The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of increasing instream flow at Gapcheon stream of Daejeon city by considering two virtual reservoirs upstream, respectively; Geum-gok reservoir and Koe-gok reservoir upstream, respectively. The paralleled and cascaded reservoir operations were performed including the existing Jang-an and Bang-dong reservoirs. The results are summarized as follows. Firstly, from the Bang-dong and Geum-gok cascaded reservoir's water balance analysis, instream flow of $6.83Mm^3$ was able to be supplied to downstream, and water supply indexes of Geum-gok reservoir were analyzed to have the rate of water supply divided by watershed area of 403.4 mm, the rate of water supply divided by rainfall of 33.0 %, the rate of water supply divided by inflow of 96.4 %, the rate of water supply divided by storage capacity of 81.9 %, and the rate of inflow divided by storage capacity of 112.3 %. Secondly, from the Jang-an and Geum-gok paralleled reservoir's water balance analysis, flow durations at Gapcheon station were analyzed to have Q95 (the 95th high flow) of $4.806m^3/s$, Q185 (the 185th high flow) of $2.217m^3/s$, Q275 (the 275th high flow) of $1.140m^3/s$, and Q355 (the 355th high flow) of $0.887m^3/s$. Thirdly, inflow to Koe-gok reservoir was simulated including the Jang-an and Bang-dong paralleled reservoir's water balance analysis, instream flow of $49.60Mm^3$ was able to be supplied from Koe-gok reservoir to downstream, and water supply indexes of Koe-gok reservoir were analyzed to have the rate of water supply divided by watershed area of 246.5 mm, the rate of water supply divided by rainfall of 19.4 %, the rate of water supply divided by inflow of 40.8 %, the rate of water supply divided by storage capacity of 412.1 %, and the rate of inflow divided by storage capacity of 1,189.8 %. Fourthly, daily streamflows at Gapcheon stream were simulated including outflows from Koe-gok reservoir, flow durations at Gapcheon station were analyzed to have Q95 (the 95th high flow) of $4.501m^3/s$, Q185 (the 185th high flow) of $2.277m^3/s$, Q275 (the 275th high flow) of $1.743m^3/s$, and Q355 (the 355th high flow) of $1.564m^3/s$. The conclusion appeared that the effect of increasing instream flow at Gapcheon stream from Koe-gok reservoir was more higher than that from Geum-gok reservoir.
Annual production and decomposition of litter were studied in piuns rigida platation in Mt. Kwan-ak. The peak time of litter production was October-November. The litterfalll at that time was 54% of annual litter production. But the peak time of litterfall of reproductive parts was Junejuly. The peak times of litter production in Alnus hirsuta plantation were June-July, and November. It is thought that difference of seasonal distribution of letterfall between two forest types were assigned to litter falling factors such as temperature and insects. Total amount of letter loss increased according to time. Particulary, the peak time of loss rate was July-August. It was shown that the protein and phosphorus were accumulated in the letter for an experimental period. The amount of crude protein increased to 150% of initial amount. The amount of potassium was increased by August and then decreased rapidly. The contents of crude fat, holocellulose, lignin, and Na were decreased slowly. The loss of holocellulose was the largiest among them. Calcium was in steady state. It was thought that this variation pattern was assigned to leaching of soluble parts by high temperature, rainfall and growth rate of microorganisms.
Medically important arthropods, including fleas, play an important role in causing clinical disorders and disease in man and domestic animals. This study was conducted to determine the seasonal flea infestations for domestic dogs from different geographic regions of Iran. A total of 407 fleas, belonging to 5 different species, were recovered from 83 domestic dogs from 3 regions. There was a distinctive pattern of species distribution and infestations with the highest infestation rates observed in a temperate climate and higher rainfall. Additionally, fleas were observed over all seasons, except February and March, with the highest infestation rate observed in August (24.7%) and the lowest rate in January (1.7%). They also parasitize dogs with a different spectrum of species. The cat flea, Ctenocephalides felis (67.5%), exhibited the highest prevalence among all flea species found on dogs. Thus, climatic conditions and seasonal patterns impact on flea infestation and must be considered in developing control programs.
This study was conducted to investigate the possible installation of small hydro-power plant at the discharge point of Gumi sewage treatment plant (STP) using treated wastewater. Sufficient amount of water to transfer to electric power and the selection of proper location are two essential elements for the construction of small hydro-power facility. Preliminary analysis based on site visit and existing data in Gumi STP were made. Capacity of the small hydro-power plants and exact location were determined by geomorphological condition and flow duration characteristics. Flow duration characteristics and its duration curve were identified using monthly rainfall data in Gumi STP. Relevant facts of small hydro-power system in other STP were referred to adopt to Gumi STP situation. Flowrate of treated effluents and effective head between flow chamber and the location of hydraulic turbine in Gumi STP are found to be $3.70m^3$/sec and 3.5m respectively. Electric generation rate based on this feasibility study was estimated to be 86.3kW/h. Yearly electric generation rate was expected to be 932.4MMh. Proposed small hydro-power plant construction in Gumi STP is to be reasonable.

A macro spreadsheet model, WEANES (Wet Pond Annual Efficiency Simulation Model), has been developed to predict the long-term or annual removal efficiencies of wet retention/detention basins. The model uses historical, site-specific, multi-year, rainfall data, usually available from a nearby National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) climatological station to estimate basin efficiencies which are calculated based on annual mass loads. Other required input parameters are: 1) watershed parameters; drainage area, pervious curve number, directly connected impervious area, and ti me of concentration, 2) pond parameters; control and overflow elevations, pond side slopes, surface areas at control elevation and pond bottom; 3) outlet structure parameters; 4) pollutant event mean concentrations; and 5) pond loss rate which is defined as the net loss due to evaporation, infiltration and water reuse. The model offers default options for parameters such as pollutant event mean concentrations and pond loss rate. The model can serve as a design, planning, and permitting tool for consulting engineers, planners and government regulators.

Hydrologic Simulation Program-Fortran (HSPF) coupled with PEST which is optimization program was calibrated and validated at Bochung watershed by using monitoring data of water quantities and nutrient loading. Although the calibrated data were limited, model parameters of each land use type were optimized and coefficient of determinations were ranged from 0.94 to 0.99 for runoff, from 0.89 to 1.00 for TN loading, and from 0.92 to 1.00 for TP loading. The optimized hydrological parameters indicated that the forested land could retain rainfall within soil layer with high soil layer depth and infiltration rate compared with other land use type. Hydrological characteristics of paddy rice field are low infiltration rate and coefficient of roughness. The calibrated parameters related to nutrient loading indicated generation of nutrient pollution from agricultural area including upland and paddy rice field higher than other land use type resulting from fertilizer application. Overall PEST program is useful tool to calibrate HSPF automatically without consuming time and efforts.
Recently, rapid industrialization, urbanization and higher living standards accelerate to increase groundwater consumption resulting in continuously dropping groundwater elevations. To maintain enough groundwater volume without dropping groundwater elevations, the proper groundwater rechatge is necessary. The groundwater rechatge can be classified into two categories which are natural rechatge and artiticial rechatge. Even though the natural rechatge through by dired infiltration from the rainfall is desirable, the artificial groundwater rechatge is necessaty when the increment of groundwater consumption exceeds natural recharge rate. Well method and scattering method are utilized as artificial rechatging method, a severe disadvantage, which is the reduction of the void of soil surface, is indicated in the well method. Recently, the underground piping method, which is a scattering method, is receiving increasing attention as a proper recharging method. The method is indirectly to supply water to the underground using an underground piping system. Therefore, the void of soil surface is not severely reduced and better infiltration rate can be achieved. In this paper, the artificial groundwater rechatge using underground piping method is investigated through experiments and numerical analysis. The influence of the groundwater by underground piping method is evaluated through comparing recharging heights. Good agreements between experiments and numerical analysis are obtained and the artificial groundwater recharge by underground piping method is well tested and verified.
The discharge within the basin in Jeju Island was calculated by using SWAT model, which a Semi-distributed rainfall-runoff model to the important rivers. The basin of Chunmi river of the eastern region of Jeju Island, as the result of correcting as utilizing direct runoff data of 2 surveys, appeared the similar value to the existing basin average runoff rate as 22% of average direct runoff rate for the applied period. The basin of Oaedo river of the northern region showed $R^2$ of 0.93, RMSE of 14.92 and ME of 0.70 as the result of correcting as utilizing runoff data in the occurrence of 7 rainfalls. The basin of Ongpo river of the western region showed $R^2$ of 0.86, RMSE of 0.62 and ME of 0.56 as the result of correcting as utilizing runoff data except for the period of flood in $2002{\sim}2003$. Yeonoae river of the southern region showed $R^2$ of 0.85, RMSE of 0.99 and ME of 0.83 as the result of correcting as utilizing runoff data of 2003. As the result of calculating runoff for the long term about 4 basins of Jeju Island from the above results, SWAT model wholly appears the excellent results about the long-term daily runoff simulation.
Potassium deficiency symptoms were studied with flue-cured tobacco which was applied with different levels of compound fertilizer (10-15-20) ; 75kg, 100hg, and 125kg/10a. Ratio of N/$K_2O$ in leaves was increased from bottom to top stalk position due to the increase of nitrogen content in leaves. Nitrogen content in leaves was increased from stalk to tip as wall as from midrib to laminae, but vice versa in potassium content. Consequently, resulting in potassium deficiency symptoms in tip of leaves. Rate of reabsorption by rainfall during the latter part of growth was highest at top stalk position in case of nitrogen, but lowest in potassium. This observation was more evident with higher application rate of fertilizer. Nitrogen content of about 4 % in leaves of top stalk position applied with 125kg/10a was maintained up to 85days after trans planting. No increase in potassium in upper leaves was observed over the level of 100kg/10a fertilizer application. As the result, N/$K_2O$ ratio in leaves of top stalk position applied with 125kg/10a was kept at more than 1.0 up to 85days after transplanting, but it was less than 0.9 at 65days after tracts planting with less than 100kg/10a fertilizer application.
Evaporation from surface water bodies is influenced by a number of meteorological parameters. The rate of evaporation is primarily controlled by incoming solar radiation, air and water temperature and wind speed and relative humidity. In the present study, influence of weekly meteorological variables such as air temperature, relative humidity, bright sunshine hours, wind speed, wind velocity, rainfall on rate of evaporation has been examined using 35 years(1971-2005) of meteorological data. Statistical analysis was carried out employing linear regression models. The developed regression models were tested for goodness of fit, multicollinearity along with normality test and constant variance test. These regression models were subsequently validated using the observed and predicted parameter estimates with the meteorological data of the year 2005. Further these models were checked with time order sequence of residual plots to identify the trend of the scatter plot and then new standardized regression models were developed using standardized equations. The highest significant positive correlation was observed between pan evaporation and maximum air temperature. Mean air temperature and wind velocity have highly significant influence on pan evaporation whereas minimum air temperature, relative humidity and wind direction have no such significant influence.
