  • This study compared KORAIL's procurement tasks with that of other companies. after analyzing the institutional and operational problems in procurement tasks especially in the respect of rolling stock and components which are KORAIL's major purchasing items, this study presented the way of purchasing cost Reduction through improving and streamlining procurement tasks.

  • In general, bridges are facilities installed for the purpose of easily passing through sections such as valleys and rivers. Railway bridges that run through downtown areas are damaged due to external factors such as earthquakes and collisions with passing vehicles, resulting in serious human casualties. This can cause serious human and properties damage, such as functional paralysis in downtown areas. Depending on the degree of damage, repair work such as partial repair or full replacement is in progress for the bridge where the collision occurred. When damage or deformation occurs due to collision, the repair method is determined according to the degree of deformation and the degree to which the load capacity of the bridge is affected by the deformation. In this study, a numerical analysis review was performed on the repair work for the local deformation caused by the collision of a vehicle on an old railway bridge installed and in operation in an urban area. To this end, a structural safety review of the bridge for local deformations caused by vehicle collisions was conducted. In this paper, a repair method for the accident bridge was presented based on the analysis results.

  • The security issue in urban transit system has been widely considered as the common matters after the fire accident at Daegu subway station. The safe urban transit system is highly demanded because of the vast number of daily passengers, and it is one of the most challenging projects. We introduced a test model for integrated security system for urban transit system and built it at a subway station to demonstrate its performance. This system consists of cameras, sensor network and central monitoring software. We described the smart camera functionality in more detail. The proposed smart camera includes the moving objects recognition module, video analytics, video encoder and server module that transmits video and audio information.

  • The real-time monitoring and controlling between the interior and the field signaling security devices is a necessity for the train safety in terms of the train operating plan. The type wiring lower the safety level of signaling security device, because too much wiring makes the maintenance more difficult and it might be have a problem of an induction field and contact. It also need high cost. The single network communication(Fieldbus) does not need that much wiring, and the maintenance will be easier. It also guarantee the high level of stability.

  • The information for operating the train should be transmitted to train, with extreme security. In our system, The information, such that the allowable velocity of the train, train existence in current area, and other data necessary for operating train, is transmitted in the form of FM signal. Received by the receiver located on train, the signal is filtered, demodulated, and analyzed for extracting the original information. The analysis of the demodulated signal is done through FFT algorithm using sliding slot. The simulation results shows the validity of the algorithm.

  • This paper proposes the connection without cables among display devices in a train using piconet of the Bluetooth. Nowadays, each train has a number of the display devices that are connected with many cables to lead the passengers, so it has the waste of resource and factor of fault. This paper proposes the improvement schemes of those problems in a train using piconet of the bluetooth with low cost, low power, and high security.

A Study on the Countermeasure of Traffic Terror (대중교통테러의 대응방안)

  • Traffic terror is one of the terror types subject on transportation means. However, unlike the aircraft or ship, there is no case of negotiating with passengers as hostage but to unconditionally attack that the human casualty would be much greater. In act, the terror on subway or bus would have much bigger damage than the terror on aircraft or ship. Because of such fact, there is a need for full preparation thereto, however, there is no preparation of advance preventive measure, particularly, when comparing to the cases involving aircraft. In addition, the passengers who use railway and others in the position of citizens do not have any defense mechanism against any terror activity to make the problem even more serious. Therefore, in order to prevent traffic terror, the first thing is to implement the identity confirmation of passengers, followed by the through search of cargos of the passengers, supplement the capability against the terror by the security team members, strengthen the responsive capability of citizens, thorough check on facilities, expansion of social security network and others. All terrors are within the reach of our neighborhood at the time when we neglect it, and the most secured and safe way to prevent the terror is to check and prepare at all times beginning from our familiar facilities or means.

  • The following study, as the importance of military role in a national disaster is emerging as a part of comprehensive security, there has been a number of elements of social disaster-related support in support of each type of national disaster aimed to improve the military's role towards comprehensive security but there has been no regular study of this topic. The point of this study is to analyze various aspects and hardships during the mission and improve the effectiveness of future support missions by observing and interviewing the military personnel which substituted the role of train drivers in the Seoul Metro in 2016, when the Korean Railroad Corporation [KORAIL] Workers Union was on strike [72 days] which is the longest period of a national disaster requiring military assistance.

  • Depending on the operating characteristics, track circuit is installed for the purpose of control directly or indirectly of the signal device, point switch machine and other security device. These are mainly used for train detection, transmission of information, broken train detection and transmission of return current. Especially, the return current is related to signal system, power system and catenary line, and track circuit systems. It is one of the most important component shall be dealt for the safety of track side staff and for the protection of railway-related electrical system according to electrification. Therefore, an accurate analysis of the return current is needed to prevent the return current unbalance and the system induced disorder and failure due to an over current condition. Also, if the malfunction occurred by the return current harmonics, it can cause problems including train operation interruption. In this paper, we presented measurement and analysis method at return current and it's harmonics by train operation. By the test criteria, we evaluated for safety. Hereafter, it is expected to contribute to the field associated with it.
