The mechanical and aerodynamic effect of building shape plays a dominate role in the pedestrian level wind environment. These effects have been presented in numerous studies and are available in many wind codes. However, most studies have focused on wind flow around conventional buildings and are limited to few wind directions. The present study investigated wind circulation in the re-entrant corners of cross-shaped high-rise buildings from various wind directions. The investigation focused on the pedestrian level wind environment in the re-entrant corners with different aspect ratios of building arrangements. Ninety cases of case study arrangements were evaluated using wind tunnel experimentation. The results show that for adequate wind circulation in the re-entrant corners, building orientations and separations play a critical role. Furthermore, in normal wind incident directions and at a high aspect ratio, poor wind flow was observed in the re-entrant corners. Moreover, it was noted that an optimized building orientation and aspect ratio significantly improved the wind flow in re-entrant corners and through passages. In addition, it was observed that oblique wind incident direction increased wind circulation in the re-entrant corners and through passages.
A detachment of biofilm was investigated in an inverse fluidized bed biofilm reactor(IFRBR). The biofilm thickness, 5 and the bioparticle density, Pm were decreased by the increase of Reynolds number, Re and the decrease of biomass concentration, h. The correlations were expressed as $\delta$=6l.6+16.33$b_c$-0.004Re and Ppd=0.3+0.027$b_c$- 2.93x$l0^{-5}$ no by multiple linear regression analysis method. Specific substrate removal rate, q was derived by F/M ratio and biofilm thickness as q=0.44.+0.82F/M-5.Ix10$-4^{$\delta$}$. Specific biofilm detachment rate, bds was influenced by FIM ratio and Reynolds number as $b_{ds}$=-0.26+0.26F/M+ 2.17$\times$$10^{-4}$Re. Specific biofilm deachment rate in an IFBBR was higher than that in a FBRR(fluidized bed biofilm reactor) because of the friction between air bubble and the bioparticles.

A new method to improve the efficiency of a hydrogen fuel cell system was introduced by using variable sonic/supersonic ejectors. To obtain the variable area ratio of the nozzle throat to ejector throat which controls the mass flow rate of the suction flow, the ejectors used a movable cylinder inserted into a conventional ejector-diffuser system. Experiments were carried out to understand the flow characteristics inside the variable ejector system. The secondary mass flow rates of subsonic and supersonic ejectors were examined by varying the operating pressure ratio and area ratio. The results showed that the variable sonic/supersonic ejectors could control the recirculation ratio by changing the throat area ratio, and also showed that the recirculation ratio increased fur the variable sonic ejector and decreased for the variable supersonic ejector, as the throat area ratio increases.
A cone cylinder is used to obtain variable operation conditions for the sonic ejector-diffuser system. The cone cylinder is designed to move upstream and downstream to change the ejector throat area ratio, thus obtaining variable mass flow rates. The present study investigates the effects of ejector throat area ratio and operating pressure ratio on the entrainment of secondary stream for the variable sonic ejector system. In experiment, the ejector throat area is varied in the range from ${\psi}=11.88$ to 66.69, and the operating pressure ratio from $p_{0p}/p_a=1.25$ to 9.0. The results show that the variable sonic ejector system is suitable for a required entrainment ratio of secondary stream by altering the ejector throat area ratio and operating pressure ratio.

The aerodynamic performance of blunt trailing edge airfoils was investigated. The flow fields around the modified NACA64-418, which consists of the tip blade of the wind turbine and Mexico model of IEA wind, were analyzed. To imitate the repaired airfoil, the original NACA64-418 airfoil, a cambered airfoil, is modified by the adding thickness method, which is accomplished by adding the thickness symmetrically to both sides of the camber line. The thickness ratio of the blunt trailing edge of the modified airfoil, $t_{TE}/t_{max}$, is newly defined to analyze the effects of the blunt trailing edge. The shape functions describing the upper and lower surfaces of the modified NACA64-418 with blunt trailing edge are obtained from the curve fitting of the least square method. To verify the accuracy of the present numerical analysis, the results are first compared with the experimental data of NACA64-418 with high Reynolds number, $Re=6{\times}10^6$, measured in the Langley low-turbulence pressure tunnel. Then, the aerodynamic performance of the modified NACA64-418 is analyzed. The numerical results show that the drag increases, but the lift increases insignificantly, as the trailing edge of the airfoil is thickened. Re-circulation bubbles also develop and increase gradually in size as the thickness ratio of the trailing edge is increased. These re-circulations result in an increase in the drag of the airfoil. The pressure distributions around the modified NACA64-418 are similar, regardless of the thickness ratio of the blunt trailing edge.
It has been proposed that wide individual variation in response to heparin be not considered in the conventional set protocol for the control of heparin and protamine during extracorporeal circulation. In this paper, two protocol of heparin and protamine therapy were compared to assess the role of the Activated Clotting Time [ACT] in relation to heparin, protamine, and postoperative blood loss and transfusion. The study groups consisted of the 31 patients [adults 15 and children 16] anticoagulated with the conventional heparin protocol and the 31 patients [adults 15 and children 16] anticoagulated with ACT protocol during extracorporeal circulation. In the conventional heparin protocol, two mg of heparin per kg was administered initially with an additional 0.75 mg of heparin per kg every 30 minutes of extracorporeal circulation, and reversal was accomplished with protamine in a dose of 1.5 times the total milligram of heparin. In the ACT protocol, two mg of heparin per kg was administered initially with an additional dose of heparin enough to reach an ACT of 480 seconds [within safe zone 300 to 600 seconds] from the patient`s dose response curve every 1 hour of extracorporeal circulation, and reversal was done with protamine in a dose of 1.3 times the milligram of the residual heparin. The results were summarized as follows. After a dose of 2 mg per kg of heparin, the patient`s ACT varied from 240 to 600 seconds in adults and from 240 t~ 660 seconds in children. In the ACT group the total amount of heparin administered was markedly reduced when compared to the conventional group, and less protamine was required to neutralize heparin. The dose of heparin administered decreased from 7.07 [SE 0.42] mg/kg of the conventional group to 4.92 [SE 0.32] mg/k8 of the ACT group in adults and from 10.17 [SE 1.15] mg/kg to 5.23 [SE 0.24] mg/kg in children, which represent 30.4% and 48.6% decrease respectively. The dose of protamine administered for reversal decreased from 10.6 [SE 0.63] mg/kg of the conventional group to 3.35 [SE 0.35] mg/kg of the ACT group in adults and from 15.7 [SE 1.70] mg/kg to 3.26 [SE 0.27] mg/kg in children, which represent 68.4% and 79.2% respectively. The ratio of protamine to heparin administered in the conventional group was 1.50:1 in adults and 1.54:1 in children, but in the ACT group 0.68:1 in adults and 0.62:1 in children. Postoperative blood loss and transfusion revealed no statistically significant difference between the two groups. Although six patients in the conventional group and one in the ACT group needed re-exploration for continuous hemorrhage, no case of generalized oozing was encountered, and in each case a definite bleeding site was identified. Author would like emphasizing the value of the ACT protocol in controlling heparin and protamine administration during extracorporeal circulation.

The focus of this study is the promotion of green area volumes and their naturalness, water circulation system, decline of entropy, creation of biological habitats and linkage of separated urban green space. Re-presentative urban biotope survey sites were categorized as urban biotope, semi-natural biotope, and natural forest. In the urban biotope, a residential biotope was constructed near the Han river and in mountain areas. The green-area ratio at the housing complex was about 25%. GVZ(Grunvolumenzahl) was 0.35m$^3$/m$^2$ at the 5∼10-story housing complex, and 1.53m$^3$/m$^2$ over the 11-story. As for the green-area structure of the housing complex, canopy layer, understory layer, and shrub layer were not differentiated and the green-area volume was not high enough. The green-area ratio of school areas as a public area biotope was 5∼20%. GVZ was 1.12m$^3$/m$^2$ at Myungduk High School, and 1.78m$^3$/m$^2$ at Jeonggok Elementary School. In order to convert the urban biotope into an ecological area, green areas around the buildings should be connected to urban buffer green areas, and multi-layer structures should be established with natural plant species. In the semi-natural biotope, neighbor parks were created park in the vicinity of the natural forests. GVZ was 0.28m$^3$/m$^2$, and plantation was established with single layer structure and was definitely insufficient for the area. The urban buffer green areas have been established in strip corridors with the width of 20∼123m. In those areas, GVZ was 0.16∼0.27m$^3$/m$^2$ and had a deficient canopy layer, understory layer, and shrub layer. Soil conditions were not favorable for tree growth. In the natural biotope, GVZ of the plantation was 1.03∼1.5m$^3$/m$^2$ but the high crown closure of this area reduces the chance of species change and succession. GVZ of natural forest was 2.53∼2.57m$^3$/m$^2$. It is desirable to plant diverse plants and the natural forest should be succeeded by broad-leaf deciduous tree species. To improve the value of biotope at Kangseo-Gu, building height needs to be limited to reduce the environmental deterioration in the city. In order to maintain the water circulation system, water-permeable material is recommened when the urban surface areas are paved. The establishment of a water circulation system will improve ground water levels, soil moisture, water quality, and habitats. In order to improve biological diversity, it is desirable to have multi-layer structures in urban green areas with native species.

Recently, interest in research and development (R&D) investment decisions have increased among Korean domestic enterprises. However, existing R&D investment studies only focused on government R&D investment policies while only a few studies investigated firm level R&D investment. Prior literatures also overlooked the feedback loop between R&D investment and firm performance. Therefore, this paper identifies a system dynamics model for R&D investment decision making in domestic electronics firms. The conceptual model is derived from R&D investment-related theories found in bodies of literature on company performance, enterprise activity, and market maturity. This study investigates the dynamic feedback between R&D activities and sales using the system dynamics model. In other words, the system dynamics model is used to explain the change in the closed feedback circulation structure in R&D investment activities including technology development, production process, and marketing that subsequently result in sales increase and re-investment into R&D from the generated revenues. There are two major results. First, a similar ratio of investment on technology development and production process derives the higher company sales. Second, regardless of market maturity, marketing investment ratio positively affects sales and R&D budget growth. This study provides a system dynamics model to find the optimal ratio for R&D investment and suggests managerial strategic implications on electronic firm R&D investment decision making under market maturity condition.
An experimental study was conducted to find the effect of a pilot flame on the flammability of inert-gas-diluted methane and propane. The diffusion pilot flame was formed with propane at the innermost nozzle of a concentric triple co-flow burner. The main diffusion flame was formed with nitrogen-diluted methane or propane at the outermost nozzle of the burner. An air flow was located in-between. The results showed that the existence of the pilot flame helped stabilizing the main flame even at the flammability limit concentration of nitrogen-diluted fuel. The co-flow burner generated re-circulation zones and local variation of equivalence ratio depending on the flow rates of the reactants, which are known to help flame stabilization. Hot-wire experiments confirmed that both heating of the reactants and supplying of active chemical species by the pilot flame contributed to stabilization of the main flame. The results of this study would suggest a design concept for an efficient SVRU system that minimizes the emission of unburned hydrocarbon fuel from ship fuel tanks.
