Unlike existing pulse-width modulation (PWM) techniques, such as sinusoidal PWM and random PWM, the wavelet PWM (WPWM) technique based on a Harr wavelet function can achieve a high fundamental component for the output voltage, low total harmonic distortion, and simple digital implementation. However, the original WPWM method lacks output voltage control. Thus, the practical application of the WPWM technique is limited. This study proposes an improved WPWM technique that can regulate output voltage amplitude with the addition of a parameter. The relationship between the additional parameter and the output voltage amplitude is analyzed in detail. Experimental results verify that the improved WPWM exhibits output voltage control in addition to all the merits of the WPWM technique.
Wireless communication systems, in particular, must operate in a crowded electro-magnetic environmnet where in-band undesired signals are treated as noise by the receiver. These interfering signals are often random but not Gaussian Due to nongaussian noise, the distribution of the observables cannot be specified by a finite set of parameters; instead r-dimensioal sample space (pure noise samples) is equiprobably partitioned into a finite number of disjointed regions using quantiles and a vector quantizer based on training samples. If we assume that the detected symbols are correct, then we can observe the pure noise samples during the training and transmitting mode. The algorithm proposed is based on a piecewise approximation to a regression function based on quantities and conditional partition moments which are estimated by a RMSA (Robbins-Monro Stochastic Approximation) algorithm. In this paper, we develop a diversity combiner with modified detector, called Non-Linear Detector, and the receiver has a differential phase detector in each diversity branch and at the combiner each detector output is proportional to the second power of the envelope of branches. Monte-Carlo simulations were used as means of generating the system performance.
In this paper, we consider the acquisition performance of an IS-95 reverse link access channel slot as a function of system design parameters such as postdetection integration length and the number of access channel message block repetitons. The uncertainty region of the reverse link spreading codes compared to that of forward link is very small, since the uncertainty region of the reverse link is determined by a cell radius. Thus, the parallel acquisiton technique in the reverse link is more efficient than a serial acquisition technique in terms of implementation and of acquisition time. The parallel acquisition is achieved by a bank of N parallel I/Q noncoherent correlator are analyzed for band-limited noise and the Rayleigh fast fading channel. The detection probability is derived for multiple correct code-phase offsets and multipath fading. The probability of no message error is derived when rake combining, access channel message block combining, and Viterbi decoding are applied. Numerical results provide the acquisition performance for system design parameters such as postdetection integration length and number of access channel message block repetitions in case of a random access on a mobile station.
The problem of flow through the vent is formulated as an unsteady, nonlinear, ordinary differential equation and solved using Runge-Kutta method to obtain pressure inside payload faring. An inverse problem for prediction of the discharge coefficient is presented employing measured internal pressure of the payload fairing during the ascent phase of a satellite launch vehicle. A controlled random search method is used to estimate the discharge coefficient from the measured transient pressure history during the ascent period of the launch vehicle. The algorithm predicts the discharge coefficient stepwise with function of Mach number. The estimated values of the discharge coefficients are in good agreement with differential pressure measured during the flight of typical satellite launch vehicle.
This paper investigates the load model for single footfall trace of human walking. A large amount of single person walking load tests were conducted using the three-dimensional gait analysis system. Based on the experimental data, Fourier series functions were adopted to model single footfall trace in three directions, i.e. along walking direction, direction perpendicular to the walking path and vertical direction. Function parameters such as trace duration time, number of Fourier series orders, dynamic load factors (DLFs) and phase angles were determined from the experimental records. Stochastic models were then suggested by treating walking rates, duration time and DLFs as independent random variables, whose probability density functions were obtained from experimental data. Simulation procedures using the stochastic models are presented with examples. The simulated single footfall traces are similar to the experimental records.

A simple emission model applicable for low scattering (scattering << absorption) anisotropic layer is developed and applied to the interpretation of measurements of microwave emission from row crops. The vegetation layer of row crops is modeled as a random slab embedded with small spheroid with major axis aligend paralel to the crop-row direction. The total emission is given in a simple algebraic form based on the zero-order radiative transfer theory. The single scattering albedo for spheroid and its polarimetric phase function are presented. The effects of layer azimuthal dependence on emission are accounted for by using an anisotropic albedo in the zero-order transfer theory. The developed emission theory favorably compares with the brightness temperature measured over soybeans canopy.
Vibration is a source of performance degradation in all optical imaging systems. Performance of high resolution remote sensing payloads is often limited due to satellite platform vibrations. Effects of Linear and high frequency sinusoidal vibrations on the system MTF are known exactly in closed form but the low frequency vibration effects is a random process and must be considered statistically. Usually the vibration MTF budget is defined based on the mission requirements and the overall MTF limitations. For analyzing low frequency effects, designer must know all the systems specifications and parameters. With a good understanding of harmful vibration frequencies and amplitudes in the system preliminary design phase, their effects could be removed totally or partially. This procedure is cost effective and let the designer to eliminate just harmful vibrations and avoids over-designing. In this paper we have analyzed the effects of low-frequency platform vibrations on the payload's modulation transfer function. We have used a statistical analysis to find the probability of imaging with a MTF equal or greater than a pre-defined budget for different missions. The worst and average cases have been discussed and finally we have proposed "look-up figures". Using these look-up figures, designer can choose the electro-optical parameters in such a way that vibration effects be less than its pre-defined budget. Furthermore, using the results, we can propose a damping profile based on which vibration frequencies and amplitudes must be eliminated to stabilize the payload system.
Overhead sign support structures number in the tens of thousands throughout the trunk-line roadways in the United States. A recent two-phase study sponsored by the National Cooperative Highway Research Program resulted in the most significant changes to the AASHTO design specifications for sign support structures to date. The driving factor for these substantial changes was fatigue related cracks and some recent failures. This paper presents the method and results of a subsequent study sponsored by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) to develop a relative performance-based procedure to rank overhead sign support structures around the United States based on a linear combination of their expected fatigue life and an approximate measure of cost. This was accomplished by coupling a random vibrations approach with six degree-of-freedom linear dynamic models for fatigue life estimation. Approximate cost was modeled as the product of the steel weight and a constructability factor. An objective function was developed and used to rank selected steel sign support structures from around the country with the goal of maximizing the objective function. Although a purely relative approach, the ranking procedure was found to be efficient and provided the decision support necessary to MDOT.

Purpose: This study is to propose the establishment and direction of a public health-medical cooperation system for rehabilitation medical services for people with physical and brain disabilities in Gangneung, Korea. Research design, data and methodology: The study focused on 30 individuals with these disabilities registered. Data was collected from December 20, 2021, to December 31, 2021, through structured surveys administered by researchers visiting disability-related facilities, utilizing convenience and random sampling methods. Descriptive statistics and cross-analysis were applied for analysis. Results: Specifically, among respondents with physical disabilities, a total of 20 needs were identified, with 'Visiting health services' (25.0%) and 'Oral health services' (20.0%) ranking highest. The survey results regarding visit-based rehabilitation services for disability support showed a high demand, emphasizing the necessity of service provision tailored to the needs of recipients, focusing on disability prevention, health management, and motor function recovery, rather than solely medical or therapeutic concepts. Conclusions: Gangwon National University Hospital, as the regional referral hospital in Gangwon, should collaborate with Gangwon Province Rehabilitation Hospital to provide prompt acute rehabilitation services. Moreover, cooperation and collaboration with Gangneung Asan Hospital, the tertiary hospital in the region, are essential to ensure continued acute and recovery phase rehabilitation therapy for a certain period in the Gangneung area.

The new stick make-up product was studied by using a gel, which is a viscous complex formed with clay minerals, vitamins A and E and fluorinated liquid polymer with a 1500 molecular weight. The gel cannot be obtained with any random combination of clay minerals and the ingredients described above. It takes the sequential manufacturing method as follows to get this kind of gel. Firstly, clay minerals and liquid polymers have to be pre-mixed in order to saturate the liquid polymers with the clay minerals. Then the on-processed gel has to be finely crystallized. The clay minerals, which are the core elements for this gel, were used as a function of Binder & Buffer and liquid polymer was mixed together for the deterioration of the surface tension of each component and to form a functional film in the gel. This liquid polymer was combined with clay minerals because it is not miscible with most oils and solvents. Waxes have a function of keeping a solid status in the stick. We reduced the usage of waxes by putting clay minerals as buffer in the proportion of 0.5:1 with oil phase. Ceramide takes care of the skin when used regularly and maintains the skin's moisture. Vitamins A and E contribute to preventing skin aging by the activation of skin cells. We could get the stable viscous gel, which has about 80% oil phase using clay minerals and liquid polymer. The crystalline structures of gel were surface-chemically-analyzed using SEM and Image Analyzer and were thermodynamically analyzed using DSC. Surface tension test and softness were done by Rheometer. In the end, these characteristics were verified by consumer panel tests in Seoul, Daegeon and Pusan in Korea and Hokkaido, Osaka and Miyazaki in Japan with correlation to the climate.
