  • Railway noise Is one of the main causes of environmental impact. Whenever a new railway line is planned or a housing project near an existing railway is proposed, an estimate of the relevant noise levels is usually required. For this, it is necessary to quantify those parameters that affect the railway noise. Therefore we investigated the noise level which 107 high speed trains generated passing through the block of test railway track between Chunan and Chungwon. This paper shows the status and characteristics of the high speed rallway noise and an accurate prediction of the high speed railway noise.

  • Recently, as the feasibility study shows that trans-Korea railway and trans-continental railway are advantageous, interest in high-speed railway system is increasing. Because railway vehicle is environment-friendly and safe compared with airplane and ship, its market-sharing increases gradually. KHST(Korean High Speed Train) has been developed by KRRI (Korea Railroad Research Institute) for last 6 years to satisfy the need. An electric railway system is composed of high-tech subsystems, among which main electric equipment such as transformers and converter are critical components determining the performance of rolling stock. We developed a measurement system for on-line test and evaluation of performances of KHST. The measurement system is composed of software part and hardware part. Perfect interface between multi-users is possible. A now method to measure temperature was applied to the measurement system. By using the system, fault diagnosis and performance evaluation of electric equipment in Korean High Speed Train was conducted during test running.

  • A refined three-dimensional finite element interaction model between the high-speed train and railway bride deck has been developed in the present study. Analytical predictions of vertical deflections for a railway bridge are compared with in-situ test results and a good agreement is achieved. Then, input variables employed in the analytical comparisons are selected as random variables for the limit state functions. followed by risk assessment. For this purpose, a linear adaptive weighted response surface method has been developed and applied. A typical railway bridge has been selected and the limit state functions are employed from UIC and Korean specifications in the comparative studies. The results reveal that Korean specifications give significantly risky reliability indices in comparison with UIC specifications. It is thus encouraged from the above that the present linear adaptive weighted response surface method can be an alternative for the fast estimation of nonlinear structural systems.
