급속응고한 Ag-Sn-In 합금의 미세조직에 미치는 Misch Metal의 영향 (The Effect of Misch Metal on the Microstructure of Rapidly solidified Ag-Sn-In Alloys)

  • Because of a good wear resistance and a stable contact resistance, Ag-CdO is widely used as electrical contact material. But, the Cd-oxide mainly exists as a coarse particle and adversely affected to environment. As a reason, $Ag-SnO_2$ alloy has been developed. The Sn-oxide maintains stable and fine particle even at high temperature. In order to investigate the effect of Misch metal (Mm) additional that affects the formation of the oxide and the formation of fine matrix Ag, we studied the microstructures and properties of Ag-Sn-In(-Mm) material fabricated by rapid solidification process. The experimental procedure were melting using high frequency induction, melt spinning, and internal oxidation. The Mm addition makes Ag matrix more fine than no Mm addition. The reason is that the addition of Misch metal decreased a latent heat of fusion of alloy, as a result the rapid solidification effect of alloy is increased. The maximum hardness shows at 0.3 wt%Mm. after that the hardness is decreased until 0.4 wt% Mm, but still larger than no Mm addition alloy. At 0.5 wt% Mm alloy, the precipitation of Misch metal causes a decrease of hardness than no Mm addition alloy.

  • Direct Laser Melting (DLM) of $Ti-xTiH_2$ (mixing ratio x = 2, 5, 10 wt.%) blended powder is characterized by producing porous titanium parts. When a high energy laser is irradiated on a $Ti-TiH_2$ blended powder, hydrogen gas ($H_2$) is produced by the accompanying decomposition of the $TiH_2$ powder, and acts as a pore-forming and activator. The hydrogen gas trapped in a rapidly solidified molten pool, which generates porosity in the deposited layer. In this study, the effects of a $TiH_2$ mixing ratio and the associated processing parameters on the development of a porous titanium were investigated. It was determined that as the content of $TiH_2$ increases, the resulting porosity density also increases, due to the increase of $H_2$ produced by $TiH_2$. Also, porosity increases as the scan speed increases. As fast solidified melting pools do not provide enough time for $H_2$ to escape, the faster the scan speed, the more the resulting $H_2$ is captured by the process. The results of this study show that the mixing ratio (x) and laser machining parameters can be adjusted to actively generate and control the porosity of the DLM parts.

  • 소량의 Zn및 Sn분말을 급냉응고된 NdFeB 자성합금 분말에 첨가한 후 CA-press공정에 의해 등방성 자석을 제조하고, 제조된 등방성 자석을 CA-deformation 공정에 의해 소성변형시켜 이방성 자석을 제조하였다. 원료분말만을 밀링하여 사용한 경우, 밀링시간에 관계없이 잔류자화값은 일정하였으며, 보자력은 초기원료 분말을 그대로 사용하는 경우에 비하여 감소하였다. 이에 반해 소량의 Zn및 Sn분말을 첨가하고 볼밀링에 의하여 혼합한 분말로부터 제조된 등방성 자석 및 이방성 자석의 보자력은 첨가원소가 없는 경우의 시편보다 증가하였으며, 0.3wt.% Zn및 Sn이 첨가된 이방성 자석에서는 보자력이 5kOe 정도 증가하였다.

  • Ag-Cd alloy has been widely used as an electrical contact material, since Ag-Cd alloy has a good wear resistance and stable contact resistance. But nowadays Ag-Cd alloy is not considered as electrical contact material any more due to detrimental effect on environments. Currently, active researches are being performed on ($Ag-SnO_2$ and $Ag-SnO_{2}-In_{2}O_{3}$) as an alternative solution which can fix the remaining environmental problems. However, $In_{2}O_{3}$ is relatively expensive and Ag-Sn alloy has low wear resistance. Our recent research results show that Ag-X%Zn-Y%Sn has similar physical and chemical properties. In the present study, so we tried to change and to optimize the Zn oxide content to over 6 wt% and Sn oxide content with 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 wt%. Results obtained from the experiments on the Ag-X%ZnO-Y%$SnO_2$ are discussed.

급냉응고된 $Ti_{50}Ni_{20}Cu_{30}$ 합금 스트립의 형상기억특성과 기계적특성 (Shape Memory Characteristics and Mechanical Properties of Rapidly Solidified $Ti_{50}Ni_{20}Cu_{30}$ Alloy Strips)

  • Microstructures and shape memory characteristics of $Ti_{50}Ni_{20}Cu_{30}$ alloy strips fabricated by arc melt overflow have been investigated by means of XRD, optical microscopy and DSC. The microstructure of as-cast strips exhibited columnar grains normal to the strip surface. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that one-step martensitic transformation of B2-B19 occurred in the alloy strips. According to the DSC analysis, it was known that the martensitic transformation temperature ($M_s$) of B2 $\rightarrow$ B19 in $Ti_{50}Ni_{20}Cu_{30}$ strip is $57^{\circ}C$. During thermal cyclic deformation with the applied stress of 60 MPa, transformation hysteresis and elongation associated with the B2-B19 transformation were observed to be $3.7^{\circ}C$ and 1.6%, respectively. The as-cast strip of $Ti_{50}Ni_{20}Cu_{30}$ alloy also showed a superelasticity and its stress hysteresis was as small as 14 MPa. These mechanical properties and shape memory characteristics of the alloy strips were ascribed to B2-B19 transformation and the controlled microstructures produced by rapid solidification of the arc melt overflow process.

  • Contact materials are used in many electrical devices. Ag-Cd alloy has been widely used in electrical part, because Ag-Cd alloy has a good wear resistance and stable contact resistance. But nowadays Ag-Cd alloy isn't being used because of environmental challenges. Currently new research is being done on ($Ag-SnO_2$ and $Ag-SnO_2-In_2O_3$) as an alternative solution to fix any remainly environmental challenges. However $In_2O_3$ is more expensive and Ag-Sn alloy has low wear resistance. According to our research data Zn has a similar physical and chemical property. In this work, so we changed and optimized the Zn oxide to over 4 and added Sn oxide ratio 0.5, 1.0, 1.5wt%. Conclusions from the data recorded from the experiment of $Ag-ZnO-SnO_2$ are as follows.

스트립캐스팅한 구상흑연주철박판의 합금원소 및 열처리에 따른 미세조직과 기계적 성질의 변화 (Effects of Alloying Elements and Heat Treatments on the Microstructures and Mechanical Properties of Ductile Cast Iron by Strip Casting)

  • Strip casting process is a new technology that makes a near net shape thin strip directly from molten metal. With this process, a large amount of energy and casting cost could be decreased from the abbreviation of reheating and/or hot rolling process. Ductile cast iron which has spheroidal graphite in the matrix is the most commercial and industrial material, because of its supreme strength, toughness, and wear resistance etc. But it cannot be produced to the thin strip owing to difficulty in rolling of ductile cast iron. In this study, ductile cast iron strips are produced by the twin roll strip caster, with different chemical compositions of C, Si, and Mn contents. And then heat-treated, microstructures and mechanical properties are examined. The microstructures of as-cast strip are that of white cast iron which consists of the mixture of cementite and pearlite, but the equiaxed crystal zone of the pearlite or segregation zone of cementite exists in the center region of the strip thickness, which cannot be observed in the rapidly solidified metallic mold cast specimens. This structure is supposed to be formed from the thermal distribution of strip and the rolling force. Comparing with the structures of each strips after heat treatment, increasing Si content makes smaller spheroidal graphite and more compact in the matrix, furthermore the less of Mn content makes the ferrite matrix be obtained clearer and easier. As a result of the tensile test of graphitization heat-treated strips, the yield strengths are about 250 MPa, the tensile strengths are about $430{\sim}500$ MPa, and the elongations are about $10{\sim}13%$. In the case of the strip which has the smaller and more compact spheroidal graphite in the ferrite matrix, the higher tensile strength and better drawability could be obtained.

상변화물질을 충전한 수평원통관 내에서 응고시 열전달특성 (Heat Transfer Characteristics for Inward Solidification in a Horizontal Cylinder Packed with P.C.M.)

  • 본 연구에서는 용융된 파라핀을 채운 수평 원관의 관벽을 냉각할 때에 관내에서 일어나는 열전달현상을 다루었다. 관내의 파라핀을 고상과 액상으로 구분하여 고상층에 대해서는 열전도 모델을, 그리고 액상층에 대해서는 자연대류를 고려한 열전달모델을 세워 수치해석하였고 이 과정에 대한 실험을 행하여 얻은 응고형태로부터 방열량을 계산하였다. 아울러 초기의 용융파라핀의 온도와 관벽의 냉각온도가 응고에 미치는 영향을 고찰하였다. 방열과정에서 액상파라핀의 응고속도를 결정하는 요인은 관벽의 냉각온도와 초기액상온도이나 대부분의 액상현열이 응고 초기에 급속히 방출되기 때문에 관벽의 냉각온도가 지배적인 요인으로 작용하였다. 따라서 방열과정에서의 열전달은 고상층 내의 열전도에 의해서 이루어지게 된다. 실험에서 관찰한 응고형태에서는 상부에 빈 공간이 발견되었다. 이는 초기 액상온도가 응고초기에 급속히 떨어짐으로써 온도에 따른 액상의 밀도차로 인해 생긴 것이다. 고 액간의 밀도차로 인한 수축현상은 응고과정의 전반에 걸쳐서 고르게 일어나므로 그 영향을 응고형태에서 구별하여 파악하기는 어려웠다. Fourier수와 고상의 Stefan수를 종속변수로 사용하면 관벽의 냉각온도와 초기액상온도에 무관하게 응고량을 단일곡선으로 표현할 수 있었다.

Fe-X%Mn-5Cr-5Co-4Si 합금 리본의 변태특성 및 형상기억능에 미치는 열처리 영향 (Influence of Heat Treatment on Transformation Characteristics and Shape Recovery in Fe-X%/Mn-5Cr-5Co-4Si Alloy Ribbons)

  • The change of ribbon geometry, microstructure and shape recovery with Mn contents, wheel speed and various annealing temperature have been studied in Fe-X%Mn-5Cr-5Co-4Si (X%=15, 20, 24) shape memory alloy (SMA) ribbons rapidly solidfied by single roll chill-block melt-spinning process. The thickness and width of melt-spun ribbons are reduced, results in refining and uniformalizing grains with increasing wheel speed. In the ribbons melt-spun at a wheel speed of 15m/sec, both ${\varepsilon}$ and ${\alpha}^{\prime}$martensites are formed in ribbon 1 (15.5wt%Mn), while only ${\varepsilon}$ martensite is revealed in ribbon 2 (20.2wt%Mn) and ribbon 3 (23.5wt%Mn). The volume fraction of ${\varepsilon}$ martensite is decreased with increasing Mn contents, and those of ${\varepsilon}$ as well ${\alpha}^{\prime}$martensites are increased due to thermal stress relief and grain growth with increasing annealing temperature. Ms temperatures of the ribbons 1, 2 and 3 are fallen with increasing Mn contents. $M_s$ temperatures of the ribbons 1, 2 and 3 annealed at $300^{\circ}C$ for 3 min are risen abruptly, but are nearly constant even at higher annealing temperature, i.e., 400, 500 and $600^{\circ}C$ for 3 min. Shape recovery of the ribbons 1, 2 and 3 increased 30%, 52% and 69% with Mn contents, respectively. Shape recovery of ribbon 1 (15.5wt%Mn) formed ${\varepsilon}$ and ${\alpha}^{\prime}$martensites decreased because of the presence of ${\alpha}^{\prime}$martensite but those of ribbon 2 (20.2wt%Mn) and ribbon 3 (23.5wt%Mn) formed ${\varepsilon}$ martensite increased with increasing annealing temperature.

Effect of Critical Cooling Rate on the Formation of Intermetallic Phase During Rapid Solidification of FeNbHfBPC Alloy

  • 진공 가스분사법으로 제조된 Fe75B13P5Nb2Hf1C4 합금의 응고중 액상의 크기와 이에 따른 냉각속도의 변화가 정출상의 형성에 미치는 영향에 대한 고찰을 하였다. 고온 액상에서 동일한 조건으로 응고된 서로 다른 크기의 액상이 구형의 분말형태로 응고될 때 크기에 따른 임계냉각속도의 차이를 계산하였으며, 액상의 평균 반지름이 3배정도 크기 차이가 날 경우 고상으로 변태할 때 임계냉각속도가 13.5배까지 차이가 나는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 임계냉각 속도의 차이에 따른 정출상의 형성과 정출상의 형태와 크기에 따른 탄화물의 형성 거동을 조사하여 열역학 계산으로 예측된 결과와 비교 분석하였으며, 분말입자의 크기가 20~45 마이크론일 경우 Hf과 Nb이 포함된 MC타입의 탄화물이 초정으로 형성 되는 것을 알 수 있었으며 이때 Hf과 Nb의 비율은 합금의 조성 및 냉각속도에 따라 변화됨을 관찰 할 수 있었다.
