The SWAT model developed by the USDA-Agricultural Research service for the prediction of rainfall run-off, sediment, and chemical yields in a basin was applied to Jeju Island watershed to estimate the amount of runoff. The research outcomes revealed that the estimated amount of runoff for the long term on 2 water-sheds showed fairly good performance by the long-term daily runoff simulation. The watershed of Chunmi river located the eastern region in Jeju Island, after calibrations of direct runoff data of 2 surveys, showed the similar values to the existing watershed average runoff rate as 22% of average direct runoff rate for the applied period. The watershed of Oaedo river located the northern region showed $R^2$ of 0.93, RMSE of 14.92 and ME of 0.70 as the result of calibrations by runoff data in the occurrence of 7 rainfalls.
Ecological society and energy conservative systems has become a subject of world wide attention. To examine the technologies of such systems as resource recycling society, this study is proposed for using rainwater as energy source and water resources in urban area. Useful informations for planning of utilizing rainfall as energy source, water resources, emergency water and controlling flood are discussed with model systems in urban area. It is calculated that the rate of utilizing rainwater, amounts of utilizing rainwater, substitution rate of supply water, amounts of overflow rainwater according to rain storage tank volume. By applying the past weather data, The optimum volume of rain water storage was calculated as 200m$^3$ which mean no benefits according to the increase of storage tank volumes. For optimum planing and control method at the model system, several running method of rainwater storage tank was calculated. The optimum operating method was the using weather data as 3hours weather forecast.
In this study, estimation methods for actual evapotranspiration have been studied using the concept of potential and actual evapotranspiration. Among the diverse estimation methods, SWAT-K application is chosen for hydrological modeling. For Jeju island we have characterized annual and monthly evapotranspiration using SWAT-K. In the results, simulated potential evapotranspiration reached to the 91% of small pan evaporation. With respect to the temperature lapse rate($-6^{\circ}C/km$) depending on the altitude of Halla mountain, evapotranspiration rate decreased by 7.5% compared to the status when the temperature data from the Jeju weather station were applied to the watershed. As the average of annual rainfall increased, potential evapotranspiration was increased, actual evapotranspiration was, however, decreased.

The continuous monitoring of the runoff in the small-scaled urban watershed and easily accessible experiment catchment is necessary to investigate the overall status of the development in the urban catchment and the varying aspects of the discharge characteristics due to the urbanization. However, the research on the management and the characteristics of the small-scaled model basin for discharge tests has not been actively performed up to now. This study selects the Dong-Eui university basin, which locates at Gaya-dong in Busan, as the experiment catchment to monitor the discharge rate in the urban watershed. EMS(DEMS, DATA-PCS EMS, mini rain gage & AWS(AWS-DEU, DATA-PCS AWS) monitoring system installed for the collection of hydrological data such as the rainfall and the waterlevel. This experiment catchment is the typical urban catchment and is under development, and it is possible to analyze the varying aspects of the discharge rate during and after the development.

This study is to analyze and evaluate water resource development potential in North Korea. The study was conducted to analyze selected potential hydropower as an indicator to evaluate water resource development potential. Potential hydropower means theoretical value about the potential capacity of river. It is used to evaluate the amount of development through the hydropower generation. For calculating potential hydropower, monthly average and annual average of rainfall for each river basin were calculated by using the data of 27 rainfall stations in North Korea. As a result of the calculation of theoretical potential hydropower by rainfall in the seven major basins in North Korea, the Aprok River basin was analyzed to be the largest with $7,562.2{\times}10^3kW$. The efficiency and utilization rate of theoretical potential hydraulic power in South Korea and North Korea was 42.3% and 36.2%, respectively. The Daedong River basin's potential hydropower utilization rate is 12.3%, which is the lowest in North Korea. In the case of Daedong River basin, more than 40% of the total population is inhabited, so demand for water and electricity is expected to be the largest. Therefore, the Daedong River basin is considered as a priority area for water resource development. The results of this study are expected to be used as basic data for future water resource development projects and research activities in North Korea.

This study analyzed hydrological changes of stormwater runoff of Seolleung Jeongneung zone according to the application of LID system based on landscape Architectural technology. The results are as follows. First, when flooding occurred in Gwanghwamun in July 27, 2011, the maximum instantaneous rainfall amount was 183 mm/hr recorded at 10:00 on 27th for 10 minutes, and it was confirmed that rainfall intensity more than three times as high as the maximum rainfall of 57.5 mm/hr. Second, it is possible to control peak flow rate in the case of 1,500mm of soil thickness, so that it is possible to improve the vulnerability of flood damage in Seolleung and Jeongneung zone when applying the LID system. Third, in the berm height scenario, peak flow rate control was not controled in all depth level models, but the first stormwater runoff was delayed by 4 hours and 10 minutes compared to the soil thickness scenario. It was interpreted as a relatively important indicator the soil thickness for the initial stromwater runoff reduction and the berm height for the peak runoff. Through this, the systematic adaptation of landscape-friendly ecological factors within the cultural property protection zone could theoretically confirm the effects of flood disaster prevention.

In this paper, models for the average-year rain rate distribution and the correlation between the worst-month and the average-year rain rate distribution in domestic environment were proposed, using the rainfall measurement data with 1-minute integration time of Korea Meteorological Administration. Comparison of the proposed model with the existing ITU-R model showed that the average rain rate of the proposed model for the exceed time rate of 0.01 % is about 28 % higher than that of the ITU-R recommendation. In addition, the correlation model between the worst-month and the average-year rain rate distribution was quite different from the ITU-R model. It is recommended that the domestic rain rate distribution model should be used for calculation of the statistical characteristics of rain attenuation(exceeded-time-rate distribution of rain attenuation) which is essential for the design of wireless communication systems in domestic environment.
This study was conducted to evaluate observed runoff data collected every 10 minutes at stream gauging stations in Jeju Island using a physically-based model, SWAT. The Hancheon watershed was selected as study area, and ephemeral stream algorithm suggested by previous research was incorporated into the model, which is able to simulate ephemeral runoff pattern of Jeju streams. Simulated runoff and runoff rates were compared to observations during 2008-2013, which showed 'very good' performance rating in Nash-Sutcliffe model efficiency (ME) and determination coefficient ($R^2$). Some observations had problems such that runoff rates were very high for some rainfall events with little amount of antecedent rainfall, and were very low or missing with much rainfall comparing to previous researches. Additionally, regression equation between precipitation and simulated runoff was generated with high degree of correlation. The equation can be utilized to simply predict reasonable runoff, or to investigate and complement the abnormal or missing data of observations on the assumption that modelling results were sufficiently reliable and satisfactory. As results, minimizing the error in calibrating the model by evaluation of observed data would be helpful to accurately model the rainfall-runoff characteristics and analyze the water balance components of watersheds in Jeju Island.
Stormwater runoff is known as a major non-point water pollution source that transports heavy metals, which have accumulated in road surface, to stream and coastal area. Dissolved and particulate metals in stormwater runoffs have been investigated to understand the outflow characteristics of heavy metals during rainfall events and to identify their pollution sources. The concentration of dissolved Co and Ni decreased after the outflow with high concentrations at the beginning of the rainfall, and other metals showed different characteristics depending on the rainfall and rate of discharge. Particulate metals showed a similar trend with the temporal variation of suspended solids concentration in stormwater runoffs. The results of geo-accumulation index (Igeo) indicated that the stormwater runoffs from industrial region were very highly polluted with Cu, Zn and Cd. As a result of comparing the metal concentrations of <125 ㎛ for road dust near the study area, Cu, Zn and Cd were originated from inside of metal manufacturing facilities rather than traffic activities at road surface and these metals accumulated on the surface area of facilities were transported to the water environments during stormwater event. The average discharged amounts of heavy metals for one rainfall event were Cr 128 g, Co 12.35 g, Ni 98.5 g, Cu 607.5 g, Zn 8,429.5 g, As 6.95 g, Cd 3.7 g, Pb 251.75 g, indicating that metal runoff loads in the stormwater runoffs are closely related to surrounding industry types.

In this study, to estimate the transforming (runoff and leachate) rate of the livestock resources applying to agricultural crop land as fertilizer, field scale test was conducted and the results were obtained as follows. According to results of livestock resources effect to agricultural land, the total amount of harvested crop from testing bed was $0.437kg/m^2$, and nutrient contents were $0.024{\pm}0.006%$ and $0.020{\pm}0.004%$ for N and P, respectively. Dynamics of contaminants in the livestock resources to be supplied to agricultural crop land showed that concentrations were continuously decreased to the level of blank test bed until 60 days of planting. The amount of runoff from farm land showed the tendency to increase according to the increase of rainfall intensity. Run-off ratio of 10mm/h rainfall intensity for agricultural land showed that each contaminant concentration was increased due to rainfall intensity with 8 mm/h, specifically SS showed the highest increase.
