In general, in an emergency generator system for an electric facility including an induction motor load, an emergency power generation facility larger than the facility load capacity is built due to the initial starting current of the induction motor. In order to reduce this economic burden, various methods to reduce the inrush current of induction motors are applied to suppress the additional expansion of generators due to the reduction of power generation facilities and the increase in electrical facilities. Among these methods, when a system with a built-in soft start function of an induction motor using an inverter is built, it is the best way to reduce the inrush current of the induction motor to less than the rated current. However, in this case, the installation cost of the inverter to drive the induction motor increases. This paper proposes a soft start method of an induction motor by expanding the frequency and voltage control operation area of an emergency generator. In addition, proposed a speed calculation method based on power factor information, which is essential information for stable soft start of an induction motor, and a method for generating a speed command value of the governor for starting with maximum torque.
Since a squirrel cage induction motor by NEMA Design types is designed to withstand full-voltage starting, direct starting method can be the most economical one. Starting a squirrel cage motor from standstill by connecting it directly across the line may allow inush currents of approximately 500-600% of rated current at lagging power factor of 35-50%. For many of the large motors, the starting inrush current may be great enough to cause voltage dips, which may adversely affect the building's lighting system. Electric utilities also have restrictions on starting currents, so that voltage fluctuations can be held to prescribed limits. Therefore the need for choosing the most appropriate method of motor starting is quite essential. In this paper, we proposed a plan for the selection of the most appropriate motor starting method, first by way of numeric simulation using manufacturer's data and second by way of actual experience. So far, more often than not, the selection of motor starting method has been accomplished only as regards to the capacity of the motor and the frequency of starting and stopping. But nowadays such high-tech apparatus as soft starters are being developed, and we are on the position to give more attention to clarify the way of selection of the motor starting method.
We investigated the damage of the TTL ICs which manufactured five different technologies by artificial microwave. The artificial microwave was rated at a microwave output from 0 to 1000W, at a frequency of 2.45GHz. The microwave power was extracted into a standard rectangular waveguide(WR-340) and TTL ICs were located into the waveguide. TTL ICs were damaged two types. One is breakdown which means no physical damage is done to the system and after a reset the system is going back into function. The other is destruction which means a physical damage of the system so that the system will not recover without a hardware repair. TTL SN74S08N and SN74ALS08N devices get a breakdown and destruction occurred but TTL SN74LS08N, SN74AS08N and 74F08N devices get a destruction occurred. Also destructed TTL ICs were removed their surface and a chip conditions were analyzed by SEM. The SEM analysis of the damaged devices showed onchipwire and bondwire destruction like melting due to thermal effect. The tested results expect to be applied to the fundamental data which interprets the combination mechanism of the semiconductors from artificial microwave environment.
Induction motors are widely used as a source of driving force in electric vehicles and pulse width modulation (PWM) inverters are applied to their operation. The issue is that insulation of inverter-fed induction motors (IFMs) are more stressed than in line-powered motors by transient voltages. This paper dealt with experimental results on transient voltage produced by the PWM operation of an induction motor. The peak and the dv/dt of transient voltage depending on the length of power feeding cable and operating frequency were investigated. In the experiment, transient voltages up to 3.3PU of the rated-inverter voltage were recorded for the cable length of 50m. As the cable length is increased, the peak voltage appeared at the motor terminals increases. This phenomenon can be explained by the reflection and the transmission of travelling wave. Consequently, special care for the cable length between the motor and the inverter should be taken in the use of IFM to ensure the full life of insulation system.

Energy consumption savings in buildings should be reviewed in diverse areas such as air conditioning system and lighting responsible for cooling and heating, and energy management systems such as BAS (Building Automation System) and BEMS (Building Energy Management System) are introduced to improve energy consumption efficiency and to promote economic control of related facilities by integrated management of energy generated and consumption in buildings. The measured building of this study uses regenerative geothermal system. Measured values of heat pump and system COP were 4.7 and 4.2 respectively, and they were found to be higher 11.9% and 23.5% than rated values. As a result of analyzing the air conditioning and lighting energy from the first floor to the fourth floor performing the air conditioning, the second and third floors, which have a high frequency of use, are compared with the first and fourth floors 50% higher energy consumption ratio. On the other hand, the general heat storage system uses the nighttime power of the previous day to store heat and use it the next day. The total number of days of abnormal operation during the summer season is 61 days. The electricity cost corresponding to the abnormal operation is 1,840,641 KRW, and the normal operation using the nighttime power is 1,363,561 KRW, which is difference of 477,080 KRW, 35% increase in cost. We will utilize it as the main data of BEMS through analysis of winter operation characteristics as well as summer operation characteristics.
ESS(Energy Storage System) is an important source that keeps power supply stable and utilizes electricity efficiently. For example, ESS contributes to resolve power supply imbalance, stabilize new renewable energy output and regulate frequency. ESS is predicted to be expanded to 55.9GWh of installed capacity by 2023, which is 30 times more than that of 2014. To raise competitiveness of domestic ESS industry in this increasing world market, we have disseminated load-shift ESS for continuous power supply imbalance with FR ESS, and also necessity to secure domestic track record is required. However in case of FR ESS, utility of installing thermal power plant is generally generated within 5% range of rated capacity, so that scalability of domestic market is low without dramatic increase of thermal power plant. Necessity of load-shift ESS dissemination is also decreasing effected by surplus backup power securement policy, raising demand for new dissemination model. New dissemination model is promising for $CO_2$ reduction effect in spite of intermittent output. By stabilizing new renewable energy output in connection with new renewable energy, and regulating system input timing of new renewable energy generation rate, it is prospected model for 'post-2020' regime and energy industry. This research presents a policy alternatives of REC multiplier calculation method to induce investment after outlining PV-connected ESS charge/discharge mode to reduce GHG emission, This alternative is projected to utilize GHG emission reduction methodology for 'Post-2020' regime, big issue of new energy policy.

To establish a floating offshore wind turbine simulation model, a tension leg platform is added to an onshore wind turbine. The wind load is calculated by using meteorological administration data and a power law that defines the wind velocity according to the height from the sea surface. The wind load is applied to the blade and wind tower at a regular distance. The relative Morison equation is employed to generate the wave load. The rated rotor speed (18 rpm) is applied to the hub as a motion. The dynamic behavior of a 2-MW floating offshore wind turbine subjected to the wave excitation and wind load is analyzed. The flexible effects of the wind tower and the blade are analyzed. The flexible model of the wind tower and blade is established to examine the natural frequency of the TLP-type offshore wind turbine. To study the effect of the flexible tower and blade on the floating offshore wind turbine, we modeled the flexible tower model and flexible tower-blade model and compared it with a rigid model.

In recent years, the energy storage systems such as LiB, NaS, RFB(Redox-Flow Battery), Super- capacitor, pumped hydro storage, flywheel, CAES(Compressed Air Energy Storage) and so on have received great attention as practical solutions for the power supply problems. They can be used for various purpose of peak shaving, load leveling and frequency regulation, according to the characteristics of each ESS(energy storage system). This paper will focus at 1 MWh RFB system, which is being developed through the original technology project of energy material. The output of ESS is mainly characterized by C-rate, which means that the total rated capacity of battery will be delivered in 1 hour. And it is a very important factor in the ESS operation scheduling. There can be several options according to the operation intervals 15, 30 and 60minutes. The operation scheduling is based on the optimization to minimize the daily electricity cost. This paper analyzes the cost-saving effects by the each operating time-interval in case that the RFB ESS is optimally scheduled for peak shaving and load leveling.
This study analyzes the operational characteristics of 311 aged and non-aged residual current circuit breakers (RCCBs) in low-voltage consumer contexts. It investigates the influence of external temperature and harmonics based on the rated current multiples. To simulate temperature variations, a convectional oven was used around the circuit breakers. Additionally, the generation of harmonic reference signals and data measurement for overcurrent experiments were conducted using NI SCXI, myDAQ, and LabVIEW. An observation revealed that as the ambient temperature increased, the operating time of RCCBs decreased in the time delay region. This was attributed to the faster response or bending of the bimetal, which is the tripping element. However, aged RCCBs encountered challenges with tripping outside the protective curve. The operating time of the circuit breakers exhibited an acceleration influenced by the order and content of harmonic currents, potentially leading to malfunctions. Aged RCCBs demonstrated faster operating times than their non-aged counterparts. However, the difference in operating time varied based on the manufacturer's and operating environment of the RCCBs. Frequent malfunctions of RCCBs can result in power outages. In cases where these circuit breakers fail to operate, they can lead to secondary damages, including electrical fires and shocks. Consequently, it is imperative to consider the operating environment of RCCBs and provide appropriate replacement cycles to mitigate these risks.
