Compulsive buyers are individuals who experience and routinely act on powerful, uncontrollable urges to purchase. The relationships that existed between compulsive buying behaviors among college undergraduates are associated with intended majors, self-esteem and fashion orientation for female college students between the ages of 18 and 24 were investigated. A random sample of 182 undergraduate students completed a questionnaire that contained measures of compulsive buying, self-esteem, and fashion orientation. Based on literature review, three hypotheses were proposed. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, t-test, Pearson Correlation, and Cronbach Alpha were used. The results found that the compulsive buying tendency is negatively related to self-esteem among college students among female college students. Also, the tendency toward higher levels of fashion-orientation was positively related to compulsive buying tendencies. Fashion major was more prone to have compulsive buying tendency when compared to business major. Based on these results, some implications for educators, marketers, consumers and would be suggested.
A higher order iterative method to compute the Moore-Penrose inverses of arbitrary matrices using only the Penrose equation (ii) is developed by extending the iterative method described in [1]. Convergence properties as well as the error estimates of the method are studied. The efficacy of the method is demonstrated by working out four numerical examples, two involving a full rank matrix and an ill-conditioned Hilbert matrix, whereas, the other two involving randomly generated full rank and rank deficient matrices. The performance measures are the number of iterations and CPU time in seconds used by the method. It is observed that the number of iterations always decreases as expected and the CPU time first decreases gradually and then increases with the increase of the order of the method for all examples considered.
For the purpose of finding out the sound field characteristics in a cavity of a rectangular enclosure with foamed aluminum lining, analytical and experimental studies are performed with random noise input. Experimental method using two-microphone impedance tube measures the absorption coefficients and the impedances of simple sound absorbing materials. Measured acoustical parameters of the test samples are applied to the theoretical analysis to predict sound pressure field in the cavity. The sound absorp- tion effects from measurements are compared to prediction in both cases with and without foamed aluminum lining in the cavity of the rectangular enclosure.
The purpose of this study was to examine understanding consumers' purchasing intention toward sustainable apparel regarding buying experience, majors, and age. A random sample of 172 undergraduate students completed a questionnaire that contained measures of demographic information, past sustainable buying experiences, and purchasing intentions toward sustainable apparel. Based on literature review, three research questions were proposed. For data analysis, descriptive statistics and t-test were used. Based on these results, this research provided acceptable information based upon the consumer's purchasing intentions toward sustainable apparel, after being placed into groups of buyers and non-buyers. Buyers had more willing to purchase sustainable apparel than non-buyers. Also the results revealed that fashion majors hold a higher level of significance than non-fashion majors and their intentions to purchase sustainable apparel. Finally, older students (over 21 years old) have more purchasing intentions toward sustainable apparel than younger students (under 21 years old). Based on these results, some implications for educators and marketers would be suggested.
We consider a finite-buffer discrete-time queueing system with fixed-size bulk-service discipline: Geo/ $G^{B}$1/K+B. The main purpose of this paper is to present a performance analysis of this system that has a wide range of applications in Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) and other related telecommunication systems. For this purpose, we first derive the departure-epoch probabilities based on the embedded Markov chain method. Next, based on simple rate in and rate out argument, we present stable relationships for the steady-state probabilities of the queue length at different epochs: departure, random, and arrival. Finally, based on these relationships, we present various useful performance measures of interest such as the moments of number of packets in the system at three different epochs and the loss probability. The numerical results are presented for a deterministic service-time distribution - a case that has gained importance in recent years.s.

The k-means algorithm is well known for its efficiency in clustering large data sets. However, working only on numeric values prohibits it from being used to cluster real world data containing categorical values. The k-modes algorithm is to extend the k-means paradigm to categorical domains. The algorithm requires a pre-setting or random selection of initial points (modes) of the clusters. This paper improved the problem of k-modes algorithm, using the Max-Min method that is a kind of methods to decide initial values in k-means algorithm. we introduce new similarity measures to deal with using the categorical data for clustering. We show that the mushroom data sets and soybean data sets tested with the proposed algorithm has shown a good performance for the two aspects(accuracy, run time).
In this paper we obtain several function defined on finite partially ordered sets(posets) which may indicate constraints of comparability on sets of teams(tasks, etc.) for which evaluation is computationally simple, a relatively rare condition in graph-based algorithms. Using these functions a set of numerical coefficients and associated distributions obtained from a computer simulation of certain families of random graphs is determined. From this information estimates may be made as to the actual linearity of complicated posets. Applications of these ideas is to all areas where obtaining rankings from partial information in rational ways is relevant as in, e.g., team_, scaling_, and scheduling theory as well as in theoretical computer science. Theoretical consideration of special and desirable properties of various functions is provided permitting judgment concerning sensitivity of these functions to changes in parameters describing (finite) posets.
In the case of numerical implementation, the exact solution method for the M/M/s system where customers demand multiple server use [2] reveals limitations, if a system has large number of servers or types of customers. This is due to the huge matrices involved in the course of the calculations. This paper offers an approximation scheme for such cases. Capitalizing the characteristics of the service rate curve of the system, this method approximates the service rate as a piecewise linear function. With the service rates obtained from the linear function for each number of customers n (n=0. 1. 2,$\cdots$), ${\mu}(n)$, steady-state probabilities and measures of performance are found treating this system as an ordinary M/M/s system. This scheme performs well when the traffic intensity of a system is below about 0.8. Some numerical examples are presented.
The shared-route decision algorithms in multicasting communications networks to provide the internet-based services such as IPTV, remote education/health, and internet broadcasting are presented. The three main measures of maximum delay, average delay and estimated delay between each node and member are adopted. Under the Mesh network with the uniform random cost between each node, the algorithm's performance is compared to the optimal solution with the minimum cost by all enumeration. The simulation results show that the algorithm using the estimated delay outperforms the other two methods.
Purpose - The study's aim is to assess performance quality delivered through a performance management system. The case study first measures the effectiveness of the present performance management system of Bhushan Steel Ltd. (BSL), and then secondarily analyzes the employee training impact. Research design, data, and methodology - A case study research approach using a survey was followed. The final sample size was 50, with a simple random sampling technique used. Primary data came from the company itself and the secondary from books, the Internet, journals, etc. Results - BSL employee appraisals are used for many developmental aspects such as competence in the present job, improvements, performance development, and training needs. The results indicate that individual performance can improve if employees perceive the system as more transparent (i.e., not so confidential). Conclusions - Overall, the BSL employees think that the company appraisal system is useful; however, to make it better the company has to improve many aspects including appraisals based on supervisor observations. The company could use a self-appraisal and a 360-appraisal approach to improve such assessments.
