  • This paper presents an efficient method of extracting line segments from the occupancy grids in a grid map. The grid map is composed of 2-D grids that have both the occupancy and orientation probabilities using sonar sensors. We evaluate the orientation information of every grid when the occupancy probability of the grid is updated from sonar range data. To find the shape of an object in the map from orientation information, the orientations are clustered into several groups according to their values. The line segments are, then, extracted from the clusters based on Hough transform. Finally, a feature-based map is built with these line segments. The proposed method is illustrated with the results produced by sets of experiments in an indoor environment.

  • In this paper, we propose the face recognition system using the neural network. A difficult procedure in constructing the entire recognition systems is the feature extraction from the face imga. And a key poing is the design of the matching function that relates the set of feature values to the appropriate face candidates. We use the length and angle values as feature values that are extracted from the face image normalized to the range of [0,1]. These features values are applied to the input layer of the neural network. Then, these multi-layered perceptron learns or gives otput result. By using the neural network we need not to design the matching function. This function may have nonlinear attributes considerably and would be ...

  • In this paper a hierarchical stereo matching algorithm based on feature extraction is proposed. The boundary (edge) as feature point in an image is first obtained by segmenting an image into red, green, blue and white regions. With the obtained boundary information, disparities are extracted by matching window on the image boundary, and the initial disparity map is generated when assigned the same disparity to neighbor pixels. The final disparity map is created with the initial disparity. The regions with the same initial disparity are classified into the regions with the same color and we search the disparity again in each region with the same color by changing block size and search range. The experiment results are evaluated on the Middlebury data set and it show that the proposed algorithm performed better than a phase based algorithm in the sense that only about 14% of the disparities for the entire image are inaccurate in the final disparity map. Furthermore, it was verified that the boundary of each region with the same disparity was clearly distinguished.

  • Depth information is one of the most important factor for the recognition of a digital face image. Range images are very useful, when comparing one face with other faces, because of implicating depth information. As the processing for the whole fare produces a lot of calculations and data, face images ran be represented in terms of a vector of feature descriptors for a local area. In this paper, depth areas of a 3 dimensional(3D) face image were extracted by the contour line from some depth value. These were resampled and stored in consecutive location in feature vector using multiple feature method. A comparison between two faces was made based on their distance in the feature space, using Euclidian distance. This paper reduced the number of index data in the database and used fewer feature vectors than other methods. Proposed algorithm can be highly recognized for using local depth information and less feature vectors or the face.

  • The range profile is easily obtainable and promising feature vector in the aspect of real-time radar target recognition system. However, the range profile is highly dependent on a aspect angle of a target and this dependence make it difficult the recognition over wide-angular region. In this paper, we propose the classifier with subclass concept in order to solve this dependence problem. Recognition results using six aircraft models measured at compact range facility are presented to show the effectiveness of this proposed classifier over wide-angular region.

  • In the paper the authors deal with inverter fed induction motors design criteria for having a wide constant power range. In particular, the flux weakening operation is the main feature considered. The design target concerns the possibility of having a wide flux weakening region avoiding or limiting, at the same time, to oversize the motor and the inverter.

  • As feature sizes of circuits and devices approach 100 m and chip frequencies climb into the upper gigahertz to terahertz range, it becomes increasingly important to have a convenient method of characterizing properties of thin dielectric films in the GHz to THz frequency range [1]. To measure the dielectric and optical properties of materials at THz frequency, a TH2 time-domain spectroscopy has been utilized during past decade. (중략)

  • An experimental study has been carried on high-preheated temperature air combustion. Because the flames with high-preheated temperature air combustion were much more stable and homogeneous(both temporally and spatially) as compared to the room-temperature combustion air. The global flame feature showed range of flame colors (yellow, blue, blurish-green) over the range of conditions. Low level of NOx along with low level of CO have been obtained under high-preheated air combustion conditions. The thermal and chemical behavior of high-preheated air combustion flames depends on preheated temperature and oxygen concentration air.

  • A new mixed approximation method is proposed for the model reduction of high order linear and time-invariant dynamic systems. This method makes allowance for stability and feature retention simultaneously. After defining dominant frequency range which affects relative stability of systems, a part of denominator is obtained using the energy dispersion method and tests are obtained using dominant frequency response matching method. The proposed method reflects the characteristic of the original system more faithfully and guarantees absolute stability of the reduction model.

  • This research presents an implementation strategy of Process Capability Index (PCI) according to the types of process characteristics. The types of process feature are classified as four perspectives of variation range, time period, error position, and process stage. The paper examines short-term or long-term PCI, within or between variation, position of precision or accuracy, and inclusion of measurement or calibration stage. Moreover, the study proposes normality test of unilateral PCI.
