  • This study analyzed the inflow characteristics of debris flow according to shape of defensive structure and computed risk index. In order to simulate debris flow, two shapes of defensive structure were considered. Initial mass distribution was set with a rectangular shape and defensive structures were set semi-circular shape and rectangular shape, respectively. It was found that a defensive structure with semicircular shape was more vulnerable to debris impact compared with rectangular shape because the flow mass became concentrated in quadrant part of the inner circle. If the velocity of the debris flow was less than 1 m/s, the risk assessment by FII (Flood Intensity Index) was much appropriate. However, when the movement of debris runout was faster than 1 m/s, the risk index of FHR (Flood Hazard Rating) provided improved classification due to its subdivided hazardous range.

  • Accurate and timely information on status and trends in the environment is necessary to shape sound water quality management policy and to implement water quality improvement programs efficiently. One of the most effective ways to communicate information on water quality trends to policy-makers, scientists, and the general public is with comprehensive water quality indices. The derivation and structure of a water quality index (WQI) for the classification of surface water quality is discussed. The WQI generally developed through the selection, transformation and weighting of determinants with rating curves based on legal standards and quality directives or guidelines. The representative pollutants should be included in the index, and the relationship between the quantity of these pollutants in the water and the resulting quality of the water should be based on scientific results. The WQI be simply and meaningfully formulated that nonscientifically trained users can easily become familiar with the framework of the system and use the output data to evaluate their own pollution problems.

  • Quality in smart learning is composed of many factors, and it is more complicated than the traditional education. This study put emphasis on three aspects of the smart learning quality(contents, systems, services). This study depended mostly on literature review, supplemented by FGI(Focus Group Interview) for classification of the smart learning quality factors. On a 5 point Likert scale, the survey enables the users to rate the relative importance of factors, followed by another factor performance rating. The questionnaire were composed of 39 questions. 8 questionnaire sheets were excluded which were not properly filled in or unsuitable for the analysis, and therefore, a total of 112 questionnaires were used for the final analysis. Collected data was statistically analyzed using the SPSS 18.0 for Windows statistical package. Importance-performance analysis(IPA; gap between importance and performance) is used for the empirical test.

  • The physical condition assessment criteria of fill dam safety inspection are now weakly regulated and inappropriate for small agricultural reservoirs since these criteria have fundamental backgrounds suitable for large-scale dams. This study proposes the degree (critical values) of defects for the quantitative condition assessment of the embankment in order to prepare the condition assessment criteria for a small reservoir with a storage capacity of less than one (1) million cubic meters. The critical values of defects were calculated by applying the method that considers the size ratios based on the dimensional data of reservoirs, and the method of statistical analysis on the measured values of the defect degree which extracted from comprehensive annual reports on reservoir safety inspection. In comparison with the current criteria, the newly proposed critical values for each condition assessment item of the reservoir embankment are presented in paragraphs 4 and 6 of the conclusion. In addition, this study presents a method of displaying geometric figures to clarify the rating classification for condition assessment items with the two defect indicators.

  • From the past to the present, reviews have had much influence on consumers' purchasing decisions. Companies are making various efforts, such as introducing a review incentive system to increase the number of reviews. Recently, as various types of reviews can be left, reviews have begun to be recognized as interesting new content. This way, reviews have become essential in creating loyal customers. Therefore, research and utilization of reviews are being actively conducted. Some studies analyze reviews to discover customers' needs, studies that upgrade recommendation systems using reviews, and studies that analyze consumers' emotions and attitudes through reviews. However, research that predicts the future using reviews is insufficient. This study used a dataset consisting of two reviews written in pairs with differences in usage periods. In this study, the direction of consumer product evaluation is predicted using KoBERT, which shows excellent performance in Text Deep Learning. We used 7,233 reviews collected to demonstrate the excellence of the proposed model. As a result, the proposed model using the review text and the star rating showed excellent performance compared to the baseline that follows the majority voting.

  • Objectives Most of the acupuncture or dry needling points for trigger finger were limited around the metacarpophalangeal joint, A1 pulley, and flexor muscle tendon. Thus, this study aimed to report a case of a patient with trigger thumb which improved using dry needling on additional muscle points. Methods The author has investigated why additional points are needed including what its accompanying effects are. Dry needling and electro-dry needling have been conducted based on anatomical structure. Moreover, a follow-up observation was performed twice to evaluate if the effects of this treatment have been maintained. Treatment progress was evaluated using a numeric rating scale (NRS) and Quinnell's classification of trigger finger. Results After 28 days of treatment, NRS and Quinnell's trigger grade decreased significantly without adverse effects. The treatment effect has been maintained until follow-up observation. Conclusions Additional points are recommended for the radical treatment of trigger finger.

  • A series of geotechnical surveys and in-situ tests were carried out to evaluate the stability of underground mine cave in an abandoned coal mine. After the closure of the mine, the underground mine drifts have been utilized for a tourist route since 1999. The dimension of the main cave is 5m width, 3m height and 230m length. The surrounding rock mass of the cave is consist of black shale, coal and limestone. Also, the main cave is intersected by two fault zone. Detailed field investigations including Rock Mass Rating(RMR), Geological Strength Index(GSI) and Q classification were performed to evaluate the stability of the main cave and to examine the necessity of reinforcement. Based on the results of rock mass classification and numerical analysis, suitable support design was recommended for the main cave. RMR and Q values of the rock masses were classified in the range of fair to good. According to the support categories proposed by Grimstad & Barton(1993), these classes fall in the reinforcement category of the Type 3 to Type 1. A Type 3 reinforcement category signifies systematic bolting and no support is necessary for the Type 1 case. From the result of numerical analysis, it was inferred that additional support on the several unstable blocks is required to ensure stability of the cave.

  • The mechanism of emotion is complex and influenced by a variety of factors, so that it is crucial to analyze emotion in broad and diversified perspectives. In this study, we classified neutral and negative emotions(sadness, fear, surprise) using arousal evaluation, which is one of the psychological evaluation scales, as well as physiological signals. We have not only revealed the difference between physiological signals coupled to the emotions, but also assessed how accurate these emotions can be classified by our emotional recognizer based on neural network algorithm. A total of 146 participants(mean age $20.1{\pm}4.0$, male 41%) were emotionally stimulated while their physiological signals of the electrocardiogram, blood flow, and dermal activity were recorded. In addition, the participants evaluated their psychological states on the emotional rating scale in response to the emotional stimuli. Heart rate(HR), standard deviation(SDNN), blood flow(BVP), pulse wave transmission time(PTT), skin conduction level(SCL) and skin conduction response(SCR) were calculated before and after the emotional stimulation. As a result, the difference between physiological responses was verified corresponding to the emotions, and the highest emotion classification performance of 86.9% was obtained using the combined analysis of arousal and physiological features. This study suggests that negative emotion can be categorized by psychological and physiological evaluation along with the application of machine learning algorithm, which can contribute to the science and technology of detecting human emotion.
