  • Near Infrared (NIR) spectra has long been used in industry to monitor rates of reactions via calculation of analyte concentrations. However, the kinetic information is inherent in the data through spectral ratios. Two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy (2D-COS) is a spectral method that is based on changes (e.g. concentration) in time and is therefore uniquely suited for reaction monitoring. This method is especially useful in the understanding of how the reaction(s) proceeds. We will show the application of 2D-COS to synthetic kinetic data from different reaction orders to illustrate the method. We will then show application to real reactions of various orders. Finally, we will illustrate how 2D-COS will be of specific interest to developing optimized industrial reactions.

  • The redox reaction on graphene nanoribbon (GNR) field effect transistors(FET) has been studied. In detail, upon employing an electrolyte gating, we verified electron transport performance modulation of GNR FET by monitoring conductance variation under oxidation and reduction processes. The conductance enhancement of GNR via removal of PMMA residue on graphene surface during redox cycles was also observed.

  • How accurately reproducible energy is delivered to the wafer in the process of making thin films using PE-CVD (Plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition) during the semiconductor process. This is the most important technique, and most of the reaction on the wafer surface is made by thermal energy. In this study, we studied the method of monitoring the change of thermal energy transferred to the wafer surface by monitoring the temperature change according to the change of the thin film formed on the showerhead facing the wafer. Through this research, we could confirm the monitoring of wafer thin-film which is changed due to abnormal operation and accumulation of equipment, and we can expect improvement of semiconductor quality and yield through process reproducibility and equipment status by real-time monitoring of problem of deposition process equipment performance.

  • Laser-induced Raman spectroscopy has been utilized to demonstrate its feasibility for studying the kinetics of imine formation in chloroform solvent. The imine formation, by the nucleophilic addition of primary amine to the carbonyl group of ketone, has been monitored at ten minute intervals for eight hours. The intensity of the C=O stretching mode at 1684 $cm^{-1}$ was measured to determine the rate constant of the reaction. In order to correct the sample-to-sample fluctuations in Raman peak area, this peak was normalized to the C-Cl bending peak at 666 $cm^{-1}$. By the peak area change during the course of reaction, the second order rates at three different temperatures have been determined. The substituent effects on the π conjugations of imine product have also been investigated. On the basis of Raman frequency shifts, the delocalization properties of the aromatic system modified by substitution of a hydrogen atom with -Cl and $-CH_3O$ groups could be clearly understood.

  • The extent of UV-curing photo-polymerization reaction was monitored by near-IR spectroscopic method. Acrylates containing quaternary ammonium salts and Darocur 1173 were used as reactive monomer and a photo initiator, respectively. The extent of photo-polymerization reaction was obtained from the conversion ratio of acrylate double bond calculated from the intensities of measured bands at 1615 nm and at 2105 nm. Near-IR spectroscopic methods can be an useful tool for the monitoring of the progress of photo-polymerization.

  • This study represents the result of corrosion monitoring on reinforced concrete specimens by means of multi-functional corrosion monitoring sensors. To confirm the effectiveness of the sensors, eight different kinds of condition were adopted. Test factors were corrosion potential, current, corrosion rate, resistivity, and temperature, which were monitored with the sensors. Through this study, judging corrosion of steel in concrete with single corrosion factor such as corrosion potential was difficult, because many other factors can have an influence on the reaction of corrosion. By using three different kinds of sensors, it could enhance the accuracy of corrosion monitoring.

  • Protein glycation is vital to aging and disease. However, glycated proteins are low-abundant in plasma, rendering them difficult to identify using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Many studies have analyzed glycated peptides with high reproducibility. Here, glycated peptides in human serum were analyzed by LC-MS/MS using data-dependent acquisition (DDA) and parallel reaction monitoring (PRM). Boronic acid (BA) enrichment of in vitro glycated human serum peptides was performed. BA enrichment identified the most glycated peptides, and the glycated peptides of the more diversified proteins, excluding albumin, were analyzed. In PRM, glycated albumin PSMs were the most common, and this method exhibited the best reproducibility. The results of this study could help compare methods for identifying glycation-related biomarkers.
