  • In this paper, we propose an OFDMA/CDM-based cellular system, which accommodates multiple users in frequency-domain and multiplexes user data with frequency-domain spreading. The proposed system utilizes random codes to discriminate cells and adopts the pre-equalization to enhance the performance. For cellular applications, a number of pre-equalization techniques are compared and an efficient power allocation scheme is suggested with a transmit power constraint. Especially, the validity of OFDMA/CDM based cellular system is investigated, by comparing the performance for varying the number of multiplexed data symbols at different locations. Finally the pre/post-equalization is proposed to reduce the performance degradation caused by time delay.

  • Using decode-and-forward relaying in the cognitive radio networks, the spectrum efficiency can improve furthermore. The optimization algorithm of the spectrum sensing estimation time is presented for the cognitive relay networks in this paper. The longer sensing time will bring two aspects of the consequences. On the one hand, the channel parameters are estimated more accurate so as to reduce the interferences to the authorized users and to improve the throughput of the cognitive users. On the other hand, it shortens the transmission time so as to decease the system throughput. In this time, it exists an optimal sensing time to maximize the throughput. The channel state information of the sub-bands is considered as the exponentially distributed, so a stochastic programming method is proposed to optimize the sensing time for the cognitive relay networks. The computer simulation results using the Matlab software show that the algorithm is effective, which has a certain engineering application value.

  • Nuclear fuels are always exposed to hot temperature and high speed coolant flow during the reactor operation. Thus the fuel rod accompanies small amplitude vibration due to the turbulent flow. The random vibration causes friction between the fuel rod and the grid structure which provides the lateral supports. The friction is critical to the fuel rod fretting wear, and it degrades fuel performance when a severe wear is developed. LuGre friction model is introduced in the paper, and the performance was evaluated comparing to the classical Coulomb model. It is shown that the developed friction force considering the Coulomb friction is not enough to stop or delay the motion while the stick-slip can be simulated using LuGre friction model. Numerical solutions of the two dimensional spacer grid cell model with the modern friction are also reviewed, and it is discussed that the new friction model simulates well the nonlinear mechanism.

  • Active noise control is an approach to noise reduction in which a secondary noise source that destructively interferes with the unwanted noise. In general, active noise control systems rely on multiple sensors to measure the unwanted noise field and the effect of the cancellation. This paper develops an approach that utilizes a single sensor. The noise field is modeled as a stochastic process, and a time-adaptive algorithm is used to adaptively estimate the parameters of the process. Based on these parameter estimates, a canceling signal is generated. Opppenheim model assumed that transfer function characteristics from the canceling source to the error sensor is only propagation delay. But this paper proposes a modified Oppenheim model by considering transfer characteristics of acoustic device and noise path. This transfer characteristics is adaptively cancelled by adaptive model. This is proved by computer simulation with artifically generated random noise and sine wave noise. The details of the proposed architecture, and theoretical simulation and experimental results of the noise cancellation system for three dimension enclosure are presented in the paper.

  • It is essential to satisfy class-specific QoS constraints to provide broadband services for new generation networks. The present study proposes a QoS-driven multicast scheme for wireless networks in which the transmission rate and end-to-end delay are assumed to be bounded during a multiple multicast session. A distributed algorithm was used to identify a cost-efficient sub-graph between the source and destination which can satisfy QoS constraints of a multicast session. The model was then modified as to be applied for wireless networks in which satisfying interference constraints is the main challenge. A discrete power control scheme was also applied for the QoS-aware multicast model to accommodate the effect of transmission power level based on link capacity requirements. We also proposed random power allocation (RPA) and gradient power allocation (GPA) algorithms to efficient resource distribution each of which has different time complexity and optimality levels. Experimental results confirm that the proposed power allocation techniques decrease the number of unavailable links between intermediate nodes in the sub-graph and considerably increase the chance of finding an optimal solution.

  • In this paper, we demonstrate inter-layer prediction tools for scalable video coders. The proposed scalable coder is designed to support not only spatial, quality and temporal scalabilities, but also view scalability. In addition, we propose quad-tree inter-layer prediction tools to improve coding efficiency at enhancement layers. The proposed inter-layer prediction tools generate texture prediction signal with exploiting texture, syntaxes, and residual information from a reference layer. Furthermore, the tools can be used with inter and intra prediction blocks within a large coding unit. The proposed framework guarantees the rate distortion performance for a base layer because it does not have any compulsion such as constraint intra prediction. According to experiments, the framework supports the spatial scalable functionality with about 18.6%, 18.5% and 25.2% overhead bits against to the single layer coding. The proposed inter-layer prediction tool in multi-loop decoding design framework enables to achieve coding gains of 14.0%, 5.1%, and 12.1% in BD-Bitrate at the enhancement layer, compared to a single layer HEVC for all-intra, low-delay, and random access cases, respectively. For the single-loop decoding design, the proposed quad-tree inter-layer prediction can achieve 14.0%, 3.7%, and 9.8% bit saving.

  • The SONOSFET Shows low operation voltage, high cell density, anti good endurance due to modified Fowler-Nordheim tunneling as memory charge injection method. In this paper, therefore, the NOR-type Flash EEPROM composed of SONOSFET, which has fast lead operation speed and Random Access characteristics, is proposed. An 8${\times}$8 bit NOR-type SONOSFET Flash EEPROM had been designed and its electrical characteristics were verified. Read/Write/Erase operations of it were verified with the spice parameters of SONOSFETs which had Oxide-Nitride-Oxide thickness of 65${\AA}$-165${\AA}$-35${\AA}$ and that of scaled down as 33${\AA}$-53${\AA}$-22${\AA}$, respectively. When the memory window of the scaled-down SONOSFET with 8V operation was similar to that of the SONOSFET with 13V operation, the Read operation delay times of the scaled-down SONOSFET were 25.4ns at erase state and 32.6ns at program state, respectively, and those of the SONOSFET were 23.5ns at erase state and 28.2ns at program state, respectively.

  • This paper deals with the dynamic vehicle arbitration algorithm for communication between vehicles and a roadside control init on multilane environment. The suggested algorithm varies its parameter values according to the current vehicle arrival rate to get the maximum performance. To get the optimum parameter values, arbitration methods that use random delay counter and persist mechanism were taken into account and the performance of these methods with respect to the vehicle arrival rate was analyzed by computer simulation. After applying the optimum parameter values to suggested algorithm, it is shown that more enhanced reliability was acquired This algorithm could be applied to various systems which include the communication between a transponder and a control unit.

  • As model waterborne acrylic coatings, mono-dispersed poly(butyl acrylate-methyl methacrylate) copolymer latexes of random copolymer and core/shell type graft copolymer were prepared by seeded multi-staged emulsion polymerization with particle size of $180{\sim}200$ nm using semi-batch type process. Sodium lauryl sulfate and potassium persulfate were used as an emulsifier and an initiator, respectively. The effect of particle texture including core/shell phase ratio, glass transition temperature and crosslinking density, and film forming temperature on the film formation and final properties of film was investigated using SEM, AFM, and UV in this study. The film formation behavior of model latex was traced simultaneously by the weight loss measurement and by the change of tensile properties and UV transmittance during the entire course of film formation. It was found that the increased glass transition temperature and higher crosslinking degree of latex resulted in the delay of the onset of coalescence of particles by interdiffusion during film forming process. This can be explained qualitatively in terms of diffusion rate of polymer chains. However, the change of weight loss during film formation was insensitive to discern each film forming stages-I, II and III.

  • The phase properties of ground acceleration records from Mw 5.5~6.5 earthquakes are analyzed. The interrelationships between phase properties and significant durations, as well as PGA, are clarified through both of theoretical and empirical approaches. The probabilistic characteristics of phase information is also discussed based on previous studies and it is shown that circular normal distribution is the most appropriate probability distribution for the phase angle and phase difference. Whereas those variates can be modeled by Gaussian random variables. From the survey results on the frequency dependency of the phase statistics, a simple model is introduced, which is possible to express the frequency dependency of phase information. It is also shown that the significant duration can be controlled by appropriately chosen standard deviation of phase difference for 4~8Hz frequency band and additional consideration of phase scattering in higher frequency band through a series of Monte Carlo simulations. The source of phase scattering effect is also pointed out and discussed.
