In this paper, propagation analysis method in using 3D Ray Tracing propagation model in wireless cell planning is proposed. Through 3D Ray Tracing model, we can predict the distribution of propagation loss of the received signal. For correct and a low complex analysis, Quad Tree and Pre-Ordering and Hash Function algorithms are included in 3D Ray Tracing algorithm. And 3D Ray Tracing model is embodied in CellTREK that is developed by KT and used to plan Wibro system analysis. In CellTREK, propagation analysis is performed and that result is represented in 3D viewer. In numerical results, it is showed that the proposed scheme outperforms Modified HATA model when comparing with measurement data.

In this study, a method to measure the thickness of thin film by EDS (energy dispersive spectroscopy) is suggested. We have developed a model which calculates the thickness of thin film from the characteristic x-ray intensity ratio of the elements in thin film and substrate by considering incident electron beam energy, x-ray generation curve, backscattering and absorption of x-ray, take-off angle of x-ray and tilt angle of the sample. We obtained the relation curve between the film thickness measured experimentally and the x-ray intensity ratio of elements. The film thicknesses calculated from the model agrees quite well with those measured experimentally. Therefore, the thin film thickness can be measured rapidly and accurately by using the model developed in this study and the x-ray intensity ratio obtained in EDS analysis.

Purpose: This study was to evaluate the beam quality of intraoral X-ray equipments used at Yonsei University Dental Hospital (YUDH) using the half value layer (HVL) and the characteristic curve of intraoral standard X-ray film. Materials and Methods : The study was done using the intraoral X -ray equipments used at each clinical department at YUDH. Aluminum filter was used to determine the HVL. Intraoral standard film was used to get the characteristic curve of each intraoral X-ray equipment. Results: Most of the HVLs of intraoral X-ray equipments were higher than the least recommended thickness, but the REX 601 model used at the operative dentistry department and the X-707 model used at the pediatric dentistry department had HVLs lower than the recommended thickness. The slopes of the characteristic curves of films taken using the PANP AS 601 model and REX 601 model at operative dentistry department, the X-70S model of prosthodontic dentistry department, and the REX 601 model at the student clinic were relatively low. Conclusion: HVL and the characteristic curve of X-ray film can be used to evaluate the beam quality of intraoral X-ray equipment. In order to get the best X-ray films with the least radiation exposure to patients and best diagnostic information in clinical dentistry, X -ray equipment should be managed in the planned and organized fashion.
In this paper, a neural network based approach using a self-organizing feature map is proposed for the segmentation of X ray images. A number of algorithms based on such approaches as histogram analysis, region growing, edge detection and pixel classification have been proposed for segmentation of general images. However, few approaches have been applied to X ray image segmentation because of blur of the X ray image and vagueness of its edge, which are inherent properties of X ray images. To this end, we develop a new model based on the neural network to detect objects in a given X ray image. The new model utilizes Mumford-Shah functional incorporating with a modified adaptive SOFM. Although Mumford-Shah model is an active contour model not based on the gradient of the image for finding edges in image, it has some limitation to accurately represent object images. To avoid this criticism, we utilize an adaptive self organizing feature map developed earlier by the authors.[1] It's learning rule is derived from Mumford-Shah energy function and the boundary of blurred and vague X ray image. The evolution of the neural network is shown to well segment and represent. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed method, segmentation of an industrial part is solved and the experimental results are discussed in detail.

An x-ray vision can be a unique method to monitor and analyze the motion of mechanical parts in real time which are invisible from outside. Our problem is to identify the pose, i.e. the position and orientation of an object from x-ray projection images. It is assumed here that the x-ray imaging conditions that include the relative coordinates of the x-ray source and the image plane are predetermined and the object geometry is known. In this situation, an x-ray image of an object at a given pose can be estimated computationally by using a priori known x-ray projection image model. It is based on the assumption that a pose of an object can be determined uniquely to a given x-ray projection image. Thus, once we have the numerical model of x-ray imaging process, x-ray image of the known object at any pose could be estimated ...
A simple ray tracing model is developed to establish the relationship between the distributions of observed visible light and the excited Xe species in a PDP cell. The ray tracing model can obtain the density distribution of the excited Xe species. It shows the two independent discharge modes created during a single period of sustaining discharge. The maximum density of excited Xe species is located about $148{\mu}m$ away from the center of the gap between two sustaining electrodes. We also found the loss rate of VUV photons by comparing the luminance profile predicted in our theoretical model from experimental results. According to calculations based on our model, only about 22 percent of the photons can impinge the phosphor layer.

Modeling and analysis using a ray tracing method for internal defects were described. Reflection and refraction of rays on the interface of defects were modeled using the Harvey model and the Lambertian model. The diffraction on the interface of defects affected the incoming signals and it could evaluate any defects in the matter and its signal would be analyzed with the ray tracing simulation. The simulation results were compared with actual detecting signals and the ray tracing model was shown in good agreement with experimental data. This method has a possibility to be used as wave propagation modeling in non-destructive testing.
NIC@E is the software developed by authors. The program provides the noise level in outdoors due to various noise source types : construction machines including blast sources, railroad vehicles and automobiles. It operates in the Windows system. In this paper, a highway traffic noise has been evaluated using various types of approach : Ray-tracing method, NIRI method, JAS method. In order to compare the noise estimation performance for various models, a measurement is conducted on a 8 lane express highway at the distance of 25 m and 50 m from the lane. The result shows that the ray tracing and JAS model predict the measured value well within 2dB deviaton. The NIRI model, however, underestimates the highway noise level, as the distance between the source and receiver increases.
We use the non-stationary three dimensional two-layer outer gap model to explain gamma-ray emissions from a pulsar magnetosphere. We found out that for some pulsars like the Geminga pulsar, it was hard to explain emissions above a level of around 1 GeV. We then developed the model into a non-stationary model. In this model we assigned a power-law distribution to one or more of the spectral parameters proposed in the previous model and calculated the weighted phase-averaged spectrum. Though this model is suitable for some pulsars, it still cannot explain the high energy emission of the Geminga pulsar. An Inverse-Compton Scattering component between the primary particles and the radio photons in the outer magnetosphere was introduced into the model, and this component produced a sufficient number of GeV photons in the spectrum of the Geminga pulsar.
This paper describes a new algorithm named as ray following algorithm which is applied for high-resolution satellite image simulation. The problems of the conventional ray tracing algorithm are pointed out especially when terrain elevations vary abruptly. The proposed algorithm follows the directional ray vector sequentially and thoroughly in order to determine the crossing point of the ray with the terrain surface. This way of sequential height comparison method is regarded as the only way to obtain accurate surface cross-section when a highly variant digital surface model is used. The experimental results show and compare the validities of the conventional and proposed algorithms.
