A Study on New Train Control System of the SMRT(Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation) (서울도시철도 신 열차제어시스템에 대한 연구)

  • The Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation(SMRT) is studying the New Train Control System based on Wireless Communication(CBTC System : Communication Based Train Control System) to overcome the limitations of the existing system and to deal with the switch to the new system. The SMRT's New Train Control System Based on three main elements(train position detecting, radio communication and train control) is being developed in 3 stages. Currently, the development of the train position detecting element with the RFID system and the train position detecting device and the radio communication element with RTIS and DSRC had been developed and equipped on 3 stations(Songpa~Garak Market~Munjeong, 7.3km) of Subway Line 8 in the pilot. Such a basic infrastructure of the SMRT's New Train Control System is having an efficiency test by using the real-time Train Monitoring System and Currently, the third element, the train control(ATP/ATO/ATS/Interlocking) for the study is in progress. Also, the developed system is expected to validate the performance and safety in the next three stage. This paper shows about major developments of the SMRT's New Train Control System and our future plans.

Analysis of PRT Station Capacity based on Micro Simulation (미시적 시뮬레이션을 통한 PRT 정류장 용량분석)

  • The introduction of Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) has been widely discussed in the Korean transportation research field. However, there is no robust criterion to derive the throughput of cars and passengers at PRT stations, which plays a primary role in determining the overall capacity of PRT systems. The present study provided a methodology to rigorously compute the capacity for simple-serial PRT stations with a single platform, considering three decisive factors, i.e., the demand level of incoming cars and outgoing passengers, the station structure, and the operation strategy. A micro-level simulator was developed for the analysis of station capacity. And, by using this, station capacities were presented for various combinations of the decisive factors. In particular, the relationship between capacity and station structure was investigated in detail. Station structure is represented by the numbers of platform berths, input queue berths, and output queue berths. Moreover, both waive rate and waiting time, which represent the level of passenger service, were taken into account when the station throughput was computed.

Characteristic Analysis of Functional Films according to the Annealing Temperature (기능성 필름의 열처리 온도에 따른 특성 분석)

  • Because of the low pollution resistance of the porcelain electrical insulator itself, in this work the anti-pollution performance of insulator was improved by using the functional coating. The ceramic substrates that components were same as the porcelain electrical insulator were used in this experiment. The functional films were coated on the ceramic substrate by using a spray coating method, and then the coated substrate were annealed under different coating condition such as natural curing and annealing temperature of $200^{\circ}C$, $300^{\circ}C$ and $400^{\circ}C$. Then, the contact angles of the coated surfaces were measured and the minimum angle ($8.3^{\circ}$) was obtained at $400^{\circ}C$. The anti-contamination properties were measured, revealing that as the contact angle decreased, the anti-contamination properties improved. The hardness and adhesion were small at the natural curing condition however the excellent mechanical properties were obtained under higher temperature annealing.

Study on the Improvement of Empirical Formula for Prediction of Ground Vibration Induced by Urban Rapid Transit (도시철도 지반진동 예측식 개선에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, field measurements in the subway tunnel and adjacent building were performed to predict the pound vibration level induced by urban rapid transit (subway) in Seoul, Korea. From the results of the measurements, the measured ground vibration level induced by subway in Seoul is smaller than the empirical formula of New York, but it is bigger than the empirical formula of Tokyo which has been commonly used in Korea. We suggested the empirical formula for prediction of ground vibration level induced by subway in Seoul considering on the wave propagation path for soils or rocks, respectively.

The Effect of Non-Smoking Campaign for Subway Workers on Their Health Behavior (일부 지하철 지하작업장 근로자에게 실시한 금연운동이 건강행태에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was done to investigate the effect of non-smoking campaign for subway workers on their health behavior such as smoking, drinking, and exercise. Method: The study was done on the subjects of 112 male employees for 3 years from 2003 to 2005 working at the Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation. However, the subjects decreased to 105 in 2004 and 111 in 2005 due to work transfer. The data were obtained through administering questionnaires. The non-smoking campaign was done with health education using various strategies and methods by an administrator-in-charge assisted by the community health center. Results: Smoking rate and cigarette consumption decreased but there was no statistical significance. Smokers' frequency of drinking and exercise were higher than that of non-smokers, but there was no statistical significance. Conclusion: The result indicated the program was not effective to change the subjects' health behavior; therefore, tailored program considering the subjects is recommended.

  • 본 논문에서는 승객 수송수요 반영 단계에서는 역별 승하차인원, 시간대별 재차인원 등 수송수요에 반영할 기준을 설정하여 수송력과 승차인원의 기준을 판단하고, 열차운행계획 수립 단계에서는 운행구간, 선로용량, 선로조건 등 제약조건과 적정수송력에 맞는 운행계획을 수립하고, 마지막 단계에서 경제성, 능률성, 합리성 등을 감안한 운용효율 향상을 위한 열차 DIA를 작성하고자 한다. 또한 통계적 분석절차에 따라 재차인원과 운행횟수를 각각의 독립변수와 종속변수로 산정하여 두 변수간의 상관관계를 확인한 후 회귀분석을 통해 얻은 회귀식을 실제열차운행 횟수와 비교하여 최적의 열차운행횟수를 산정하였으며 회귀식의 유효성 검증을 통해 열차운행 환경변화에 신속하게 대응할 수 있는 유연한 시스템을 구축한 후 서울도시철도공사 실용 Dia에 적용하여 유효성을 검토하였다.

A Study on DRT System Introduction for Aging Society : A Case Study on Kimhae City (고령화사회의 DRT(Demand Responsive Transit)시스템 도입방안에 관한 연구 - 김해시를 중심으로 -)

  • Rapid increase of aging population and progressed migration from rural areas to urban areas have caused deficit of bus routes in local cities. This increasing burden of operation deficit affects the movement strategy of the transportation vulnerable who are using buses. Along with dramatically increased aging in Korea, there is an urgent need to implement a new method which can guarantee mobility rights of public transportation especially for the elderly. This study focuses on the case of Demand Responsive Transit(DRT) system that has been operating in America, Europe, Japan, etc. Kimhae(Sangdong-myeon and Saengnim-myeon) is selected as a study area. This study investigated the possibility of adopting DRT system on the perspectives of the consumer and provider by the analysis of traffic condition such as the number of transportation vehicles, present bus service and regulation and conduct of questionnaire survey which includes present bus service and DRT system and so on. In conclusion, DRT system in Kimhae city will reduce transport cost, increase affordability through the betterment of service level and secure mobility rights for the transportation vulnerable.

DEA-AR/AHP Model Design for Efficiency Evaluation of Metropolitan Rapid Transit (지하철 효율성 평가를 위한 DEA-AR/AHP 모형 설계)

  • Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is a methodology of computing the relative efficiency of each decision making unit (DMU) by comparing it with other DMUs having similar input and output structure. In this paper, we compare the efficiency of Korean rail transit corporations using DEA. To do this, we design a DEA-AR/AHP model, and evaluate efficiency by comparing the subway operating agencies of six big cities. The analysis reveals that Seoul Metro and Seoul city railroad construction turn out to be the most efficient groups. The result of this research can provide helpful information for effective management in a domestic subway operating agency.

Standardization Specification Research for Linear Induction Motor Type Light Rail Vehicle (선형유도모터형 경량전철 표준사양 연구)

  • Light rail vehicle is optimized vehicle system for complex urban circumstance. LRT systems have many merits such as improve accuracy, speediness and safety. There are many LRT systems such as monorail, tram, automated guideway transit, linear induction motor propulsion and so on. These systems have operated in Japan and other advanced countries. In Korea, local government has many projects to apply the advanced LRT system. But there are no standardized specification, performance test specification, construction specification for monorail system, linear induction motor propulsion system, tram in Korea up to now. So, we need to establish of standardized to economical construction and safety. The linear induction motor system has been usually applied in Japan subway and ART(Advanced Rapid Transit) of Canada. In Korea, the linear induction motor system has been adopted for Yongin LRT and currently under construction. This paper covers the contents and technical base for main items of rolling stock, performance standard, carbody structure, bogie, electronic unit and brake equipment in order to implement linear induction motor LRT system according to local conditions.

On the Optimal Vehicle Routing of City-Wide PRT based on Synchronization (동기화 기반 City-Wide PRT의 최적경로설정 방안 연구)

  • Recently, there are environmental issues for sustainable transportation system to pursue the energy-efficient and environment-friendly public urban transit. These transportation system needs to offer demand-oriented high-quality service being on the same level with cab service for urban space. PRT(Personal Rapid Transit), small track-guided vehicle, is repeatedly mentioned as a possible alternative for the new urban public transportion system, but but there are not many researches on the operational optimal routing for PRT network. In this paper, the concept of PRT and general optimal routing methods are reviewed. And we suggest the optimal routing method for city-wide PRT network with multi-vehicles and stations, junctions and directional arcs. Futher research directions for PRT routing are presented.
