  • Recently as distributed source has increased, the distribution system has changed from unidirectional power flow to bi-directional power flow. This power flow causes the PCC voltage variation, which can adversely affect voltage sensitive loads. In this paper, the relation between the active power, reactive power and PCC voltage of the distributed source is analyzed, and the PCC voltage control scheme by reactive power compensation is proposed in the distributed source itself. In addition, limitations and conditions according to the standard for interconnecting distributed resources are specified and verified through simulation.

  • The DSTATCOM(Distribution Static Synchronous Compensator) is one of the Custom Power Devices that can regulate voltage. The DSTATCOM operates as a shunt connected static var compensator whose capacitive or inductive output current can be controlled independent of the system voltage. The magnitude of the compensated voltage is limited by characteristics of the system and the load. Compensation capability of the DSTATCOM which can inject 1 MVAR reactive power was simulated by EMTDC under several conditions. This paper analyzes the effect of the DSTATCOM's compensation considering the length and kind of distribution line, the power factor and magnitude of the load, and the duration and magnitude of the voltage variation.

  • This paper proposed the p-q-r coordinate system where the instantaneous active power p, and the two instantaneous reactive powers qq, qr were defined. The three power components are linearly independent, so the compensation for the two instantaneous reactive powers leads to control the two components of the current space vector. With the theory, the neutral current of a three-phase four-wire system can be eliminated by only compensating the instantaneous reactive power using no energy storge element.

계통연계 풍력발전시스템의 무효전력 보상에 대한 시뮬레이션 (Simulation of Reactive Power Compensation in Grid-Connected Wind Power Generation System)

  • Reactive power support is considered to be necessary for dealing with a voltage stability issue with wind turbine system employing squirrel-cage induction generator(SCIG). This paper analyses steady-state characteristics of the SCIG wind turbine system by simulating torque-slip characteristics of SCIG with respect to variations of interconnecting network strength and generator terminal voltage. It also presents dynamics analysis of SCIG wind turbine system on Simulink to investigate the impact of static var compensator(SVC) and static synchronous compensator(STATCOM) on transient stability enhancement. It analysed transient stability with varying fault duration times and compared the transient stability characteristics with varying rated capacities of SVC and STATCOM. It is shown that the STATCOM has a better performance and reactive power support compared to SVC.

  • 900 MW 복합화력발전소의 경우 소내 부하의 대부분은 회전기기이며 저역률로 운전되고 있고 역률 저하는 무효전력을 증가시켜 기기의 효율 저하 및 불필요한 소내 전력을 소비하는 원인이 된다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 문제점을 해결할 수 있는 방안인 무효전력을 흡수 및 제거하는 무효전력보상장치를 6.9 kV 소내 모선에 설치하여 운전함으로써 그에 대한 결과를 제시하고자 한다. 본 시스템의 적용 결과 우선 회전기기의 역률이 0.22로 개선 및 소내 부하전력량 1.4% 감소됨을 확인하였고 발전기 열효율 0.1%, 발전출력810 kW 증가함을 알 수 있었다. 다음으로 투자비 1.5억 원 대비 소내 전력손실비용 2억 원/년 감소 및 매출액 10억 원/년 증가로 경제성 있음으로 분석되었고 향후 건설 및 운영 시 비용절감이 가능함을 확인하였다.

Analysis and Compensation of PCC Voltage Variations caused by Wind Turbine Power Fluctuations

  • The voltage variation problem at the point of common coupling (PCC) in a grid-connected wind turbine is investigated. The voltage variation problem is one of the most frequent power quality issues for the grid connection of large amounts of input power in a weak grid. Through the simplified modeling of the wind turbine and power network, the magnitude of PCC voltage variation is calculated by using the equivalent circuit parameters and output power of the wind turbine. The required amount of reactive power that can compensate the voltage variation is also presented analytically by using the vector diagram method. The proposed calculation and compensation method of the PCC voltage variation is verified by computer simulations and experiments.

  • 최근 해상풍력산업이 활성화되면서 기존 화력 발전소 규모의 400MW 급 발전단지들이 개발되고 있다. 재생에너지는 에너지원에 따라 간헐성이 큰 특성이 있고, 최신 재생에너지 발전설비들은 제어기능을 갖는 인버터 기술로 구성되는 특징이 있다. 이러한 재생에너지원의 계통연계 확대에 따라 전력계통 접속을 위한 그리드코드도 점점 구체화되고 있고, 이에 따라 관련 검토도 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 그리드 코드 준수를 위해 여러 해상풍력 발전단지들을 통합하여 공동접속설비로 접속하는 경우, 최적 무효전력 보상용량 선정 방법에 대해 제안한다. 그리드 코드의 요구조건을 기반으로, 전북 서남해 400MW 풍력발전단지의 무효전력 보상과 과도안정도를 분석한다. 이 분석은 PSS/E를 사용하여 각 터빈 배치안과 케이블 데이터로 발전단지 DB를 구축하고, 내·외부망 케이블의 충전전류에 의한 무효전력과 연계점에서 무효전력 보상용량을 산출한다. 또한 전력계통 DB에 연계해서 정적, 동적 안정도를 고찰한다.

Series Active Power Filters to Compensate Harmonics and Reactive Power with the Direct Compensating Voltage Extraction Method in Three-Phase Four-Wire Systems

  • This paper presents the analysis of series active power filter for reactive power compensation, load balancing, harmonic elimination, and neutral current eradication in three-phase four-wire power systems. Generally, the three-phase four-wire system is widely employed in distributing electric energy to several office building and manufacturing plants. In such systems, the third harmonic and its 3rd harmonics are termed as triple and zero sequence components that do not cancel each other in the system neutral. Consequently, the triple harmonics add together creating a primary source of excessive neutral current. Regarding this concern, this paper presents a new control algorithm for a series hybrid active system, whereas the control approach it adopts directly influence its compensation characteristics. Hence, the advantage of this control algorithm is the direct extraction of compensation voltage reference without phase transformations and multiplying harmonic current value by gain and the required rating of the series active filter is much smaller than that of a conventional shunt active power filter. In order to show the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm, experiments have been carried out.

  • In this paper, a static synchronous compensator(STATCOM) is proposed in order to compensate both negative-sequence and reactive power. The STATCOM control unit is designed considering the proposed compensation scheme for the unbalanced loads. As a result, the effectiveness of the STATCOM for compensating both negative-sequence and reactive power is verified by computer simulations.
