  • This study is about heat island as one of the urban climate variation factors in urbanized modern society, which compared and observed the thermal characteristics both the downtown location and the outskirt site in summer. The diurnal air temperature range at each point is $12.6^{\circ}C$ in the downtown location and $14.3^{\circ}C$ in the outskirt site, so, it was found that the diurnal air temperature range in the outskirt site was $1.7^{\circ}C$ higher than in the downtown location. There was 20 minutes difference to reach the highest temperature between globe temperature and air temperature in the downtown location, however, the time spent to reach the highest temperature between globe temperature and air temperature in the outskirt site was the same. When we compared the globe temperature between the downtown location and outskirt site, we found that the temperature in the outskirt site was lower than in the downtown location after sunset due to the sudden temperature drops, although the exposed time to insolation in the outskirt site is longer. The average of globe temperature difference on the sample days was $1.1^{\circ}C$, the average of surface temperature difference on the sample days was $1.0^{\circ}C$, and the average of air temperature difference on the sample days was $2.0^{\circ}C$ Thus, it was found that the average of air temperature difference was higher than the average of globe temperature and the average of surface temperature. The result of this study is that the urban environment factors have more effect on the air temperature difference than globe temperature and surface temperature.

  • Flow control range of valve, which is installed on pipeline, varies according to valve type, pipe diameter, pipe length, roughness, and elevation difference of both ends of pipeline. A lot of computation efforts and knowledge are needed to estimate flow control range of valve, considering above many parameters. The table of flow control range of each valve type is presented for convenience of pipeline design engineers who must make decision of valve size and type in this study. Also the reason that butterfly valve is recommended for flow control, and gate valve is forbidden is presented via quantification and figures in this study.

  • This paper designs an integrated navigation system that uses the signals from both GPS satellites and pseudolites. While GPS satellite clocks are synchronized, pseudolite clocks are not exactly synchronized even though pseudolite can use 1PPS signal from the GPS receiver. This can cause large range error and can be solved by transmitting the correction information. Assuming that the positions of pseudolites are known, it is possible to determine the true range between two pseudolites. Also, from the measurement of pseudolite signals, the pseudo range between two pseudolites can be calculated. Using the difference between the true range and the pseudo range, each pesudolite can produce correc...

  • Wireless power transmission (WPT) is useful technology in near future. There are some kinds of the WPT technologies, WPT via radio waves, resonance coupling, and inductive. Especially the WPT via radio waves is used for multi-purposes from short range to long range application. However, unfortunately it is misunderstood that it is low efficiency and low power. In this paper, I show the theory of beam efficiency between transmitting antennas and receiving antennas and also show some high efficient applications of the WPT via radio waves. Especially, I pick up a wireless power charging system of an electric vehicle and show the experimental results. I show difference between the theory of beam efficiency and the experimental results of short range WPT. I indicate that reasons of poor beam efficiency in the experiment are (1) change of impedance caused by mutual coupling between transmitting antennas and receiving antennas, (2) oblique direction of microwave power to receiving antennas caused by short distance.

  • A new silicon micro flow sensor with multiple temperature sensing elements was proposed and fabricated in considering wide range flow velocity measuring device. Thermal mass flow sensor measures the asymmetry of temperature profile around the heater which is modulated by the fluid flow. A micro mass flow sensor was normally composed of a central heater and a pair of temperature sensing elements around it. A new 2-D wide range micro flow sensor structure with three pairs of temperature sensing elements and a central heater was proposed and numerically simulated by Finite Difference Formulation to confirm the feasibility of the wide flow range sensor structure. To confirm the simulation result, the new flow sensor was fabricated on silicon substrate and the basic flow sensing properties of the sensor were measured.

  • We studied experimentally and theoretically the vertical range of the confined electric field in the gap area of metamaterials, which was analyzed for various gap widths using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. We measured the resonant frequency as a function of the thickness of poly(methyl methacrylate) in the range 0 to 3.2 μm to quantify the effective detection volumes. We found that the effective vertical range of the metamaterial is determined by the size of the gap width. The vertical range was found to decrease as the gap width of the metamaterial decreases, whereas the sensitivity is enhanced as the gap width decreases due to the highly concentrated electric field. Our experimental findings are in good agreement with the finite-difference time-domain simulation results. Finally, a numerical expression was obtained for the vertical range as a function of the gap width. This expression is expected to be very useful for optimizing the sensing efficiency.

  • This research compared the features of respiration and phonation between practical musicology students and general male students, according to their smoking status. Participants of this research are 15 practical musicology male students attending ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ university and 16 general ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ university students. The participants, both non-smokers and smokers with 5-years of smoking history have no history of voice disease in any case and have normal cognitive functions. The results indicated that, first, there is not a notable difference in the respiratory activity status(FVC, FEV1, FEV1/FVC), regardless of major and smoking status. In MPT, even though there is no significant difference in accordance with their majors, considering smoking status, the smoker group was shorter than non-smoker group significant difference statistically (p<.01). Second, the divisions of participants' major did not show significant difference in Fo, jitter, shimmer, and NHR in the vowel prolongation task. However, the smoker group showed a significantly higher degree of jitter and shimmer than the non-smoker group (p<.05) as Fo and NHR shows no difference. In the case of VRP, maximum frequency and frequency range of the practical group are significantly higher than normal group statistically (p<.001). Moreover, although the difference of the minimum frequency shown at the statistic is not significant, practical group showed a higher tendency of frequency than normal group (p=.051). In conclusion, even though there is no difference in respiratory activity between the smoker group and non-smoker group, the MPT of the smoker group is shorter than that of non-smoker group. In addition, the smoker group showed a higher degree of jitter and shimmer than the non-smoker group. MPT is related to the valve action of vocal fold that passes through the glottis. Thus, it is interpreted that the smoker group has a lower quality of voice and valve action of the vocal fold. Also, the practical group has a higher degree of maximum frequency and frequency range than the normal group. This research can function as basic data for vocal characteristics for the majors in relation to the voice-specializing.

  • Purpose: The spasticity of stroke patients decreases the ankle range of motion and increases the gastrocnemius muscle tone. This study examined the effects of stretching exercise and far infrared irradiation on the ankle function in stroke patients with spasticity. Methods: This study was conducted on 20 stroke patients admitted to Jesaeng General Hospital, who were divided into a study group (stretching exercise with far infrared) and control group (stretching exercise only). The dorsiflexion range of motion was measured using a smartphone and the medial gastrocnemius muscle tone and stiffness were measured using a Myoton pro. Results: With the exception of the non-paretic gastrocnemius muscle tone in the control group, the medial gastrocnemius muscle tone and stiffness decreased significantly in both groups. In both groups, the dorsiflexion range of motion increased significantly. In addition, the experimental group had a significantly higher dorsiflexion range of motion than the control group. On the other hand, there was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of the medial gastrocnemius muscle tone and stiffness. Conclusion: For stroke patients with spasticity, stretching exercises increased the ankle's range of motion and decreased the gastrocnemius muscle tone. The addition of heat therapy further increased the ankle's range of motion. On the other hand, as the sample size was small, future studies should include more subjects.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to find out objective and scientific grounds on the effect of Spiral Balanced Taping(SBT) by examining physiological change according to pain reduction and understanding the relationship physiological change and pain. Method : 32 female students who was from 20 to 25 years old($22.06{\pm}1.13$). Regarding the range of pain, each 16 female students ranged in the right and the left. The subjects selected the most comfortable method of six taping methods related with trapezius. They were examined with four measurement methods(Visual Analogue Scale : VAS, Algometer, Digital Infrared Thermograph Imaging(DITI), and Cervical Range of motion : CROM) and measured before treatment, right after treatment, 30 minutes later after treatment and 60 minutes later after treatment. Result : According to the result of Repeated measure ANOVA, there was a significant difference with all four methods before and after treatment. In addition there was a significant difference in proportion to time. As a result of stepwise regression, VAS was the highest with Digital Infrared Thermograph Imaging(r2=0.136) and pressure pain threshold was the highest in the range of cervical motion. Conclusion : There was the effect of SBT to all four measurement method and it was effective with measuring VAS and DITI, or Algometer and CROM together.
