Recently, as South Korea has joined the OSJD, the rules of the OSJD need to be applied to South Korea. Therefore, the railways are connected to the continent railway in terms of software, but the railway systems in neighboring countries have been developed and operated for a long time, and are quite different with some restrictions in terms of hardware. Therefore, this study analyzed the current railway systems of neighboring countries' based on the TSI used in Europe for technical interoperability. A real operation with the operation models within the specific route was assumed and vector functions for the Infrastructure vector & Rolling stock vector were produced. The IOP value was calculated by working out the interfacing matrix value between the infrastructure vector and rolling stock vector. As a result of calculating the IOP in a specific route, which is from Busan South Korea to Vladivostok with the diesel locomotive hauling freight cars, the value was only 22%, which is fairly low in terms of the interoperability. In other words, there are 77.8% restricting items preventing their interoperability. Such restricted causes should be improved to increase the technical interoperability in the long term. Moreover, and when railway systems are constructed and manufactured, it is important to keep IOP 100% to increase the operating efficiency in continental railways.

Recently problems of soil and groundwater contamination occur in major construction sites of highway, dam and railways. Contaminants of oil fuels are also detected in the former fuel storage facilities of railroad station and army troops of transportation, etc. These facilities are planned as the sites of commercial infrastructures after restoration from pollutants by the law of soil environment conservation of Korea. In this manuscript, the contents of soil environment conservation law including soil assessment and restoration technology are introduced. Recent changes of soil environment area are also analyzed.

Variable-gauge systems can be used for the fast and safe transportation in the railways with different gauges instead of transshipment or bogie-changing. The system will be necessary to connect the trans-Korean railway with the transcontinental railway effectively. In this paper, searches of patent information about variable-gauge system are conducted and the patent maps are analyzed to seize the overall image and trend of the technology field. The results can be a reference for determining the development direction of the variable-gauge system suitable in the north-east asian railway networks.

Although the concept of Construction Management has been increased in the construction industry in Korea, there are no acceptance in electrifying the conventional line. A gauge-adjustable system can be used for the fast and safe transportation in the railways with different gauges instead of transshipment or bogie-changing. The system will be necessary to connect the trans-Korean railway with the transcontinental railway effectively. In this paper, the technical requirements for the gauge-adjustable system used for the north-east asia network were studied and the conceptual design of the system was performed. For the purpose, the specification was made and the QFD and TRIZ methods are used.

Growing qualitative and cost-based competition with the roads and air modes will be oblige the railways to make better use of their existing infrastructure than present. Development and use of new signalling and safety systems and introduction of wide-area control systems may make it possible to operate railway efficiently. Now operating lines of many urban railway are currently in progress in the Seoul, but the inadequate consideration of links between different lines could create inconvenience as the public transport. This paper is studied about the connection service design of urban-railway convinced for other metropolis railways forms and propose the base pilot plan of the railway network linking system in Seoul Metropolis.

The KNR(Korean National Railroad) is trying to set a new rail standard to back up the speed-up policy of the conventional railways. This work has passably significance since the rail standards used were introduced from Japan without the consideration on our situation. The contact analysis between wheel treads and rail heads, attended with complex calculation and the wear experiments taken long time should be accomplished for the exact investigation to establish a new rail standard. However, this paper just concentrates the structural investigation of the proposed rail standard and the dynamic analysis between trains and rail models with intent to shift the above procedure on the next step.
