  • The mechanical behavior of two rectangular spot-welded plates under bending is investigated in detail. The equivalent thickness of spot-welded plates is introduced in this study and used in explaining the results. The focus of the analysis is to evaluate the effect of spot-welding from the view point of equivalent thickness. The investigation of deflection has been performed as comparing the result from finite element analysis with the measured data of the spot-welded plates for various parameters, such as aspect ratio, area ratio, and distance ratio of spot-welding points. The effect of spot-welding is as large as 62%(at r=1.0) when the area ratio of spot-welding point is just 4.52%.

  • The load sharing ratio (${\alpha}_{pr}$) of piles is one of the most common problems in the preliminary design of piled raft foundations. A series of 3D numerical analysis are conducted so that special attentions are given to load sharing characteristics under varying conditions, such as pile configuration, pile diameter, pile length, raft thickness, and settlement level. Based on the 3D FE analysis, influencing factors on load sharing behavior of piled raft are investigated. As a result, it is shown that the load sharing ratio of piled raft decreases with increasing settlement level. The load sharing ratio is not only highly dependent on the system geometries of the foundation but also on the settlement level. Based on the results of parametric studies, the load sharing ratio is proposed as a function of the various influencing factors. In addition, the parametric analyses suggest that the load sharing ratios to minimize the differential settlement of piled raft are ranging from 15 to 48% for friction pile and from 15 to 54% for end-bearing pile. The recommendations can provide a basis for an optimum design that would be applicable to piled rafts taking into account the load sharing characteristics.

  • Torsional irregularity is one of the most probable types of horizontal irregularity and existence of this irregularity in most of the structural loading codes is determined by calculating the ratio of the maximum to the average story drift. No specific method has been previously recommended by the codes to calculate the mentioned ratio in the response spectrum analyses. In the current investigation, nine steel building structures with different plan layouts and number of stories have been analyzed and designed in order to evaluate the efficiency of three methods for calculating the ratio of the maximum to the average story drift in the response spectrum analyses. It should be noted that one of these methods is the approach used by current version of ETABS software andother ones are proposed in this paper. The obtained results using the proposed methods are compared with the time history analysis results. The comparisons show that one of these methods underestimates the mentioned ratio in all studied models, however, the other two methods have shown similar results. It is also found that the plan layouts and irregularities can affect how these methods estimate the ratios compared to those obtained by the time history analysis. Generally, it can be concluded that all of these methods can properly predict the ratio with acceptable errors.

  • The purpose of this paper is to study shear locking-free analysis of thick plates using Mindlin's theory and to determine the effects of the thickness/span ratio, the aspect ratio and the boundary conditions on the linear responses of thick plates subjected to uniformly distributed loads. Finite element formulation of the equations of the thick plate theory is derived by using higher order displacement shape functions. A computer program using finite element method is coded in C++ to analyze the plates clamped or simply supported along all four edges. In the analysis, 8- and 17-noded quadrilateral finite elements are used. Graphs and tables are presented that should help engineers in the design of thick plates. It is concluded that 17-noded finite element converges to exact results much faster than 8-noded finite element, and that it is better to use 17-noded finite element for shear-locking free analysis of plates. It is also concluded, in general, that the maximum displacement and bending moment increase with increasing aspect ratio, and that the results obtained in this study are better than the results given in the literature.

  • This paper carried out numerical analysis for estimating the propulsion performance of the model scale ONRT benchmark model of'Tokyo 2015 a workshop on CFD'. The method reflecting the scale effect of ITTC'78 method and form factor were used to compare the estimates of the effective wake ratio of full-scale. The numerical calculation was performed with Siemens's Star-CCM+, compared with IIHR model tests and the numerical analysis results of other research institutes, showing good agreement. In the case of an open stern and twin skeg ship, the validity of the ITTC'78 method can be confirmed by assuming that the effective wake ratio estimated from the numerical analysis results of model scale is similar to the effective wake ratio of full-scale.

  • Applying a general Galerkin FE lubrication analysis method to spiral groove dry gas seals, this study intends to analyze in detail the effects of groove design parameters, such as a spiral angle, groove width ratio, groove radius ratio, groove depth ratio, and groove taper ratio, on the lubrication performances of an opening force, leakage, axial stiffness and damping, and angular stiffness and damping at low and high rotating speeds: 3,600 and 15,000 nm. Results show that, for the primary design consideration performances such as the opening force and axial and angular stiffnesses, a spiral angle of $25^{\circ}$, a groove width ratio of 0.46, a groove radius ratio of 1.1, a groove depth ratio of 1.0, and a groove taper ratio of 0.0 are preferred. Where the recommended relatively low values of groove depth and taper ratios are to keep the axial and angular dampings positive or higher than 0 particularly at the high rotating speed.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the hydrologic cycle environment of Gyeongui Line Forest Park, a linear city park, in order to improve hydrologic cycle systems in urban areas. The method of the study is the Biotope Area Ratio and the Permeable ratio survey. The study subject is the Gyeongui Line Forest Park, created in 2016 as a linear park in Seoul. The results showed that the Biotope Area Ratio improved by 31.2% (31,927㎡) from 35.7% (36,480㎡) in 2000 to 66.9% (68,407㎡) in 2019 on a site area of 102,117㎡. Next, the Permeable ratio improved by 43.8% from 29.0% to 72.8%, and the impermeable ratio decreased by 43.8% from 71.0% to 27.2%. The Biotope Area Ratio exceeded the target ratio of 60% by 6.9%, set by the Ministry of Environment. The ratio of green space exceeded the target ratio of 60%, by 4.0%. And so they contributed to the improvement of the hydrologic cycle by the creation of the Gyeongui Line Forest Park. Urban parks need to exceed the Biotope Area Ratio and the green area ratio of the legal standards, especially when creating large parks of over 100,000 square meters, in the era of climate change. It is necessary to continuously plant trees in the space where trees can be planted, and to contribute to the improvement of the hydrologic cycle system and urban heat island effect by conducting three-dimensional.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors for service contracts that affect the successful bid price rate, focusing on the case of the country market. In the study, ordering organizations and bidders differentiated themselves from existing studies by analyzing service contracts that affect the successful bid price rate in a wide range of country markets. Comparative analysis of the awarding price ratio for services, this work provides a comparable result to the existing results in the previous literature. The analytical model used five independent variables such as budget, contract method, the days of the public notice, the awarding method, and the lowest awarding ratio. In the survey and analysis, big data was collected using text mining for service bids for Nara Market over the past 18 years and data was analyzed in a multi-dimensional way. The results of the analysis are as follows, (1) if budget does not determine the awarding price ratio. This is not the case in small amounts. (2) The contract method affects the awarding price ratio. (3) The days of the public notice increase, the awarding price ratio decrease. (4) the awarding method affects the awarding price ratio. (5) The lowest awarding ratio determines the awarding price ratio. Based on the results of empirical analysis, policy implications were sought.
