  • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is test method which finds the mechanical or natural or artificial defects of the interior or exterior of those without destructing materials and welded products. NDT is a means to assess the perfection of a component or system perfection. NOT images defects using scattered light, sound, electric current, magnetic fields and X-ray. Each NDT method has merits and demerits in the detecting ability of defects according to evaluated subjects. Defects can affect the serviceability of the material or structure, so NDT is important in guaranteeing safe operation as well as in quality control. In this review, we considered the methods of NDT applied to current railway vehicle manufacturing.

  • In an electric railway feeding system, transient over-voltage often appears due to the feeder's direct lightning and induced lightning, while switching over-voltage also frequently occurs during operation of electric feeding in substation facilities. Such over-voltage is several times larger than the regular power, and accordingly leads to the dieletric breakdown of eletric power products such as invasion transformers and circuit breakers. Arresters are installed to protect these machines, while arrester counters are installed to observe the arrester's activation. This thesis aims to explore the status of an arrester counter that is being activated several thousand times, determine whether the arrester has actually been activated in relation to the counter, and investigate the over-heatedness and risks of the arrester.

  • In this paper, it is proposed that an existing utilizing methods of FMEA, one of the potential failure cause analysis of the systems and products, is reviewed and more efficient advanced application scheme and improvement idea is suggested. In present, in company with Products liability laws which are being conducted, this proposed methods are intended to be applied at systems which require high-reliability and safety.

  • Recently, Building Information Modeling(BIM) has become a hot topic in the construction industry such as quantity calculation, interference check, process management, and construction cost management. It is also trying to convert the existing 2D design to 3D design and introduce the BIM in various fields, thus, many new deliverable are being presented but there are many issues due to the lack of standard guides on the preparation and delivery criteria for such new deliverable and how to utilize performance data. Therefore, In order to develop the electronic delivery process, we analyzed the process related to the delivery of BIM digital models presented in domestic and international BIM guidelines and the delivery of products from the Korea National Railway. The analysis focused on the list of achievements, delivery process, quality review standards, and the utilization code system of the Korea National Railway through BIM guidelines and the National Railroad Service's business procedures. Based on these analysis results, it presents a plan to construct an functional module of electronic delivery.

  • This paper presents the methods to acquire the Safety Certificate from Independent Safety Assessment based on the IEC standard62279 which is commonly applied to railway system for Automatic Train Control(ATC) system in accordance with Urban Maglev project. This also shows approach methods and relative activities for project life- cycle to accomplish and ensure the system requirements of ATC system, RAMS and S/W quality activities. Furthermore, the key tasks conducted with ISA are noted in detail. These kind of activities for software quality of ATC system to obtain S afety Certificate could be a CASE model to improve the quality of domestic railway system and products, and also contribute to the growth of railway business and toward the achievement of overseas' railway signaling markets.

  • This paper's purpose is to support the strategies of the Small and Medium Railroad industries requiring certifications and products inspections. This study's objects are Small and Medium Railroad enterprises pursuing the making products, development and serving services. Research's questions consist of 14 principal questions and some incidental questions which are made for finding out what Small and Medium Railroad enterprises need. This research's result will be used for KRRI Railroad Testing & Certification Center's study. This study will include market research, deciding strategies and setting a range of supporting level for Small and Medium Railroad enterprises who request a test and certification service. After due consideration based on surveys, this paper makes clear what enterprises need actually, also indicates the strategic ways to support by technology transfer and test assistance for Small and Medium Railroad enterprises.

  • This research provides a scheme for Highly Accelerated Stress Test that is necessary to demonstrate reliability prediction of Korean Rapid Transit Railway Train Control System sub-equipment, which is calculated by a relevant standard for failure rate prediction of electronic products. Although determining failure information generated in the process of trial running by statistic analysis is widely accepted as a measure of confirmation for reliability prediction, this research suggests the modeling for System Life Test determined by accelerating stress factors as a measure of confirmation for reliability prediction of sub-equipment unit that is generated ahead of a trial running in System Life Cycle. Consequently, the research demonstrates sub-equipment unit reliability test, which is based on the model derived from Accelerated Stress Test, according to accuracy level and the number of samples, and conducts an official experiment by making out a reliability test procedure sheet based on test time as well.

  • when electric traction system used DC 1500V runs on decline of rail road track and slows down, Dc voltage goes beyond regular voltage. In this case extra power is forcibly wasted by resister because rectifier of substation and electric train including power converter and so on are out of order. This paper described a DC electric railway system, which can generate the excessive DC power form DC bus line to AC source in substation for traction system. The proposed regeneration inverter system for DC traction can be used as both an inverter and an active power filter(APF). As a regeneration inverter mode, it can recycle regenerative energy caused by decelerating tractions and as an active power filter mode, it can compensate for harmonic distortion produced by the rectifier substation. In addition, electric traction system products harmonic current and voltage distortion and reactive power because power converter is used so regeneration inverter normally runs such as active power filter(APF) for improving power quality. From the viewpoint of both power capacity and switching losses, the system is designed on the basis of three phase PWM inverters and composed of parallel inverters, output transformers, and an LCL filter.

A Study on the Revitalization of Railway Station Water Tower (철도역사 급수탑 주변 활성화에 관한 연구)

  • The railroad that represents modern industry began appearing in 1899. However, after the steam locomotive that provided water stopped the service, the water towers within the railroad station were useless. Suggestions presented in this study for activating the environment around the water towers that are designated as the cultural properties results are as followed: 1) The place where people can experience the vestiges of Korean War and the region that different novels accommodated. 2) A plaza 3) A facility for exhibition of industry inheritance and local products 4) A local landmark 5) Reproduction of the historical steam locomotive and water tower Local residents should participate in the activation process. And the designer should consider the environmental context. In addition, the activation of water towers should be designed under an urban plan.

  • The korea Electric Railway feeder voltage is DC 1500V and AC 250000V. The auxiliary power supply of the vehicle auxiliary power units for domestic electrical feed has been developed with domestic technology hyeonchae mounted station, and domestic uses, such as voltage, have been exported to other countries. However, do not use at domestic that can be used for DC 3000V voltage auxiliary power unit does not develop, vehicle exports global. This has already been replaced by imported products from other nations is a real situation. Thus, our auxiliary power unit for the DC 3000V was developed, it will be exported to Ukraine. In this paper, We introduced circuit and structure of developed auxiliary power supply unit, and verified the performance with output characteristic of the auxiliary power unit.
