  • Recent increases in the road and rail infrastructure, but the urban traffic problems such as accidents, congestion are increasing. The reason is that the high cost and lack of accessibility of railway transportation, the low quality of road services, and efficient transport links, etc.. The developments of a variety of policy and technical means are being performed to solve these problems. Among them, the Bimodal Tram which is combined low-cost of bus and high service quality of railway transportation is attracting attention. In this paper, the development status of technology and efficient utilization of operational and infrastructure elements for the operational efficiency, safety and passenger comfort of Bimodal Tram is studied.

  • Electric vehicles have reached a new level of development with introductions by Chrysler, Ford, Honda and Toyota. Today's charging technology includes conductive and inductive charging systems. There are three standardized charging levels: Level 1: charging can be done from a standard, grounded AC 120V, 3-prong outlet available in all homes; Level 2: charging is at AC 240V, 40 amp charging station with special consumer features to make it easy and convenient to plug in and charge EVs at home or at an EV charging station; Level 3: a high-powered charging "fast charge" technology currently under development that will provide a charge in less than 15 minutes. The incoming AC power is converted to DC and stored in the vehicle's batteries. In this paper, we investigated the application of urban railway DC electric power for electric car charging system.

  • Standard Gate Turn Off (GTO) Thyristor drive technology results in inhomogeneous turn-on and turn-off transients which in turn needs costly dv/dt and di/dt snubber circuits. Added to this GTO is bulky in size, needs external cooling, slower switching time etc. The development of high voltage Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) have given new device advantage in the areas where they compete with conventional GTO technology. Indian Railway has developed first IGBT based traction converter and was commissioned in November 2006. Some of the supremacy of IGBT are smaller in size, no external cooling is required, built in power supply which enhances reliability, lower switching losses which leads to higher efficiency, reduced gate drive, high frequency operation in real time etc. These advantages are highlighted along with IGBT Traction system in operation.

  • Power line communication(PLC) is a kind of communication technology, was made use of controling a frequency narrow band, but as the PLC technology developing, in the near future get to the commercial step that is broadband PLC upto 30 MHz. This paper deals with the PLC of electric railway using capacitive signal coupler. An AC arrester for catenary is used as a capacitive signal coupler, has the characteristic of capacitor. As a result of field test, a messenger wire used PLC contain much of conducted noise about overall frequency band and also signal attenuation rate increased with increasing frequency between two points. and the communication speed of PLC used messenger wire is 793kbps at a distance of 40m. Experimental results show the possibility of PLC using a messenger wire and an AC arrester for catenary at electric railway.

  • Energy saving is as important as developments of green energy and alternative energy. The need for development of high-efficiency lighting apparatus further increased. This paper compared with the size of electrical equipment and analyzed the size of electrical capacity for the railway station building. Also discussed energy saving measures that can be achieved by using high-efficacy lighting fixtures, and the percentage of the lighting load capacity of the entire building.

  • For many decades, the railway was constructed using tracks with jointed rails of relatively short lengths in accordance with rolling and handling technology. The joints cause many drawbacks in the track and lead to significant maintenance cost. So, railroad engineers became interested in eliminating joints to increase service loads and speeds by improving rolling, welding, and fastening technology, Continuous welded rail(CWR) track has many advantages over the conventional jointed-rail track. But in the case of the elimination of rail joints, it may cause the track to be suddenly buckled laterally by thermal and vehicle loads. Thermal loads are caused by an increase in the temperature of railway track. In this paper, CWR track model and CWRB program are developed for linear buckling analysis using finite element method(FEM). The finite element discretization is used with a total of 14 degrees of freedom for each rail element. The stiffness of the fastener, tie, and ballast bed are included by a set of spring elements. The investigation on the buckling modes and temperature of CWR track is presented in the paper.

  • In this paper, the trend of the market demand for the technology of railway cars and the development direction of other country or company were studied by analysing the patent map. The effort for developing the technology is intensified from the middle of 1960s and it seems to be more strengthened especially in the parts of bogie, driving motor/power, window and door. Recently the increasing rate of the number of patent application from Germany and China is noticeable. The results of this paper can be used for making the development plans of competitive technologies and benchmarking of them.

  • In this paper, a speed estimation method at coasting operation in an induction motor speed sensorless control for railway vehicle traction systems is presented. At coasting operation, there is no information obtaining rotor speed since all switches of an inverter are turned off. The inverter frequency should be synchronized with the rotor frequency for repowering at coasting condition. The proposed method injects DC current to the induction motor during a short time, then the flux angle and rotor speed needed for control can be estimated rapidly.

  • Questionnaire survey has been made for the above study. First, 65 question sheets have been distributed to railway operators and 55 sheets of them have been collected from them. SPSS 12.0 program package has been used to analyze those sheets concerning age, experience, school, background as a frequency analysis and t-test has been made to find out recognition level difference of a cheer response, depending on the operator's experience. T-verification has been made for two groups such as less than 10 years, and 10 years or more experience. Result from correlation analysis showed that there was no difference due to operators' experience.

  • Recently railroad industry pulls a new interest with stability, fixed time characteristic, low environment pollution characteristic and mass transportation characteristic. With industrial development railroad it joins in, The many research and regulation production are coming to do. Specially like this activities are coming to be advanced actively from North America and Europe. From viewpoint of railway car production company, The vehicle production that a suitable Europe standard is essentiality for find a Europe market that The whole vehicle consuming hold it does a most big specific gravity. From this study, developed finite element model for analysis technology about crashworthiness of inside GM/RT 2100 standard and analyzed crash results.
