed reactor. Granular activated carbon removed above 98.4% of initial concentration, 1000mg/L, of PCBs. It was estabilished that the adsorption equilibrium of PCBs on granular activated carbon was more successfully fitted by Freundlich isotherm equation in the concentration range from 1 to 1000mg/L. Because Freundlich parameter, ${\beta}$ is 0.346, removall treatment of PCBs by activated carbon accounts for the fact that toxicity reduction can be achieved through this process. Appearance time of breakthrough curve is faster with the increase flow rate and inflow concentration of liquid. The utility of granular activated carbon is enhanced with the increase of bed height and with the decrease of inflow rate.
