To assess the effects of gamma-ray (Co-60) on radiation sensitivity and genetic similarity of the basidiospore and mycelium in oyster mushroom, Pleurotus ostreatus, the D$_{10}$ values and RAPD patterns were analysed. Three strains were isolated from basidiospores (PO-Bl, -B2, and - B3 from 2 kGy irradiation group) and five strains from mycelia (PO-Ml, -M2 from 1 key, PO-M3 from 2 kGy, and PO-M4 and -M5 from 2+1 key irradiation group). The D$_{10}$ values of basidiospore and mycelium of P. Preurotus ostreatus were 1,250 Gy and 500 Gy, respectively. The growth rates of the eight strains on the five media were various and the activities of extracellular chitinases of them were generally higher than those of the control. By the gamma-ray radiation, 22-25% of genetic similarities were changed in the basidiospore strains and 23-36% of them in the mycelium strains. From these results, it seems that the basidiospore could be more radio-resistant than the mycelium of P. ostreatus and that the genetic similarity of the mycelium of P ostrentus could be changed easier than that of the basidiospore by the gamma-ray radiation.ion.
Postharvest diseases cause losses in a wide variety of crops around the world. Irradiation, a useful nonchemical approach, has been used as an alternative treatment for fungicide to control plant fungal pathogens. For a preliminary study, ionizing radiations (gamma, X-ray, or e-beam irradiation) were evaluated for their antifungal activity against Botrytis cinerea, Penicillium expansum, and Rhizopus stolonifer through mycelial growth, spore germination, and morphological analysis under various conditions. Different fungi exhibited different radiosensitivity. The inhibition of fungal growth showed in a dose-dependent manner. Three fungal pathogens have greater sensitivity to the e-beam treatment compared to gamma or X-ray irradiations. The inactivation of individual fungal-viability to different irradiations can be considered between 3-4 kGy for B. cinerea and 1-2 kGy for P. expansum and R. stolonifer based on the radiosensitive and radio-resistant species, respectively. These preliminary data will provide critical information to control postharvest diseases through radiation.
The interfacial coherency of metal organic chemical vapor deposition grown InGaAsP/InP heterostructure wafers was examined and their influences on the optoelectronic properties were investigated in this study. (400) symmetric and (511) asymmetric reflections were employed to measure the lattice coherency. Existence of misfit dislocations was examined by x-ray topography and reverified by photoluminescence (PL) imaging. PI, measurements were performed, and higher PL intensity was obtained for elastically strained samples and lower intensity for plastically deformed samples. The highest PL intensity was obtained for the sample lattice matched at the growth temperature. PL full-width at half maximum (FWHM) was found to depend on the degree of lattice mismatch. A correlatior between x-ray FWHM and PL intensity was empirically established. The results presented demonstrate that the interfacial coherency is of primary significance in affecting the optoelectronic properties through elastic strain and plastic deformation.

In order to reduce the amount of noise component in X-ray imaging system, various reduction techniques were frequently used in the field of diagnostic imaging. Although the previous techniques -such as median, Wiener filters and Anscombe noise reduction technique - were able to reduce the noise, the edge information was still damaged. In order to cope with this problem, total variation (TV) noise reduction technique has been developed and researched. The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the image quality using normalized noise power spectrum (NNPS) and contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) through simulations and experiments with respect to the above-mentioned noise reduction techniques. As a result, not only lowest NNPS value but also highest CNR values were acquired using a TV noise reduction technique. In conclusion, the results demonstrated that TV noise reduction technique is proved as the most practical method to ensure accurate denoising in X-ray imaging system.
Although stationary inverse-geometry digital tomosynthesis (s-IGDT) is able to reduce motion artifacts, image acquisition time and radiation dose, the image quality of the s-IGDT is degraded due to the truncations arisen in projections. Therefore, the effects of geometric and image acquisition conditions in the s-IGDT should be analyzed for improving the image quality and clinical applicability of the s-IGDT system. In this study, the s-IGDT images were obtained with the various X-ray source arrangement types and the various number of projections. The resolution and noise characteristics of the obtained s-IGDT images were evaluated, and the characteristics were compared with those of the conventional DT images. The s-IGDT system using linear X-ray source arrangement and 40 projections maximized the image characteristics of resolution and noise, and the corresponding system was superior to the conventional DT system in terms of image resolution. In conclusion, we expect that the s-IGDT system can be used for providing medical images in diagnosis.
In this work, self-absorption correction factor related to the variation of the composition and the density of soil samples were evaluated using the p-type HPGe detector. The validated MCNP5 simulation model of this detector was used to evaluate its Full Energy Peak Efficiency (FEPE) under the variation of the composition and the density of the analysed samples. The results indicates that FEPE calculation of low gamma ray is affected by the composition and the density of soil samples. The self-absorption correction factors for different gamma-ray energies which was fitted as a function of FEPEs via density and energy and fitting parameters as polynomial function for the logarithm neper of gamma ray energy help to calculate quickly the detection efficiency of detector. Factor Analysis for the influence of the element composition in analysed samples on the FEPE indicates the FEPE distribution changes from non-metal to metal groups when the gamma ray energy increases from 92 keV to 238 keV. At energies above 238 keV, the FEPE primarily depends only on the metal elements and is significantly affected by aluminium and silicon composition in soil samples.

This study was conducted to compare the effects of two forms of radiation (electron and X-ray; generated by an electron beam accelerator) on the conformation and antigenic properties of hen's egg albumin, ovalbumin (OVA), which was used as a model protein. OVA solutions (2.0 mg/mL) were individually irradiated by electron beam or X-ray at the absorbed doses of 0 (control), 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 kGy. No differences between the two forms of radiation on the structural properties of OVA were shown by spectrometric and electrophoretic analyses. The turbidity of OVA solution increased and the main OVA bands on polyacrylamide gels disappeared after irradiation, regardless of the radiation source. In competitive indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, OVA samples irradiated by electron beam or X-ray showed different immunological responses in reactions with monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies (immunoglobulin G) produced against non-irradiated OVA. The results indicate that electron beam irradiation and X-ray irradiation produced different patterns of structural changes to the OVA molecule.
Long-term complications such as loosening, wear, osteolytic lesion and granulomatous reaction by foreign bodies can occur, after total hip arthroplasty. The implantation alignment effects dislocation and wear, according to its amount and direction. Wear particles in total hip arthroplasty brings about biochemical complications such as osteolysis or send wear. In this sense, it is important to regularly check wear and alignment of total hip replacement. Because the wear in followup of 10 years may remain in a small amount, like a 1 or 2 mm generally, somewhat precise measurement tool has to be established. The wear and alignment measurement softwares commercially available currently lack in project saving or reproducibility. This study suggests a reliable method for the measurement using an X-ray image and a CAD software. The proposed method can be executed only if having a CAD software under most of current general clinical radiographical environment. The proposed was revealed through tests for the method to have accuracy of 0.06 mm with precision of 0.05 mm for wear measurement, and precision of 0.27 degrees for tilt measurement.
The effects of Asaddition in amorphous selenium(a-Se) films for digital X-ray conversion material have been studied using the moving photocarrier grating(MPG) technique. This method utilizes the moving interference pattern generated by the superposition of the two frequency shifted laser beams for the illumination of the sample. This moving intensity grating induces a short circuit current, j$_{sc}$ in a-Se:As film. The transport parameters of the sample are extracted from the grating-velocity dependent short circuit current induced in the sample along the modulation direction. The electron and hole mobility, and recombination lifetime of a-Se films with arsenic(As) additions have been obtained. We have found an Increase in hole drift mobility and recombination lifetime, especially when 0.3% As is added into a-Se film, whereas electron mobility decreases with As addition due to the defect density. The transport properties for As doped a-Se films obtained by using MPG technique have been compared with X-ray sensitivity for a-Se:As device. The fabricated a-Se(0.3% As) device film exhibited the highest X-ray sensitivity out of 5 samples.

In order to improve the hydrophilic property on the surface of d-PMMA(deuterated poly-(methyl methacrylate)) film, it was exposed to oxygen plasma, All experimental conditions were same except to plasma exposure time that was varied from 0 to 180 s, The effects according to the exposure time were identified using contact angles, X-ray reflectometer(XRR), neutron reflectometer(NR), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS). By confirming that as the exposure time increases, water contact angle decreases while the composition of oxygen increases, it was confirmed that the composition of oxygen has a huge influence on improving the hydrophilic property. The physical characters as a function of the exposure time were investigated by the XRR. By analyzing complementally the results of the XRR, NR, and XPS, more detailed chemical bonding conditions were studied by obtaining not only composition of the carbon and oxygen but that of the hydrogen.
