  • In this study, we have developed a composite pressure vessel that is compact and can store refrigerant at high pressure to increase the refrigerant volume. The composite pressure vessel is made of aluminum-based duralumin, which has high rigidity and excellent elongation in the inner liner, considering the characteristics of products in the aerospace and defense industry, where the safety of the applied product is considered as a priority. High strength carbon fiber was applied to the outside. In order to evaluate the performance of the developed product, burst test and cycling test were carried out. In burst test, an excellent safety margin equivalent to 2.7 times the operating pressure was obtained. In cycling test, a stable failure mode in which 'pre-burst leak' occurs is proved and the soundness of the product is proved.

  • Major producers have already built compressors since World War I and have been monopolizing all domestic and overseas markets based on the accumulated technology, and the dependency of the manufacturers over the entire industry is deepening. Therefore, it is expected that the technological gap with developed countries will be larger without development of the related technology. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a unique technology for a new type of high efficiency compression system. In this study, we present localization of Hydraulic Compressor which can meet the technical trends such as cost reduction, efficiency improvement, environmental friendliness, wide operating range, low capacity / high capacity compatibility, size reduction, easy operation and easy maintenance.

  • The existing wet reconversion processes for the recovery of scraps generated in manufacturing of nuclear fuel are complex and require several unit operation steps. In this study, it is attempted to simplify the recovery process of high-quality fuel-grade UO2 powder. A novel wet reconversion process for uranyl nitrate hexahydrate solution is suggested by using a newly developed pulsed fluidized bed reactor, and the resultant chemical characteristics are evaluated for the intermediate ammonium uranate hydrate product and subsequently converted UO2 powder, as well as the compliance with nuclear fuel specifications and advantages over existing wet processes. The UO2 powder obtained by the suggested process improved fuel pellet properties compared to those derived from the existing wet conversion processes. Powder performance tests revealed that the produced UO2 powder satisfies all specifications required for fuel pellets, including the sintered density, increase in re-sintered density, and grain size. Therefore, the processes described herein can aid realizing a simplified manufacturing process for nuclear-grade UO2 powders that can be used for nuclear power generation.

  • This study was conducted to find out the optimal extraction conditions to obtain extracts with a high content of ginsenosides and antioxidant activity using the ginseng berry. After extraction by stirring, ultrasound and microwave method using 70% ethanol and distilled water as solvents, the results of considering the content of ginsenoside Re and Rb1, total polyphenol content, antioxidant activity, and whether it is an environmentally friendly manufacturing method, it was confirmed that the microwave method using distilled water is good method of extraction. The optimization of extraction conditions for microwave method were made by response surface methodology (RSM). Microwave power (50 ~ 200 W, X1), solvent and ginseng berry ratio (5 ~ 20 times, X2) and the extraction time (30 ~ 120 s, X3) were used as independent variables. The model showed a good fit having a determination coefficient of the regression equation of 0.9 or more and a p-value less than 0.05. Estimated conditions for the maximized extraction of ginsenoside contents and total polyphenols were 200 w in microwave power, 20 times in solvent and ginseng berry ratio, and 90 s in extraction time. Predicted values at the optimum conditions were total polyphenols of 6.23 mg GAE/g, ginsenoside Re of 17.69 mg/g, and ginsenoside Rb1 of 16.01 mg/g. In the verification of the actual measurement the obtained values showed 6.33 mg GAE/g, 17.79 mg/g, and 15.59 mg/g, respectively, in good agreement with predicted values.

  • In these days of severe struggle for existence, the world has changed a great deal to global and digital oriented period. The enterprises try to introduce new management and production system to adapt such a change. But, if the only new technologies are applied to an enterprise without definite analysis about manufacturing, failure fellows as a logical consequence. Hence, enterprise must analyze manufacturing system definitely and needs new methodologies to mitigate risk. This study suggests that the new approach, which is systems approach for process improvement, is organized to systems analysis, systems diagnosis, and systems verification. Systems analysis analyzes manufacturing systems with object-oriented methodology-UML(Unified Modeling language) from a point of product, process, and resource view. Systems diagnosis identifies the constraints to optimize the system through scientific management or TOC(Theory of constraints). Systems verification shows the solution with virtual manufacturing technique applied to the core problem which emerged from systems diagnosis. This research shows the artifacts to improve the productivity with the above methodology applied to forming shop. UML provides the definite tool for analysis and re-usability to adapt itself to environment easily. The logical tree of TOC represents logical tool to optimize the forming shop. Discrete event simulator-QUEST suggests the tool for making a decision to verify the optimized forming shop.

  • In today's semiconductor industry, manufacturing technology is being developed for the purpose of processing large amounts of data and improving the speed of data processing. The packaging process in semiconductor manufacturing is utilized for the purpose of protecting the chips from the external environment and supplying electric power between the terminals. Nowadays, the WLP (Wafer-Level Packaging) process is mainly used in semiconductor manufacturing because of its high productivity. All of the silicon dies on the wafer are subjected to a high pressure and temperature during the molding process, so that die shift and warpage inevitably occur. This phenomenon deteriorates the positioning accuracy in the subsequent re-distribution layer (RDL) process. In this study, in order to minimize the die shift, a vision inspection system is developed to collect the die shift measurement data.

  • Following the recent trend in the automotive manufacturing technologies, the product design subject to the die casting becomes more and more complex. The requirement of the die design becomes more demanding than ever before. In some cases the product's shape can have multiple slender manifolds. In such cases, design of the inlet and outlet parts of the die is very important in the whole manufacturing process. The main issues required for the qualified products are to attain gentle and uniform flow of the molten liquid within the passages of the die. To satisfy such issues, the inlet cylinder ('bed cylinder' in this paper) must be as large as possible and simultaneously the outlet opening at the end of each passage must be as small as possible. However these in turn obviously bring additional manufacturing costs caused by re-melting of the bed cylinder and increased power due to the small outlet-openings. The purpose of this paper is to develop effective simulation methods of calculation for fluid flows in multiple columns, which mimic the actual complex design, and to get some useful information which can give some contributions to the die-casting industry. We have used a commercial code CFX in the numerical simulation. The primary parameter involved is the size of the air-vent. We will show how the very small opening of the outlet, i.e. the air-vent, can be treated with the aid of the porous model provided in the code. To check the validity of the numerical results we have also conducted a simple experiment by using water.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate exposure characteristics of lead using data from the domestic occupational exposure literature. Methods: Occupational airborne exposure data on lead reported in the domestic literature from 1981 to 2018 were collected and re-analyzed. The exposure levels in the data were expressed as an estimated arithmetic mean and a weighted arithmetic mean (WAM) of the number of samples. Lead exposure characteristics were analyzed by industry, process, and year. Results: From a total of 14 documents, 8,305 airborne lead measurements for 17 industries were identified, and the WAM concentration in eight industries exceeded the occupational exposure limit of 50 ㎍/m3. Three industries (battery manufacturing, lead smelting, and litharge manufacturing) accounted for 95% of the total data, and exposure trends could be confirmed over 10 years. Exposure levels continue to decrease in all three industries. Conclusions: Considering the distribution outlook of lead and lead compounds, the main management targets are lead storage battery manufacturing and secondary smelting for lead regeneration.
